Thomas Flach (born 3 June 1956) is a German sailor and Olympic champion, born in Potsdam. He competed in the Soling class together with Jochen Schümann and Bernd Jäkel at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, where they won the gold medal.[1][2] The same crew participated at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where they also received a gold medal.[3]

Born in Potsdam, he formed a highly successful long-term crew with helm Jochen Schümann and crew member Bernd Jäkel, achieving dominance in international Soling competition during the late 1980s and 1990s. Flach's Olympic career spanned three Games, beginning with gold at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, followed by a fourth-place finish at Barcelona in 1992, and concluding with another gold medal at Atlanta in 1996. Outside the Olympics, he earned multiple East German national titles in the Soling class, as well as European and world championship medals, including world gold in 1992. In later years, Flach continued competing successfully in the 20 m² Rennschiff class, securing several German national and open titles.
