Key Information

Bridge over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Farnhill

The name Farnhill derives from the Old English fearnhyll meaning 'fern hill'.[4]

To the south of the village is Farnhill Hall, a Grade I listed fortified manor house, dating from the 15th century but much altered.[5]

Until 1974 it was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire.[6] From 1974 to 2023 it was part of the district of Craven, it is now administered by the unitary North Yorkshire Council.
