Saules (French pronunciation: [sol]) is a municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is located in the French-speaking Bernese Jura (Jura Bernois).
Saules has an area of 4.28 km2 (1.65 sq mi). As of 2012, a total of 1.84 km2 (0.71 mi2) or 43.0% is used for agricultural purposes, while 2.25 km2 (0.87 mi2) or 52.6% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.16 km2 (0.062 mi2) or 3.7% is settled (buildings or roads) and 0.01 km2 (2.5 acres) or 0.2% is unproductive land.
During the same year, housing and buildings made up 2.6% and transportation infrastructure made up 1.2%. Out of the forested land, 46.7% of the total land area is heavily forested and 5.8% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 2.6% is used for growing crops and 31.5% is pastures and 8.9% is used for alpine pastures.
The municipality is located in the Trame valley near Reconvilier.
On 31 December 2009 District de Moutier, the municipality's former district, was dissolved. On the following day, 1 January 2010, it joined the newly created Arrondissement administratif Jura bernois.
The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Argent three Ears Gules in saltire and palewise.
Saules has a population (as of December 2020[update]) of 147. As of 2010[update], 0.7% of the population are resident foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years (2001-2011) the population has changed at a rate of 2%. Migration accounted for 0.7%, while births and deaths accounted for 1.3%.
Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (150 or 91.5%) as their first language, German is the second most common (13 or 7.9%) and Albanian is the third (1 or 0.6%).
