Career

Geordie Shore

Marnie Simpson first appeared on in a brief cameo during series 1 in 2011, visiting the house as a friend of the cast. She joined the show as a full-time cast member in series 7, which premiered on 24 December 2013, initially stepping in temporarily to replace her cousin after Kasaei's departure due to a racist comment. Simpson's addition brought a fresh dynamic to the Newcastle-based reality series, known for its portrayal of the cast's party lifestyle and interpersonal dramas. Her permanent status was confirmed shortly after, solidifying her role in the ensemble. Throughout her tenure, Simpson became central to several high-profile storylines involving relationships and conflicts that heightened the show's entertainment value. She engaged in a notable on-again, off-again fling with co-star Gary "Gaz" Beadle, which spanned multiple series and included dramatic breakups and reconciliations, often fueled by the house's intense social environment. Personal life

Early relationships

Marnie Simpson's early romantic involvements gained public attention primarily through her appearances on the MTV reality series , where she joined as a cast member in 2013. Her relationships with co-stars often unfolded amid the show's high-energy party environment in Newcastle, shaping her media image as a vibrant, outgoing figure in the local nightlife scene. One of her initial on-screen flings was with fellow cast member Gary "Gaz" Beadle in 2013, shortly after she joined the show. The brief romance, marked by intense but short-lived passion, ended amid cast tensions, with Simpson later describing Beadle as manipulative and expressing regret over the involvement, stating it made her feel "physically sick" in hindsight. This dynamic contributed to early perceptions of her as part of the show's chaotic interpersonal web, where flirtations and hookups were commonplace. By 2014, Simpson began an on-and-off relationship with co-star Aaron Chalmers, which became a central storyline across multiple seasons. The pair's volatile connection involved frequent arguments, reconciliations, and public displays of affection, often exacerbated by the show's party-centric setting. In early 2015, while still linked to Chalmers, Simpson started dating star Ricky Rayment, leading to a whirlwind romance that culminated in an engagement announcement in June 2015 after just five months together. However, the engagement ended abruptly during filming for series 11, with Simpson calling off the relationship and returning her focus to the show. Following the split from Rayment, Simpson rekindled her romance with Chalmers in late 2015, but it deteriorated by mid-2016 amid escalating conflicts. The breakup was publicly detailed on the show, with Simpson accusing Chalmers of infidelity involving a woman named Beth, leading to emotional confrontations and their ultimate separation. These episodes, broadcast in 2016, reinforced media narratives portraying Simpson as a "party girl" whose relationships were intertwined with the excesses of nightlife and reality TV drama, often highlighting her resilience amid heartbreak. Public details on any pre-Geordie Shore dating history from her time in the Newcastle scene remain limited, as her fame emerged primarily through the series.

Marriage and family

Marnie Simpson met Casey Johnson, a former contestant and member, on the dating show Single AF in 2017, where they quickly began a relationship. Their romance experienced ups and downs, including a split in 2018 after explosive rows and another brief separation in early 2021 amid Simpson's struggles with depression, but they reconciled and strengthened their bond. Johnson proposed to Simpson during a romantic fairy-lit dinner on August 23, 2020, and the couple married on March 22, 2023, in a ceremony delayed by the . The couple welcomed their first child, son Rox Donovan Johnson, on October 29, 2019, following a traumatic 28-hour labor during which Simpson lost two pints of blood and required two transfusions. In February 2025, Simpson announced her third pregnancy via a family video on Instagram, and their daughter, Kixee Johnson, arrived on July 18, 2025. They prioritize co-parenting, with Simpson crediting Johnson's support during her postpartum recovery and family routines to manage their busy schedules. Despite facing online trolls criticizing her parenting, the couple has shared joyful family moments publicly, emphasizing their commitment to a stable home life.

Health challenges

Following the birth of her first child, Rox, in October 2019, Marnie Simpson experienced significant postpartum challenges, including a traumatic delivery that involved induction, an epidural, and an emergency C-section, during which she lost substantial blood. Recovery was particularly arduous; she described being "bed bound" and in constant agony from the C-section incision, compounded by a severe flare-up of her chronic (UTI), which had been diagnosed in 2016 but intensified after , leaving her unable to fully care for her newborn and often crying herself to sleep from exhaustion and pain. These issues contributed to sleep deprivation and emotional strain, as she balanced recovery with the demands of early motherhood, including frequent night wakings for feeds while managing ongoing discomfort that limited her mobility. Simpson's second pregnancy, culminating in the birth of her Oax in May 2022 via another C-section, brought renewed physical tolls, with postpartum soreness persisting for months and affecting her daily functioning. In early 2024, she participated in Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, but the intense physical demands exacerbated her recovery challenges, including residual C-section pain and a that opened during filming due to water exposure, further straining her as a mother dealing with her baby's . Her third , announced in February 2025, proved equally taxing; by July 2025, while several months along, Simpson required hospitalization and intravenous treatment, sparking concerns over her health amid visible fatigue and the physical burdens of advanced . During her Celebrity SAS stint, Simpson quit after less than an hour, citing acute discomfort from her menstrual period, which she had not delayed despite production advice to take medication for it, leaving her unable to change her in the remote location and heightening her emotional vulnerability. This experience underscored broader discussions on , as Simpson later reflected on how hormonal fluctuations and inadequate facilities amplified her struggles, particularly as a recent still navigating postpartum recovery. Through sharing her experiences, Simpson has advocated for greater awareness of issues, particularly chronic UTIs' impact on motherhood; she has partnered with the Live UTI Free campaign to highlight how recurrent infections hinder caregiving and relationships, urging better NHS recognition and encouraging others to share stories for improved support.
