The ZEvent is a francophone charity project created by Adrien Nougaret and Alexandre Dachary (respectively known under the pseudonyms ZeratoR and Dach) whose goal is to bring together French streamers to collect donations that will support a charity. It is hosted on the Twitch streaming platform.

The first edition took place in 2016 under the name Project Avengers. The event is in the benefit, successively, of Save the Children, the French Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières, the Pasteur Institute, Amnesty International, and Action Against Hunger.

The format evolved beginning with the 2022 edition, which supported four organizations dedicated to environmental protection: Sea Shepherd France, the League for the Protection of Birds, WWF France, and The SeaCleaners. After a pause in 2023, the 2024 edition shifted its focus to five associations fighting against poverty—Secours populaire français, Cop1 - Solidarités Étudiantes, Les Bureaux du Cœur, Solidarité Paysans, and Chapitre 2. It was marked by a sharp increase in participation, most of it online. In 2025, the event broadened its scope once again, benefiting eight associations working to support patients and their caregivers: the French Association of Caregivers, Helebor, the National League Against Cancer, Nightline, Le Rire Médecin, Sourire à la Vie, L’Envol, and Sparadrap.

ZEvent holds the world record for the most money ever raised by a charity event on Twitch. During the 2025 stream, ZEvent raised €16 million (almost $19 million), a world record on Twitch.[1] In total, between 2016 and 2025, these events raised more than €57.5 million.

The ZEvent is an annual charity marathon organized since 2016 and taking place over three days. It brings together French-speaking streamers with the aim of collecting donations for a charity.[2][3]

The event physically takes place in the Hérault department, more precisely at the Sud de France Arena in Montpellier, and is broadcast on the streaming site Twitch. All the creators present broadcast a video stream in succession, the content of which is mostly dedicated to video games, but also to discussions or physical events such as challenges, contests, quizzes or karaoke.[2][4][3]

In order to encourage donations, the streamers present each define "donation goals", i.e. a list of donation objectives. For each goal they reach, they commit to a specific action, usually requested by their audience or fun to watch.[3][5] In addition to the donations made, merchandise (mostly t-shirts) is sold to benefit the chosen charity.[6]

Avengers Project (2016)

[edit]

The French branch of the "Avengers Project" took place from March 4 to 6, 2016, on the call of Bachir Boumaaza. Its charitable program "Gaming for Good" aims to collect donations for the NGO Save the Children during the drought in Ethiopia.

ZeratoR brought together 16 streamers and friends at his home for 34 hours of live, raising €170,770.[12][13]

ZEvent 2017

[edit]

The ZEvent took place from September 8 to 10, 2017, to collect donations for the French Red Cross during Hurricane Irma in the West Indies.

This time, 30 streamers meet in a garage set up for the occasion. The event raised a total of €451,851.[14][15]

He was congratulated by the President of the French Republic, then Emmanuel Macron, on Twitter.[16]

ZEvent 2018

[edit]

The ZEvent took place from November 9 to 11, 2018,[17] to collect donations for the Médecins Sans Frontières association.[18]

In total, 37 streamers participate in this charity event organized in a room made available by the Occitania region. In 53 hours, the event brings in a total of €1,094,731.[19] The sum raised was essentially used to reconstruct fully a destroyed hospital in Yemen.[20]

During this edition, the event is broadcast live on NRJ radio[21]

ZEvent 2019

[edit]

Following the 2018 edition, organizers received over 400 requests from non-governmental organizations.[22] After examining the latter, the Pasteur Institute was chosen. The 2019 edition of the ZEvent took place from September 20 to 22, 2019, in Montpellier.[23] In total, 55 Francophone streamers were gathered in a room made available by the Metropole of Montpellier for a total event duration of 54 hours.[23][24][25] Squeezie, Gotaga, Antoine Daniel and Joueur du Grenier participated in the event.

