The Gunns
View on WikipediaThe Gunns are a professional wrestling tag team consisting of real-life brothers Austin and Colten Gunn, who are the sons of professional wrestler Billy Gunn. They are signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Ring of Honor (ROH), where they are members of the Bang Bang Gang. They are former one-time AEW World Tag Team Champions and one-time ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions and AEW World Trios Champions (collectively held as the Unified World Trios Championship).
Key Information
Austin and Billy first began teaming on the independent circuit in 2017,[2] before Austin debuted for AEW as his father's tag team partner in 2020.[3] The two began teaming as The Gunn Club. They became a trio later that year when Colten debuted in AEW and joined the group; they teamed for the next two years, until Austin and Colten turned on Billy in favor of siding with Stokely Hathaway in 2022.[4] They soon ceased using the Gunn Club name and began referring themselves as simply "The Gunns".[5] They achieved major success in 2023, winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship.[6] In April 2024, together with Bullet Club Gold member Jay White, they unified the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship and the AEW World Trios Championship as the Unified World Trios Championship.
History
[edit]Independent circuit (2017–present)
[edit]Austin Gunn made his professional wrestling debut on March 18, 2017, by teaming with his father Billy Gunn at a Sunbelt Wrestling Entertainment event against Adam Rose, Deimos and Justin Oversheet in a handicap match, which Austin and Billy won.[7] The father and son duo teamed with each other on a few more occasions on the independent circuit.[8][9]
Austin and Colten Gunn would win their first professional wrestling championship at a New South Wrestling event Resurrection on March 11, 2022, where they defeated TME (Duke Davis and Ganon Jones Jr.) to win the New South Tag Team Championship.[10] Two weeks later, at Royal Glory, they lost the titles to The Bad News Boyz (Brandon Tate and Brent Tate) in a three-way match, also involving Facade and James Storm.

[edit]Early beginnings; various feuds (2020–2022)
[edit]
Billy Gunn joined the upstart promotion All Elite Wrestling from the very beginning in 2019, as a producer and an occasional on-screen talent.[11] His son Austin debuted for AEW in a non-televised match during a taping of Dark on January 1, 2020, as Austin and Billy defeated Preston Vance and Shawn Spears.[12] Austin's televised debut in AEW occurred on the January 14 episode of Dark, as Austin and Billy, known as "The Gunn Club", defeated Peter Avalon and Shawn Spears.[13] Gunn Club established themselves as fan favorites, winning their earlier matches on Dark throughout the year, until the September 15 episode of Dark, where they teamed with Private Party (Isaiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) against The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno, John Silver and Stu Grayson) in an eight-man tag team match, which Dark Order won.[2] Gunn Club's first match as a team on Dynamite occurred on November 4, where they teamed with Cody Rhodes to defeat Dark Order members Colt Cabana, John Silver and Ten in a six-man tag team match.[14]
On the November 17 episode of Dark, Gunn Club expanded to a trio as Billy's elder son Colten made his professional wrestling debut by teaming with Billy and Austin to defeat Bshp King, Joey O'Riley and Sean Maluta.[15] Austin and Colten made their pay-per-view debut at Revolution on March 7, 2021, by participating in a Casino Tag Team Royale as the #5 and #6 entrants, for a future AEW World Tag Team Championship opportunity. They were both eliminated by Q. T. Marshall.[16] On the Thanksgiving Eve episode of Dynamite on November 24, The Gunns defeated Bear Country. Gunn Club enjoyed a successful run on Dark throughout 2021, winning all of their tag team and six-man tag team matches. Their success continued in 2022, resulting in Austin and Colten topping AEW's tag team rankings on February 9, with a tag team record of 3-0 in 2022.[17] As a result, Austin and Colten earned a World Tag Team Championship opportunity against Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus) on the February 11 episode of Rampage,[18] which they failed to win.[19] Austin and Colten would fail in subsequent #1 contender's matches on the February 23 and March 2 episodes of Dynamite to earn another opportunity at the titles.[20][21]
During this time, Gunn Club transitioned into villains by forming an alliance with The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster).[22][23] Caster began teaming with Gunn Club more frequently after Bowens suffered a knee injury in May.[24] They began appearing more on Dynamite and Rampage, beginning with the June 1 episode of Dynamite, where they lost to CM Punk and FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood).[25][26] On the Road Rager episode of Rampage, Caster and Gunn Club defeated Ruffin It (Bear Boulder, Bear Bronson and Leon Ruffin).[27] At AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door, the entire Gunn Club trio teamed with Caster to defeat Alex Coughlin, Kevin Knight, The DKC and Yuya Uemura.[28]
