Fermat Kitchen (Japanese: フェルマーの料理, Hepburn: Ferumā no Ryōri; 'Fermat's Cuisine') is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yūgo Kobayashi. It has been serialized in Kodansha's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Magazine since September 2018. A television drama adaptation aired from October to December 2023. An anime television series adaptation produced by Domerica aired from July to September 2025.

[edit]Written and illustrated by Yūgo Kobayashi, Fermat Kitchen started in Kodansha's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Magazine on September 6, 2018.[10] Kodansha has collected its chapters into individual tankōbon volumes. The first volume was released on June 28, 2019.[11] As of August 29, 2025, six volumes have been released.[12]

Drama
[edit]In August 2023, it was announced that the manga would receive a television drama adaptation titled in English as Fermat's Cuisine,[18][19][3] which was broadcast on TBS from October 20 to December 22 of the same year.[20][21] The theme song is "Re Houteishiki" (Re方程式) by 10-Feet.[22]
Anime
[edit]In January 2025, it was announced that the manga will receive an anime television series adaptation.[23][24] It is produced and written by Domerica and directed by Kazuya Ichikawa, with Takeshi Okamoto and Satsuki Kashiwagi designing the characters, and Satoshi Igarashi composing the music.[4] The series aired from July 5 to September 27, 2025, on TV Asahi's IMAnimation programming block.[25][26] The opening theme song is "Maillard" (メイラード, Meirādo), performed by Oshikikeigo,[27] while the ending theme song is "Change Over", performed by DXTeen.[28]
Remow licensed the series in North America for streaming on its "It's Anime" channel via Samsung TV Plus and YouTube.[29] Medialink licensed the series in Asia-Pacific (except Australia and New Zealand) for streaming on Ani-One Asia's YouTube channel.[30]

Gaku Kitada, a high school student at Wels Academy, aspires to be a great mathematician to uncover the secrets of the world but changes his mind after dropping out of the Mathematical Olympiad competition. Gaku had been working part-time as a chef at his school's cafeteria to support his family. One day when Gaku was making a staff meal, spaghetti Napolitan for himself as his friend Ayu Uomi, who is pursuing a career in sports, a suspicious man approaches Gaku wanting a serving of the staff meal. On June 30, that suspicious man, Kai Asakura, visits Gaku's home with his own version of Napolitan to point out that he is not utilizing his full potential. After Kai leaves, Gaku learns that he has been expelled from Wels and his scholarship to attend Tokyo University has been revoked. After meeting with the academy chairman Saimon, who expresses his disappointment over his performance at the Olympiad, Kai kidnaps Gaku and brings him to Saimon's villa where he is tasked with making Napolitan for Saimon and several academy sponsors. Kai reveals that he is the head chef at Restaurant K, a Michelin star restaurant in Tokyo specializing in French cuisine. | |||||

Saimon and the sponsors are pleasantly surprised with Gaku's Napolitan, and Kai explains how he methodically put the dish together. It is revealed that Saimon set up this dinner to get Gaku to understand his potential as a chef and with the sponsors increasing their funding, Gaku's expulsion is rescinded. Back at home, Gaku sees that his childhood friend Kagura Musashi won the silver medal at the Olympiad. Sometime later, Gaku heads to Tokyo to visit Kai's restaurant and meets Kai's personal maid Nene Fukuda and fellow chef Ranna Akamatsu. Ranna serves Gaku a dish consisting of pork in a sauce made from crab roe, and Gaku explains how this dish was put together to optimize flavor. Impressed by his explanation, Kai comes in to add his insight and explain the difference between good and delicious, while explaining the synergy of umami to enhance the taste. Afterwards, Kai meets with Giichi Musashi, a longtime customer at Restaurant K and a member of the National Diet. He is Kagura's father and is celebrating her birthday at the restaurant. | |||||

Initially, Kagura wanted to leave, but Kai convinces her to stay and eat a meal cooked by Gaku. While pondering what to cook, Kai comes in and will make whatever dish Gaku comes up with. Gaku decides to make a dish based off what Ranna cooked with the umami components carefully constructed based on its synergistic effect. After Kai points out that his approach was off the mark, Gaku finds a tilefish and recalls that his father celebrated Gaku's admission to Wels Academy with a meal consisting of tilefish. Gaku then makes ochazuke consisting of tilefish garnished with dried scallop and prosciutto over rice soaked in broth. Kagura and her father enjoy the dish, and Gaku explains that creating the dish was a balancing act between formulation and intuition. After dinner as Kagura and her father return home, Gaku asks Kai to work at Restaurant K when he graduates from high school as he puts off his plans to attend college. Months later, Gaku graduates from Wels Academy and leaves for Tokyo after having a meal of ochazuke with his father. | |||||

The series was nominated for the 49th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2025.[34]
