The Battle of Vlotho during the invasion of Westphalia took place. Rupert escaped death, but was captured by the forces of the Imperial General Melchior von Hatzfeldt towards the end of the battle.
Prince Rupert of the Rhine was born in Prague, Bohemia. This event is significant as it marks the birth of a key figure in English and European history, who would later become a prominent Royalist commander during the English Civil War, a naval admiral, scientist, and colonial governor. His birth took place during a turbulent time, shortly after his father was elected King of Bohemia, an act that precipitated the Thirty Years' War.
