Draft and entry to North Melbourne
North Melbourne selected Tess Craven with pick 13 in the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft.[7] She was recruited from Drysdale and the Geelong U18 Falcons program.[1] The club described her as a versatile player capable of impacting across all three lines.[1] Craven was assigned jumper number 5 upon joining North Melbourne.[1] She made her AFLW debut in Round 1 of the 2022 season (S6) against Geelong at Arden Street Oval.[8]Early seasons (2022–2023)
Tess Craven debuted in the shortened 2022 AFL Women's Season 6, playing one game and recording three disposals. [9] She established a more consistent role in Season 7, appearing in 13 matches, kicking one goal, and averaging 6.2 kicks and 7.4 disposals per game. [9] In 2023, Craven continued as a regular rotation player for North Melbourne, featuring in 12 games and scoring two goals while averaging 6.0 kicks and 7.8 disposals per match. [9] Her output remained modest across these early seasons, with limited overall impact reflected in her disposal averages and goal tally. [9] By the end of 2023, Craven had accumulated 26 games and three goals in her AFLW career to that point, operating primarily as an under-the-radar contributor in a developing role across the wings and other lines for the Kangaroos. [10][9]Premiership seasons (2024–2025)
Tess Craven produced her strongest form to date during North Melbourne's back-to-back premiership seasons in 2024 and 2025. In 2024, she featured in all 14 matches, averaging 8.5 kicks and 11.5 disposals per game while scoring 3 goals. [11] This campaign was described as her best season as a Kangaroo. [1] Her defining moment came in the 2024 AFLW Grand Final against the Brisbane Lions, where she kicked the opening goal of the match via a set shot after taking a mark, helping North Melbourne secure a decisive victory and the club's first AFLW premiership. [12] She delivered a career-best performance in the decider, highlighted by courageous contested marks and important contributions. [11] Craven sustained her elevated output in 2025, averaging 10.5 kicks and 14.9 disposals per game across 15 matches while scoring 6 goals. [11] As a result of North Melbourne's consecutive premiership triumph, she became a back-to-back premiership player. [1] Following the 2025 season, her career totals stood at 55 games and 12 goals.
