Racing career

Early racing in K&N Pro Series West

Kyle Kelley participated in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West on a limited, part-time basis from 2008 to 2015, making sporadic starts without mounting a full-season campaign. This series marked his initial foray into NASCAR developmental stock car racing. In 2008, driving the No. 7 Dodge for UP Racing, Kelley entered two races and finished 8th at Sonoma Raceway and 24th at Miller Motorsports Park, placing 38th in the final points standings. He expanded his schedule slightly in 2009 with four starts in Chevrolet equipment, earning a 10th-place finish at both Sonoma Raceway and Miller Motorsports Park among his results, and ending the year 25th in points. Kelley's most notable achievement in the series came in 2010, when he achieved a 5th-place finish at Miller Motorsports Park—his best recorded result in the series—while competing in five races across Dodge and Chevrolet entries and finishing 24th in the standings. He added four starts in 2011, including an 11th at Sonoma Raceway, and two more in 2012 with finishes of 19th and 15th at Miller Motorsports Park and Portland International Raceway, respectively. After a hiatus, Kelley returned for a single appearance in 2015 with Cooley Racing in the No. 2 Chevrolet, finishing 38th at Sonoma Raceway. Across his tenure in the K&N Pro Series West, he recorded no wins, poles, or championship contention, consistent with his part-time involvement.

He has been an active participant in both the National and Western Championships within the series. In 2024, Kelley showed strong form by topping practice speeds at Thunderhill Raceway Park's season opener with a lap time of 1:48.974 in his Ford Mustang. He went on to earn his first career victory in the Trans-Am Series at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in May 2024, prevailing in a chaotic TA2 race featuring multiple incidents and position changes. This win came after 14 prior starts across the series' Western and National Championships. Later in the year, he also took victory in the TA2 Western Championship race at Circuit of the Americas. He drove Chevrolet entries for UP Racing in 2010 and 2012, NEMCO Motorsports in 2011, and Team Kelley Racing in 2013. He made his series debut in the 2010 Bucyrus 200 at Road America, finishing 37th. Driving the No. 3 UPRacing.com/Jamison Engineering/1st Class Chevrolet Corvette, he started second but inherited the lead when pole-sitter Michael Lewis suffered a rear-end failure at the green flag, then dominated the 20-lap race by leading every lap and winning by a margin of 30.277 seconds. His fastest lap of 1:27.746 (91.820 mph) contributed to an average race speed of 83.154 mph, and he earned the GoPro Hero Move of the Race award for his commanding performance. The previous day at the same event, Kelley narrowly missed another title by finishing second in the Touring 2 class, where he led 16 of 20 laps in his Chevrolet Corvette but lost by just 0.047 seconds. He described the GT-1 victory as fortunate due to his rival's mechanical issue while noting that the Touring 2 race was the one his team truly earned.