On the second day, Riot Games made a donation of €20,000,[26] Webedia €25,000, then the American streamer Ninja €26,000.[27][28] A total of €3,510,682 were raised by the end of the event,[22][29] breaking the record for the largest amount of money collected at a charity event on the live streaming platform Twitch.[30] On his Twitter account, the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron congratulated the initiative.[22][29]

Some Internet users regret, among other things, the low number of women within the ZEvent.[30]'[31] The Madmoizelle website, in its coverage of the event, highlights a "positive trend," noting that the 2019 edition features slightly more women compared to previous ones.[32]

ZEvent 2020

[edit]

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization of a 2020 edition was initially uncertain. Indeed, ZeratoR said on April 29, 2020, live, at the time in full containment in France, that it may not be possible given the atmosphere of the time. On August 31, 2020, during a live performance where he returned to the Z LAN 2020, a few weeks before the event's regular run (usually between September and November), he announced that "until the 2020 edition is announced, there will be none". Despite this, on October 4, 2020, the event was announced to be held from 16 to 18 October 2020 in Montpellier, the beneficiary of which will be Amnesty International France.

In order to limit the risk of COVID-19 propagation, ZeratoR announced at the same time a strict protocol. The 85 participants (including streamers and team members) had to pass a PCR test, and those who would be tested positive could not participate. The organizers therefore invited all participants to isolate themselves at home until October 16. The event took place for the first time in a hotel, that participants were not able to leave during the event.

The store sold over 120,000 T-shirts,[33] and more than 132,000 donators of 1 euro registered during the event. On the Twitter account of the Presidency of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron congratulated the initiative, as for the previous editions. The event, marked in particular by the presence of Samuel Etienne [fr] on October 17, raised €5,724,377 in 55 hours.[34]'[35]'[36]

ZEvent 2021

[edit]

Announced on 14 October 2021, the 2021 edition was held from 29 to 31 October 2021, to the benefit of Action contre la faim.[37][38][39][40]

A concert in support of the humanitarian organization, featuring performances by the musician PV Nova [fr] and the streamer LittleBigWhale [fr], the group L.E.J, as well as the rapper Fianso, was played on October 28, in La Grande-Motte,[41][42] in front of an audience of nearly 400 people. Its online broadcast was followed by more than 100 000 spectators.[43]

An hour after the beginning of the event, almost €500,000 had already been collected,[44] and the collected funds were raised to €2,000,000 in 24 hours.[41] The largest amount of donations was given during the last hours of the event: on 31 October 2021, at noon, €3,000,000 had been raised — then €4,500,000 at 8:00pm, and up to €9,500,000 right before midnight, including goodies sales.[41][45]

In total, more than 500,000 donations were made during the caritative marathon, and 172,000 T-shirts were sold, raising nearly €2,700,000.[41][46][47] ZEvent 2021 collected in total more than €10,000,000 (US$11,600,000) in favour of Action contre la faim. ZeratoR's end stream was followed by 720,000 people simultaneously, and Inoxtag's stream peaked at 453,000 viewers when the young streamer invited the Mexican actress Andrea Pedrero, making it a record in France, and being the 3rd most watched stream ever.[46] Inoxtag, however, sparks controversy for making remarks deemed misogynistic during his live performance while engaging in conversation with an actress who is not fluent in French.[48]'[49] Simultaneously, Ultia [fr] publicly condemned the streamer, and as a result, she faced a surge of harassment in the hours following her statement.[50]'[51]'[52] Specialized media outlets such as Madmoizelle and Gamekult subsequently raised questions about the event organizers' response to the controversy, criticizing it as both sluggish and insufficient. They also denounced certain recurring activities within the ZEvent that they perceive as sexist.[53]'[54]

ZEvent 2022

[edit]

The 2022 edition was publicly announced on July 4, 2022, and will take place from 9 to 11 September 2022, initially dedicated to the GoodPlanet Foundation.[55]

