Thomas Stanley Holland was born in Kingston upon Thames, south-west London, to photographer Nicola (née Frost) and comedian-author Dominic Holland.

Holland was diagnosed with dyslexia, leading his parents to send him and his brothers to a private school to ensure he received the necessary attention.

Holland began dancing at a hip hop class at Nifty Feet Dance School in Wimbledon, where he was spotted by choreographer Lynne Page.

Holland performed with his school group at the Richmond Dance Festival, where he was noticed by Lynne Page, leading to an audition for Billy Elliot the Musical.

Holland secured a supporting part in Billy Elliot the Musical at London's Victoria Palace Theatre and was later promoted to the title role.
