Early life and education
Upbringing in Malappuram
Aneesh Gopal was born in Cheekkode, a small village in the Malappuram district of Kerala, India.[4] He grew up in this rural Kerala community.[2] As part of a local Kerala family, Gopal's family relies on him for support.[2] No publicly detailed information is available on his parents or siblings. His childhood in the rural setting of Cheekkode provided early exposure to arts and creativity, particularly through participation in local performances that ignited his passion for film.[4] Gopal later relocated to Kochi to seek professional opportunities in the film industry.[2] This move from rural roots to city life marked a pivotal shift, enabling him to channel his early creative interests into tangible career paths.[2]Academic background
Aneesh Gopal received his higher education in Kerala.[2] During his school and college years, he actively participated in plays, fostering an early engagement with creative expression that influenced his later work in visual and performing arts.[2] Specific details on his degree remain undisclosed in public records.[5]Graphic design career
Early professional roles
Aneesh Gopal commenced his professional career as a graphic designer at Iboons Technologies in Kerala, where he gained initial experience in the field following his studies at Calicut University.[5] In this early role, Gopal handled responsibilities centered on digital design tasks.[5][6] He advanced his skills through proficiency in design software, enabling him to create effective visuals for various projects and honing techniques essential for poster and promotional work.[2][7] Throughout this phase, Gopal balanced his design employment with a growing peripheral interest in the film industry, occasionally experimenting with film-related graphics during his downtime.[7]Founding and growth of Yellowtooths Designs
Aneesh Gopal founded Yellowtooths Designs in Kochi in the early 2010s, serving as its creative head and establishing it as a specialized studio for film poster and publicity design in the Malayalam industry.[2][8] The studio's debut project was the poster for the 2013 film Rebecca Uthup Kizhakkemala, directed by Sunder Das and starring Ann Augustine, marking Gopal's transition from individual freelance work to leading a dedicated design entity focused on Mollywood promotions.[8] Initially operating without a fixed office and using film sets as workspaces, Yellowtooths quickly gained traction by collaborating with production houses like Marikar Films starting in 2013.[2][8] Under Gopal's leadership, Yellowtooths grew into one of Kerala's premier film poster design companies, handling publicity materials for a range of Malayalam films and earning recognition for innovative visuals.[8][9] A notable early achievement was the first-look poster for Koothara (2013), featuring Mohanlal, which received a nomination for the International Movie Poster Awards in the best poster category.[8] The studio's portfolio expanded to include designs for films such as Thank You, Anchu Sundarikal, and Iyobinte Pusthakam, often working with prominent directors like Amal Neerad.[8] To prioritize the studio's development during the 2010s, Gopal temporarily paused his acting pursuits, focusing instead on building a stable creative business to support his family.[2] By 2021, Yellowtooths had evolved into a full-fledged company with a team of six designers and a dedicated office in Kochi, continuing to dominate the niche of film publicity design.[2] The studio maintained its momentum through projects like Joji, Kurup, and Theevandi, solidifying its reputation in the industry.[2] It has since designed posters for major films including Turbo, Manjummel Boys, and Premalu in 2024, as well as Anomie, Victoria, and Prakambanam in 2025.[9][10] As of November 2025, Yellowtooths remains operational, with its team managing publicity for multiple ongoing Malayalam film promotions and upholding its status as a leading design firm in Kerala.[9][10]Acting career
Debut and initial films
Aneesh Gopal made his acting debut in the 2012 Malayalam film Second Show, directed by Srinath Rajendran, where he portrayed the character Vikadan, a supporting role in the neo-noir action thriller starring Dulquer Salmaan.[8][6] This marked his entry into cinema as both an actor and the film's poster designer, while also establishing his graphic design career as the founder of Yellowtooths Designs.[2] Building on this momentum, Gopal appeared in Koothara (2014), another Srinath Rajendran directorial, playing the role of a college student in the coming-of-age mystery thriller.[11] His next project was a supporting part in the historical drama Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015), directed by R. S. Vimal, which explored a real-life interfaith romance and featured Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathy Thiruvothu in lead roles, followed by a role in Haleluya (2016).[8] These early roles positioned Gopal as an emerging talent in Malayalam cinema, often cast in ensemble casts that highlighted his ability to contribute to narrative depth without dominating the spotlight. Throughout this period, Gopal faced challenges in balancing his burgeoning acting career with his graphic design work, leading him to take a deliberate break from on-screen opportunities after 2016 to focus on poster design for major films.[2] This interlude allowed him to solidify his reputation in design while selectively pursuing acting roles, reflecting a strategic approach to career development in the competitive Malayalam industry. Initial reception of his performances praised Gopal's versatility as a supporting actor, noting his natural presence and adaptability in diverse genres from thrillers to dramas.[6]Notable roles and collaborations
Gopal gained prominence in Malayalam cinema with his portrayal of Saffer, the loyal friend of the protagonist in the 2018 comedy-drama Theevandi, directed by Fellini T. P., where his performance contributed to the film's light-hearted political satire that received positive critical attention for its engaging narrative and ensemble dynamics.[12][13] In 2019, he showcased his comedic timing as Suni in the sports ensemble comedy Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu, directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas, playing a key supporting role among a group of football enthusiasts that added humor to the film's exploration of friendship and rivalry.[14][15] Later that year, Gopal appeared as Shashankan in the thriller Kalki, directed by Praveen Prabharam, contributing to the film's tense investigative narrative.[16] Gopal's role as a police officer spying on the protagonist in the 2021 horror-thriller Nizhal, directed by Appu N. Bhattathiri, added a layer of suspense, followed by his portrayal of Lopez, an autorickshaw driver in the thriller Bhramam, directed by Ravi K. Chandran, which marked a shift to high-stakes action, including a demanding stunt where he jumped from a third-floor construction site without a body double, earning praise for the character's depth and screen presence in ensemble sequences alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran.[17][18] His recent collaborations include the character of Chandran in the 2023 comedy-drama Nadhikalil Sundari Yamuna, directed by Vijesh Vijay, supporting roles in Partners (2024) and Oru Anweshanathinte Thudakkam (2024), Chegu Babu in the 2024 action-adventure Ajayante Randam Moshanam, directed by Jithin Issac Thomas, and a role in the 2025 thriller Identity, all within diverse ensemble casts that highlight his versatility in character-driven narratives.[19][20][3] While Gopal has not received major awards, his contributions to these films have been noted for adding layered depth to supporting characters, as discussed in industry interviews.[17]Filmography
