In the east, south and south-west, there is generally fairly close correspondence between the city boundary and the extent of the built-up area. The small patches of urban development which extend across the boundary, as at Rubery, Cofton Common, and Castle Bromwich, are to some extent counter-balanced by the considerable stretches of agricultural land that remain within the boundary, as, for example, in the Woodgate valley and south of King's Norton.