As in the previous edition, a concert is planned to be held the day before the launch of the event. It will include performances by PV Nova, the streamer LittleBigWhale, French Fuse, Berywam, Bigflo & Oli and Soprano at the Zenith of Montpellier.[56]

Several criticisms emerged on social networks when the event was announced. They mainly target the absence of some streamers who participated in the previous editions,[57] as well as the choice of the GoodPlanet Foundation as beneficiary association, this one facing many accusations of greenwashing especially around its financing.[58]

Five days after the announcement, negative reactions online prompted the ZEvent to cancel its partnership with the GoodPlanet Foundation.[59] ZeratoR then announced that the money raised during the event would be divided equally among five associations, chosen by public vote from a shortlist of 22 organizations. The five associations finally chosen as beneficiaries are Sea Shepherd France, Ligue pour la protection des oiseaux, WWF France, Time for the Planet [fr] and The SeaCleaners [fr].

During the event, some participants such as Antoine Daniel and Angle Droit virulently expressed their anger towards the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron.[60] The latter having shared a video message on Twitter expressing support for the ZEvent and announcing upcoming esports events in France, faced accusations of political recuperation. Critics pointed out the perceived contradiction, highlighting the government's alleged inaction in addressing global warming, which, according to them, necessitates organizing charity events like the ZEvent to address pressing issues.[61]'[62]

This edition is notable for the introduction of a platform similar to Place, enabling internet users to make donations and contribute to filling a virtual canvas,[63] as well as, on September 10, by the presence of the artist Worakls[64] and Alain Chabat,[65]'[66] the latter co-hosting a live quiz which brought together 200,000 simultaneous spectators.[63]

Nearly 350,000 viewers simultaneously tuned in to witness the final hours of the 2022 edition, resulting in a total donation amount of 10,182,126 euros for the beneficiary associations.[63]

ZEvent 2024

[edit]

After a break the previous year, the 2024 edition was publicly announced on August 4, 2024. The new edition, with a new format, will take place from September 6 to 8, 2024, benefiting associations such as Secours Populaire Français, Cop1 - Solidarités Étudiantes [fr], Les Bureaux du Cœur, Solidarité Paysans [fr], and Chapitre 2.[67]'[68]

The new format consists of 36 streamers on-site and 100 others selected to participate remotely, similar to the organization during the 2020 edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[67]

Overview

Founding and Organizers

ZEvent was founded on March 4, 2016, by prominent French Twitch streamers Adrien "ZeratoR" Nougaret and Alexandre "Dach" Dachary, in response to urgent humanitarian needs, particularly the drought affecting . The initiative emerged as part of the broader "Avengers Project," a global charity effort originally launched by streamer Bachir Boumaaza (known as Athene), which aimed to rally gaming communities for aid through livestreaming. The initial concept was envisioned as a small-scale gathering, bringing together 16 streamers and friends at ZeratoR's home in Montpellier for a 34-hour continuous livestream focused on gaming marathons and challenges to support humanitarian causes. This event, held from March 4 to 6, 2016, served as a pilot under the name "Projet Avengers," demonstrating the potential of uniting the French streaming community for charitable purposes. By , the project evolved into the branded ZEvent, transitioning from a one-off collaboration to an annual organized event with a more structured format, while retaining its core mission of leveraging gaming content for . Adrien "ZeratoR" Nougaret, born in 1990, has a background in gaming content creation, having started as a and around 2010, specializing in video game commentary, , and community engagement within the French Twitch scene. He played a key role in the front-facing aspects of ZEvent's founding, including hosting and promoting the streams to build audience participation. Alexandre "Dach" Dachary, active in the gaming industry since 2011, began his career at the esports organization Eclypsia before joining ZeratoR in 2015 for collaborative projects; his expertise lies in event coordination, handling logistics, communications, and behind-the-scenes operations that were essential to launching and scaling ZEvent.

