Adonis K. Alexander (born November 7, 1996) is an American professional football cornerback for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies and was selected by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL supplemental draft.

Alexander attended Independence High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He then attended Virginia Tech, and was ruled academically ineligible for his final year, preventing him from entering the 2018 NFL draft.[1] However, he entered in to the 2018 NFL supplemental draft.

Professional career

Washington Redskins

Alexander was selected by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round of the 2018 supplemental draft.[2]

Alexander was waived by Washington on August 31, 2019, but was re-signed to the practice squad the following day.[3][4] He was released on October 1.[5]

Los Angeles Rams

On November 14, 2019, Alexander was signed to the Los Angeles Rams' practice squad.[6] He signed a reserve/future contract with the Rams on December 31.

Alexander was waived on September 4, 2020.[7]

San Francisco 49ers

On January 4, 2021, Alexander signed a reserve/future contract with the San Francisco 49ers.[8] Alexander was waived San Francisco on May 4.[9]

New Orleans Saints

On August 4, 2021, Alexander signed with the New Orleans Saints.[10] He was waived/injured and placed on injured reserve on August 18.[11] Alexander was waived New Orleans on August 21.

New Orleans Breakers

Alexander was selected in the 8th round of the 2022 USFL draft by the New Orleans Breakers.[12] He was transferred to the inactive roster on April 22, 2022.[13] He was transferred to the active roster on April 30.[14]

Alexander re-signed with the Breakers on October 3, 2023.[15] The Breakers folded when the XFL and USFL merged to create the United Football League (UFL).[16]

Michigan Panthers

On January 5, 2024, Alexander was selected by the Michigan Panthers during the 2024 UFL dispersal draft.[17] He re-signed with the team on August 19, 2024.[18]

BC Lions

High school career

Adonis Alexander was born on November 7, 1996, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Alexander attended Independence High School in Charlotte, where he played football as a safety under head coach Joe Evans. Over his high school career, he recorded 183 total tackles, including 115 solo tackles, and six interceptions while contributing one caused fumble on defense. As a recruit in the class of 2015, he was rated as the No. 48 player in North Carolina and the No. 84 safety nationally by ESPN Recruiting Nation. In his recruitment, Alexander received scholarship offers from and Wake Forest before committing to the Hokies on July 12, 2014, as a three-star prospect. This commitment marked him as the eighth member of 's 2015 recruiting class.

College career

Alexander enrolled at in 2015 and played for the Hokies football team from 2015 to 2017. During his freshman season in 2015, Alexander appeared in 12 games, recording 55 tackles (37 solo), 4 interceptions, and 6 passes defended, leading the ACC with his interception total. In 2016 as a , he played in 13 games and tallied 44 tackles (31 solo), 2 interceptions, 7 passes defended, and recovered 1 fumble. Washington Redskins
