Vanish into You

"Vanish into You" was written by Lady Gaga, Andrew Watt, Henry Walter, and Michael Polansky. Paper magazine has called the song "a discovery of love".^[6] Riff magazine said the song sees Gaga "[channel] Blondie with a four-on-the-floor rhythm that's rooted in funk. The track explores merging identity with a partner's to insulate from emotions".^[7] Variety called the track a "David Bowie-referencing"^[8] song that "builds towards its chorus with the same tension" as "Bad Romance" (2009).^[9] Pitchfork has said "Vanish into You" has "pining yelps".^[10] Clash magazine said the song "drops the tempo a little" and has "disco-fringed synths recalling ABBA's imperial phase; there's a slight retro touch at times here, too".^[11] Vulture called it "an ABBA song through and through" with "happy-sad Swedish chords and melodies".^[12]

Some fans theorized that the song was inspired by Gaga's late collaborator Tony Bennett, highlighting lyrics which were reminiscent of some of Bennett's most popular songs.^[13]

Stephen Daw of Billboard wrote, "Perhaps the most vocally impressive song on Mayhem is 'Vanish into You,' Gaga's glam-rock offering of adoration. Inspired by icons like David Bowie, 'Vanish' brings a glitzy finish to the frayed edges of Mayhem, complete with chunky guitars and four-on-the-floor rhythms that make you want to get up and dance. But its the harmonies Gaga creates with herself throughout the song's heart-puncturing chorus that stand out most, as she utilizes every inch of her vocal range to tell her lover just how in love she truly is."^[2] Rolling Stone said, "a career high can be found in the multi-facetted dance funk avant-garde drama" of the song.^[14] Chris Hedden of Screen Rant wrote, "The mood of the song is at once joyful but also has this wistful feeling that the uplift is slowly leaving, like acknowledging summer is going away and the transition to fall is on the way. Like having to keep on a smiling face while feeling that a pressure or growing worry is coming and that it's hard to keep that goodness going. But 'Vanish Into You' is a good one indeed."^[15] Adam White of The Independent felt the track is "produced a little haphazardly – 'raw' doesn’t need to mean vaguely unpleasant."^[16]

Reception of the song among general listeners was also largely positive; fans voted 'Vanish into You' as their favorite song from Mayhem in a poll conducted by Billboard.^[17]

Gaga's first live performance of "Vanish into You" was during her 2025 promotional concerts for Mayhem, which included a headlining set at Coachella 2025. She walked through her audience during the track, stopping to hold hands and singing into their faces.^[18] On May 13, 2025, Gaga performed "Vanish into You" during a five-song set at the YouTube Brandcast event, held at the Geffen Hall in New York City. The performance featured cinematic staging and opened the showcase.^[19] Similar to the promotional concerts, the song featured in the setlist of her subsequent Mayhem Ball tour as the closer for the penultimate act.^[20]
