South Coast Railway zone
The South Coast Railway (abbreviated SCoR) is one of the 18 railway zones of the Indian Railways. The zonal headquarters is located at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh having four divisions – Vijayawada, Guntur and Guntakal from South Central Railway and Visakhapatnam division (reorganized and reanamed Waltair division) from East Coast Railway.
The formal notification for operationalization of this zone is issued. It is to be operational from 1 June 2026.
South Coast Railway consists of four railway divisions. They are:
The zone covers the state of Andhra Pradesh and parts of Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Odisha.
The 1106 route km of the present Waltair division is proposed to be distributed between East Coast Railway – Rayagada division (541 km), Khurda division (115 km) and Visakhapatnam division (460 km). With the proposed jurisdictions, SCoR will have division-wise route km and Running track km as: Vijayawada 956 and 1654 respectively, Guntakal 1,452 and 2,145, Guntur 630 and 661 and Visakhapatnam 450 and 810 respectively.
The following sections remain under Visakhapatnam railway division after carving out Rayagada railway division from Waltair railway division.
The zone operates more than 500 trains during peak season to clear the rush of passengers. For the financial year 2020–2021, the zone is expected to collect ₹13,000 crore (equivalent to ₹150 billion or US$1.6 billion in 2023) per annum as per the DPR of SCoR.