On the 2022 Blood and Guts episode of Dynamite, Caster and the Gunn Club lost to Danhausen and FTR after Bowens accidentally hit Austin with his crutch. Austin and Colten confronted Acclaimed after the match and left the ring, while Billy stayed with the Acclaimed.[29] The following week, on Dynamite, the Acclaimed and Gunn Club defeated Fuego Del Sol and Ruffin It in an eight-man tag team match. However, Billy attacked the Acclaimed after the match due to dissension between both teams.[30] This would result in the Gunn Club facing the Acclaimed in a dumpster match on the August 3 episode of Dynamite,[31] which Gunn Club lost.[32] Billy tried to reconcile with Austin and Colten on the August 17 episode of Dynamite but Stokely Hathaway appeared on the stage and Austin and Colten turned on Billy by attacking him and siding with Hathaway, which resulted in Acclaimed making the save and forming an alliance with Billy. This marked Billy's removal from the Gunn Club.[33]
Austin and Colten resumed their alliance with Stokely Hathaway, as they joined his group of wrestlers The Firm and changed their name to The Gunns.[34][35][36] Gunns began mocking FTR by impersonating them during their matches, also including attacking them post-match at Final Battle.[37] This led to a match between both teams at the Holiday Bash episode of Dynamite,[38] which the Gunns won.[39]
Bullet Club Gold / Bang Bang Gang (2023–present)
[edit]On the February 8 episode of Dynamite, Gunns defeated The Acclaimed to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships.[40] After successfully defending the titles twice,[41] The Gunns name-dropped FTR among the teams they had beaten during a post-match interview, which led to FTR returning to AEW and attacking the Gunns.[42][43] The Gunns subsequently lost against FTR in a title vs career match on the April 5 edition of Dynamite.[44] This would effectively disband The Firm, with the Gunns allying with Jay White and Juice Robinson of Bullet Club Gold.[45][46]
On January 17, 2024, The Gunns and White defeated Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage, Kaun and Toa Liona) for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship.[47] On the January 20 episode of Collision, The Gunns, White, The Acclaimed, and Billy Gunn joined forces to form a stable known as the Bang Bang Scissor Gang, reuniting Austin and Colten with their father Billy. On March 13 at Big Business, Bullet Club Gold turned on The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn, disbanding the Bang Bang Scissor Gang. On April 5 at Supercard of Honor, The Gunns made their debut for Ring of Honor (ROH), teaming with White to retain their ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championships against Monstersauce (Lance Archer and Alex Zayne) and Minoru Suzuki. At Dynasty Zero Hour, Bullet Club Gold defeated The Acclaimed in a winner takes all championship unification match to unify the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship with the AEW World Trios Championship as the Unified World Trios Championship.[48] During this time, Bullet Club Gold silently renamed to the Bang Bang Gang.[49] On the June 5 Rampage tapings, a returning Robinson wrestled his first match since his return, teaming with The Gunns to win a trios match. After the match, White announced that he was giving Robinson a share of the Unified Trios Championship held by White and the Gunns, thus invoking the Freebird Rule.[50] However, on the July 13 episode of Collision, interim AEW Executive Vice President Christopher Daniels overruled Bang Bang Gang's attempt to invoke the Freebird Rule and stripped them of the Unified World Trios Championship.[51] On the following week, The Gunns and Robinson failed to win the vacant AEW World Trios Championship, which was won by The Patriarchy (Christian Cage, Killswitch and Nick Wayne) after interference from Mother Wayne.[52] On August 25 at All In, The Gunns and Robinson participated in a four-way ladder match for the trios titles, which was won by Pac and Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta).[53]
On the February 5, 2025 episode of Dynamite, The Gunns returned after a brief hiatus and challenged The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin) to a match for the AEW World Tag Championships the following week, where they were defeated.[54][55] In July 2025, Colten would suffer a legitimate knee injury during a match, leaving him out of action indefinitely and putting the team on hiatus.[56]

Independent circuit (2017–present)
Austin Gunn, one half of the tag team The Gunns, made his professional wrestling debut on March 18, 2017, at a Sunbelt Wrestling Entertainment (SWE) event in Orlando, Florida, where he teamed with his father, Billy Gunn, to defeat Adam Rose, Deimos, and Justin Overstreet in a handicap match.[10] This marked the beginning of Austin's independent circuit career, during which he primarily competed in singles and tag team matches across various regional promotions in the southeastern United States, building experience under his father's guidance.[11] Throughout 2017 and 2018, Austin Gunn appeared in promotions such as Beach Wrestling Entertainment (BWE), Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW), and Full Impact Pro (FIP), often facing midcard opponents to hone his in-ring skills.[10] He also participated in the Over Budget Battle Royal at All In on September 1, 2018, an independent supershow co-promoted by Ring of Honor (ROH) and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he was eliminated early in the match won by Flip Gordon.[11] These appearances helped establish Gunn as an up-and-coming second-generation talent on the indie scene. In 2019, Austin Gunn continued his independent bookings while expanding to short-term engagements with larger promotions. He competed in several MCW events and ventured into other territories like Southland Championship Wrestling (SCW) and Pro Wrestling 2.0 (PW2.0).[10] A highlight was his participation in ROH's 2019 Top Prospect Tournament, a showcase for independent wrestlers, where he advanced to the finals before losing to Dak Draper on September 28, 2019.[11] This exposure preceded his full-time transition to major promotions. Colten Gunn, Austin's older brother and the other half of The Gunns, did not compete on the independent circuit prior to his debut, opting instead for a direct entry into All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in late 2020.[12] However, as a team, The Gunns have made sporadic independent appearances since forming in AEW. On January 11, 2022, they teamed for Pro Wrestling Action in Sanford, Florida, defeating Tyler Uriah and Cameron Stewart in a tag team match.[13] Such outings have remained limited amid their commitments to AEW and Ring of Honor, allowing them to maintain a presence on the indie landscape while focusing on national television. All Elite Wrestling / Ring of Honor (2020–present)
