Early life
Ben Wiles was born on 17 April 1999 in Rotherham, England. Raised in the local area, including a move to Rawmarsh as a child, he grew up in a working-class environment typical of South Yorkshire.[13] Wiles attended Kilnhurst Primary School, where he first began engaging with football alongside his school activities.[13] His initial exposure to the sport came through informal community play, including street games and local matches, which honed his skills as a midfielder and caught the attention of scouts.[14] By the age of nine, these experiences led to his recruitment into the Rotherham United youth academy, marking the start of his structured football development.[13]Personal life
Wiles grew up in a close-knit family environment in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.[15] His maternal grandfather, Eddie Colquhoun, was a Scottish international footballer who earned nine caps for Scotland between 1971 and 1973.[16] Colquhoun enjoyed a distinguished club career as a defender for Sheffield United, making 433 appearances for the club from 1968 to 1978.[17] Wiles has spoken fondly of his close relationship with Colquhoun, who attended many of his early matches and played a significant role in nurturing his passion for the game.[13] This family heritage has provided Wiles with eligibility to represent Scotland at the international level, opening potential pathways for his national team aspirations beyond his birthplace in England.[18]Club career
Rotherham United
Ben Wiles joined the Rotherham United youth academy at the age of eight, entering the under-8s age group in 2007 after beginning his football journey locally in Rotherham.[19] He progressed through the club's youth ranks over the next decade, developing as a versatile midfielder known for his technical ability and work rate.[15] On 1 June 2017, Wiles signed his first professional contract with Rotherham United, a one-year deal that marked the start of his senior career at his boyhood club.[19] Later that summer, on 10 August 2017, he was sent on a one-month youth loan to Northern Premier League Division One South club Frickley Athletic to gain experience, where he made three appearances without scoring.[20] Upon returning, Wiles made his first-team debut for Rotherham on 3 October 2017, coming on as a substitute in a 2–1 EFL Trophy group stage loss to Chesterfield at the New York Stadium.[15] Wiles gradually established himself in Rotherham's first team during the 2017–18 League One season, initially featuring in cup competitions before earning league opportunities. Over his six-year tenure from 2017 to 2023, he made 193 appearances across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 16 assists.[21] His development into a key creative force was evident in his consistent midfield performances, including notable goals such as his first senior strike against Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Trophy on 8 November 2017.[15] Wiles played a significant role in Rotherham United's two promotions from League One during his time at the club, finishing as runners-up in the 2019–20 season (on a points-per-game basis due to COVID-19) and again in 2021–22.[6] In the 2021–22 promotion campaign, he appeared in every league match, contributing five goals and five assists while helping the team secure automatic promotion with a second-place finish.[22] He also featured in the 2021–22 EFL Trophy final victory over Sutton United at Wembley, starting in the 4–2 win that marked Rotherham's first win in the competition.[23] Wiles departed Rotherham in August 2023 after signing for Huddersfield Town.[9]Huddersfield Town
On 25 August 2023, Ben Wiles transferred to Huddersfield Town from Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year contract until June 2026.[24][9] The move reunited him with former Rotherham manager Neil Warnock, who had previously overseen his development, and positioned Wiles as a versatile addition to the midfield in the Championship.[25] Primarily deployed as a central midfielder, Wiles quickly integrated into Huddersfield's squad, offering box-to-box energy, creative passing, and goal-scoring threat from midfield. During the 2023/24 Championship season, he made 31 appearances across all competitions, adapting to the demands of a relegation battle despite limited starts early on due to the late transfer timing.[21] His role expanded in the 2024/25 League One campaign, where he became a regular starter, scoring eight goals and providing five assists to support the team's promotion push.[15] In the 2025/26 season, he continued as a key player, making 13 league appearances and scoring 2 goals by November.[26] As of November 2025, Wiles had accumulated 92 league appearances and 12 goals for Huddersfield Town, reflecting his growing influence in the club's EFL efforts.[21] On 8 January 2026, Wiles departed Huddersfield Town to join Milton Keynes Dons on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee. Huddersfield manager Lee Grant commented: "Thank you and good luck, Ben."[27]Milton Keynes Dons (2026–present)
On 8 January 2026, Milton Keynes Dons, a Sky Bet League Two club, completed the permanent signing of 26-year-old midfielder Ben Wiles from EFL League One side Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee.[3] The move reunited Wiles with his former Rotherham United manager Paul Warne, who was then in charge at MK Dons, and marked the club's first signing of the January transfer window. Wiles stated: "I’ll work hard, bring energy, and hopefully score some goals!"[3]International career

Ben Wiles has not earned any senior international caps for England or Scotland as of November 2025.[1][26] Despite his eligibility for both nations through birth in England and grandparental heritage from Scotland, he has yet to receive a call-up to either senior squad.[1] Wiles has also made no appearances for England or Scotland at youth international levels, including U21, U19, or younger age groups.[1][26] His focus has remained on club football, where demanding schedules in the English Football League may have limited opportunities for international consideration.[21]Achievements and statistics
