Sergey Mikhailovich Brin was born in Moscow to Mikhail and Eugenia Brin, both mathematicians. His parents faced anti-Semitism in the Soviet Union which influenced their decision to emigrate.

The Brin family emigrated to the United States when Sergey was six years old, seeking greater opportunities and escaping the discrimination they faced in the USSR. They settled in Maryland.

Sergey Brin graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland. He showed early aptitude in mathematics and computer science.

Brin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Maryland, College Park. He graduated with honors and participated in the computer science honors program.

Brin received a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship, providing funding for his graduate studies.

Brin enrolled in a Ph.D. program in computer science at Stanford University, focusing on data mining and information retrieval. This is where he met Larry Page.
