Upbringing
Reign Edwards was born on December 1, 1996, in Harford County, Maryland.[8] She grew up in a close-knit family led by her single mother, who raised Edwards and her two sisters—one older and one younger—in the Maryland area.[9] From a young age, Edwards exhibited notable talents in singing, acting, and songwriting, which her family recognized and actively supported.[9] Her relatives encouraged her creative pursuits, including dance and musical endeavors, fostering an environment that nurtured her artistic interests during childhood.[9] This early familial affirmation helped shape her passion for performance and expression. The family's dynamics, centered on supporting Edwards' emerging abilities, influenced a pivotal relocation from Maryland to Los Angeles.[8] Her mother personally drove the three daughters across the country to the entertainment hub, a move driven by the desire to explore professional opportunities in the arts.[10] This transition positioned her closer to the industry and amplified the trajectory of her early creative development.Entry into entertainment
Edwards made her acting debut at the age of 12 in the 2008 independent film Explicit Ills, directed by Mark Webber, where she appeared in a minor role as a rally participant alongside actors such as Rosario Dawson and Paul Dano. The film, set in Philadelphia and exploring interconnected stories of urban life, marked her initial entry into professional entertainment following a move to Los Angeles with her family to pursue opportunities in the industry.[11] Following her debut, Edwards took a three-year hiatus from acting, during which she explored other creative pursuits, including singing and songwriting as complementary outlets to her performance interests.[12] These early talents, evident from her childhood, allowed her to develop a multifaceted artistic foundation before recommitting to on-screen work.[9] She resumed her acting career around 2011 with a role in the romantic comedy 35 and Ticking, directed by Russ Parr, portraying the younger version of the character Zenobia, played as an adult by Nicole Ari Parker.[13] This appearance signified her return to film after the break, setting the stage for subsequent guest roles in television.[14]Acting career
Early roles (2008–2014)
Edwards began her professional acting career at age 11 with a minor role as a rally participant in the independent drama film Explicit Ills (2008), directed by Mark Webber, which weaves together stories of addiction, family, and urban hardship in Philadelphia.[15] In 2010, she starred as Leah in the short film Thicker Than Water, an early entry into narrative-driven independent projects that allowed her to develop on-screen presence in smaller productions.[16] Edwards' first substantial feature film credit came in 2011 with the ensemble romantic comedy 35 and Ticking, where she portrayed Young Zenobia, the adolescent counterpart to the adult character played by Nicole Ari Parker, at the age of 14; the film follows friends confronting personal milestones as they near 35, blending humor with themes of relationships and self-discovery.[13] Her television debut occurred in 2013, when she appeared as Winnie Lee—a confident, popular high school student—in three episodes of the Nickelodeon superhero family sitcom The Thundermans, marking her initial foray into recurring guest work on a major network series aimed at young audiences. Edwards continued building her television portfolio with a guest role as Kitten in the episode "Debutante Baller" of Disney Channel's K.C. Undercover, which was taped during the show's 2014 production period ahead of its 2015 premiere, providing another opportunity to perform in action-comedy targeted at teens.Soap opera breakthrough (2015–2018)
In January 2015, Reign Edwards was cast as Nicole Avant, the younger sister of Maya Avant, on the CBS soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful, marking her first major recurring role.[3][17] Introduced as an estranged family member seeking reconciliation, Nicole's character quickly became central to the show's narrative through intense family dynamics, including conflicts with her parents, Julius and Vivienne Avant, over their rejection of Maya's transgender identity.[18] Nicole's storyline prominently featured a surrogacy arc, where she agreed to carry a child for Maya and her husband Rick Forrester, giving birth to daughter Lizzie in 2016; this decision strained family ties but highlighted themes of loyalty and sacrifice, significantly impacting the Forrester family's power struggles and romantic entanglements.[17][18] Her relationships evolved further with a romance leading to marriage with Zende Forrester, though later developments, including Nicole's infertility diagnosis stemming from the surrogacy complications, fueled emotional turmoil and resentment toward Maya, culminating in Nicole relinquishing permanent custody of Lizzie.[18] These arcs elevated Edwards' performance, earning her Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series in 2016, 2017, and 2018.[19] Edwards departed the series in January 2018 after three years, with Nicole's final episodes depicting her resolution of the surrogacy aftermath and relocation to Europe with Zende to start anew, allowing the character to exit on a note of personal growth amid ongoing family reconciliation efforts.[17][20] This role solidified Edwards' breakthrough in daytime television, showcasing her ability to navigate complex emotional narratives central to the soap's enduring appeal.[3]Later television work (2019–present)
Following her successful run on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful, Reign Edwards transitioned to more diverse prime-time television roles, leveraging her three consecutive Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Younger Actress (2016, 2017, and 2018) to secure prominent parts in genre-driven series.[19] Edwards continued her portrayal of Melody Wright in FX's Snowfall, a crime drama chronicling the 1980s crack epidemic in Los Angeles, where she depicted Franklin Saint's childhood friend and on-again, off-again romantic interest whose life becomes entangled in the escalating drug trade.[21] Introduced in the series premiere in 2017, her character featured as a series regular across the first three seasons (2017–2020) before returning as a guest in season 4 (2021), appearing in a total of 20 episodes that explored themes of loyalty, family conflict, and personal ambition amid societal turmoil.[22] In parallel, Edwards took on a recurring role as Leanna Martin in the CBS reboot of MacGyver (2016–2020), playing an ambitious operative-in-training and potential love interest for agent Wilt Bozer, with her arc spanning 13 episodes through 2020 and highlighting her skills in interrogation and fieldwork.[23] She also appeared in anthology and limited series, including the role of Cody in the "Pilgrim" episode of Hulu's Into the Dark (2019), a horror-thriller about a family terrorized on Thanksgiving, and as Rochelle in five episodes of Apple TV+'s Truth Be Told (2023), portraying a key figure in the true-crime investigations led by investigator Poppy Parnell.[14] Edwards achieved a lead role breakthrough in Amazon Prime Video's survival thriller The Wilds (2020–2022), starring as Rachel Reid, an elite high school diver stranded on a deserted island with other teenage girls as part of a twisted psychological experiment.[24] Across two seasons and 18 episodes, her character grappled with intense physical challenges, sibling trauma, and group dynamics, evolving from a perfectionist athlete to a resilient survivor confronting loss and betrayal. Most recently, in 2025, Edwards guest-starred as Harper in the ABC crime procedural High Potential, assisting in a complex case involving deception and high-stakes investigation alongside lead consultant Morgan Gillory.Filmography