Event Format

ZEvent is typically structured as an annual three-day charity livestreaming marathon, held over an extended weekend in September or October and broadcast exclusively on Twitch to engage a global audience of . Since its inception, the event has emphasized , where dozens of participating streamers broadcast from dedicated Twitch channels, allowing for diverse content delivery while centralizing . This format, organized by founders Adrien "ZeratoR" Nougaret and Alexandre "Dach" Dachary, fosters a collaborative environment that amplifies viewer interaction and donation incentives across the event. The primary venue for ZEvent has been the in , , since 2018, except for the 2020 edition which was held in a hotel in Montpellier due to the , providing a large-scale physical space for on-site streamer participation and live audience elements. Adaptations to the format have occurred in response to external circumstances, such as partial remote participation during the 2020 edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with some participating in person under strict health protocols, and a hybrid model in 2024 combining on-site and remote streamers to expand involvement. Core mechanics revolve around donation-driven engagement, with streamers setting specific fundraising thresholds that, once met, unlock challenges, performances, or special content to motivate further contributions from viewers. Broadcast elements enhance through features like , contests, and real-time chat interactions, enabling audience participation that directly supports the . Additional revenue streams complement direct donations, including sales of such as t-shirts, which serve as for supporters. This multifaceted structure ensures the event's scalability and , distinguishing it as a premier Twitch-based charity initiative.

The ZEvent began as a modest charity initiative known as the Avengers Project, held from March 4 to 6, 2016, at the home of founder Adrien "ZeratoR" Nougaret in , where a small group of streamers participated in gaming sessions to raise funds for . This pilot edition marked the event's origins as an informal gathering, collecting €170,770 in donations through livestreams on Twitch. The following year, the event formalized under the name ZEvent and took place from September 8 to 10, 2017, in a garage setup, featuring about 30 popular French streamers who streamed non-stop to support the in the wake of . This edition raised €451,851, drawing significant attention and earning public recognition from Emmanuel Macron via a tweet praising the community's solidarity efforts. The garage venue reflected the event's grassroots scale, with participants engaging in challenges and auctions to boost donations amid the . By 2018, ZEvent had grown noticeably, occurring from November 9 to 11 in a room provided by the Occitanie region in Montpellier, accommodating 37 streamers in a more professional setting while continuing to focus on gaming marathons and interactive fundraising. The event supported Médecins Sans Frontières and achieved a milestone by surpassing €1 million in donations, totaling €1,094,731, which highlighted its rising prominence. This edition also introduced broader media coverage, including live radio broadcasts on NRJ, enhancing its reach beyond online platforms. Recent Developments (2024–2025)

Following the record-breaking 2022 edition, ZEvent organizers announced a one-year hiatus in 2023 to allow time for reflection and strategic planning amid the event's growing scale, increased visibility, and associated pressures, including challenges in selecting beneficiary associations and instances of against participants. Founder Adrien "ZeratoR" Nougaret shared this decision during a live stream, emphasizing the need to develop a refreshed format for future iterations, with a return anticipated in 2024. The event resumed in 2024 from September 5 to 8, adopting a hybrid format that combined on-site and remote participation to accommodate a broader group of streamers while managing logistical demands. This edition featured over 130 participants and raised more than €10 million to support organizations combating poverty, such as the Secours populaire français. ZEvent returned in full force for its 2025 edition, held from September 4 to 7 at the in , marking a complete shift back to an in-person gathering with enhanced production elements to support an expanded roster of creators. Over 325 French streamers participated, streaming live from the venue and contributing to a peak concurrent viewership of 784,599, the second-highest in the event's history. The marathon raised a record €16.1 million—equivalent to approximately $18.7 million—for patient support associations, including the National League Against Cancer, surpassing 's previous benchmark of $12 million from a charity livestream on and establishing ZEvent as the most successful streamer-led charity drive on any platform. This achievement brought the cumulative funds raised across all editions since 2016 to over €57 million, underscoring the event's sustained growth and global impact in the streaming charity space.
