Tayo Ayinde

Tayo Akinmade Ayinde (born 24 August 1964) is a Nigerian accountant and administrator. He was appointed in 2019 as the chief of staff to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Early Life and Background Tayo Akinmade Ayinde, popularly nicknamed "Buffalo", was born on 24 August 1964 at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, into a family of entrepreneurial businesspersons. A man of stature and calm demeanor, Ayinde earned his nickname due to his solid presence and protective aura—traits that became synonymous with his work in security and governance. With a formidable background in intelligence services and close affiliation with Nigeria’s political elite, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ayinde has steadily built a legacy grounded in loyalty, governance, grassroots mobilization, and philanthropy. His blend of administrative acumen and compassion for the less privileged has positioned him as apolitical influence to be reckoned with

Education

•Primary and Secondary Education: Attended St. Peters’ Anglican Primary School in Alausa and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He later completed his West African School Certificate at Ogudu Grammar School, Ojota, Lagos •Tertiary Qualifications: Earned an OND in Banking and Finance and an HND in Accountancy from Federal Polytechnic, Anambra •Advanced Academic Training: Holds an MBA in Financial Management from Lagos State University. He enhanced his strategic acumen through short courses at top global institutions: University of Toronto (Strategic Thinking), University of Cambridge Judge Business School (Business Model Innovation), and Harvard Business School (Strategic Financial Analysis for Business Evaluation) •Professional Training: Completed rigorous training in VIP protection and anti-terrorism in the UK and Israel. He is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management

Ayinde began his career in 1993 as an Account Officer at TELL Magazine, before joining the State Security Service (SSS) in the same year. He rose to become Head of the Accounts Department at the SSS Shangisha office (1993–1999) and served as Chief Security Detail to then-Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with whom he forged a strong personal and political relationship. Under Tinubu’s mentorship, Ayinde imbibed critical principles of governance, political structure building, and people-focused philanthropy—skills he has since applied in both politics and leadership. Earning a reputation for integrity and unwavering loyalty, until he retired meritoriously from the SSS in 2009, transitioning into full-time politics with the benefit of rare insights into government systems, loyalty dynamics, and political security.

Ayinde got his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Banking and later the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy from Federal Polytechnic, Anambra. He was an Account Officer at TELL Magazine in 1993. He joined the State Security Service (SSS) where he was Head of the Accounts Department till he retired in 2009. In 2019, he was appointed Chief of Staff by Governor Babajide Sanwoolu.

Transition to Politics and Public Service

•In 2009, Ayinde fully entered politics, driven by his passion for inclusive development and humanitarian values •He served as Director-General of Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Independent Campaign Group (ICG) in both the 2019 and 2023 gubernatorial elections, becoming a key strategist and mobilizer •Following the successful 2019 campaign, he was appointed Chief of Staff to Governor Sanwo-Olu on June 6, 2019—one of the first appointments confirming his central role in the administration •As Chief of Staff, Ayinde has played a pivotal role in advancing the "Greater Lagos Agenda", overseeing coordination of strategic policies, improving internal revenue systems, and acting as a dependable mediator between the governor’s office and key stakeholders