Austin Gunn signed with All Elite Wrestling in January 2020, making his first in-ring appearance on the January 7 episode of AEW Dark, teaming with his father Billy Gunn as part of the newly formed Gunn Club stable to defeat Shawn Dean and M'Badu. On the January 14 episode, they defeated Peter Avalon and Shawn Spears.[14] Colten Gunn joined the promotion later that year, debuting on the November 11 episode of AEW Dark (aired November 17) alongside his father and brother in a victory over Bshp King, Joey O'Riley, and Sean Maluta.[12] As the Gunn Club, the brothers primarily competed in multi-man matches on AEW Dark and Rampage, facing teams such as The Wingmen and The Factory, while occasionally appearing on Dynamite in battle royals and tag team bouts against established acts like FTR and The Acclaimed.[15] The stable maintained a babyface role through 2021, participating in high-profile events like the Casino Tag Team Royale at Revolution in March, where Austin and Colten entered as the fifth team but were eliminated by Private Party. On the September 1, 2021 episode of Dynamite, the Gunn Club turned heel by attacking Paul Wight following a loss, shifting their dynamic to arrogant enforcers aligned loosely with other heels. This persona carried into 2022, with the group challenging for the AEW World Tag Team Championship unsuccessfully against Jurassic Express on the February 11 episode of Rampage. In August 2022, tensions within the stable escalated when Austin and Colten betrayed Billy Gunn on Dynamite after he aligned with The Acclaimed, leading to the brothers rebranding as The Gunns and feuding intensely with the tag team over mic work and in-ring encounters. The Gunns solidified their heel status by aligning with MJF's Firm faction in late 2022, adopting a corporate enforcer gimmick while continuing tag team pursuits. On the February 8, 2023 episode of Dynamite in El Paso, Texas, The Gunns defeated The Acclaimed—via interference from MJF—to capture the AEW World Tag Team Championship in their first reign as a unit, marking a controversial title change that drew significant fan backlash.[5] Their 56-day reign ended on April 5, 2023, on Dynamite in a titles versus careers match against FTR, where a loss forced their expulsion from The Firm and ended the stable's storyline.[5] Following the title loss, The Gunns began aligning with Jay White and Juice Robinson's Bullet Club Gold group, first teaming with them against CM Punk on the June 24, 2023 episode of Collision and officially joining on the July 1 episode after White's invitation.[16] The faction rebranded to Bang Bang Gang in mid-2023, emphasizing a gunslinger theme, with The Gunns serving as the tag team core while competing across AEW and Ring of Honor programming. In ROH, they challenged for the ROH World Tag Team Championship on the Full Gear 2023 zero-hour pre-show but lost to MJF and Samoa Joe.[17] In January 2024, Bang Bang Gang temporarily merged with The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn to form the Bang Bang Scissor Gang supergroup on the January 20 episode of Collision, combining trios title reigns in a short-lived alliance that saw them defeat The Mogul Embassy at Revolution.[18] The group imploded on the March 13 episode of Dynamite amid internal distrust, with Bang Bang Gang attacking their former allies to reassert independence. On January 17, 2024, at an ROH event, Jay White and The Gunns defeated Mogul Embassy to win the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship, their first title in the promotion. The Gunns, alongside White, unified the ROH titles with the AEW World Trios Championship by defeating The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn on April 21, 2024, at Dynasty, creating the AEW Unified World Trios Championship.[19] They defended the unified titles successfully against teams like Death Triangle at Double or Nothing in May 2024 before the championships were vacated on July 13, 2024, due to Juice Robinson's injury, ending their trios reign after approximately three months. In ROH, the group made regular appearances on HonorClub tapings, defending the six-man titles against local talent and cross-promotional challengers until the unification's end. Throughout 2024 and into 2025, The Gunns continued as key members of Bang Bang Gang. On the February 5, 2025 episode of Dynamite, the faction challenged The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin) for a future tag team clash, positioning The Gunns for renewed tag division contention amid ongoing storylines involving faction warfare. However, injuries sidelined the brothers mid-2025, with Austin dealing with an undisclosed issue and Colten suffering a knee injury during a July match on Collision. They returned to action at All In Texas on July 12, 2025, aiding Juice Robinson in the Men's Casino Gauntlet match. Colten's injury proved long-term, keeping him out as of November 2025, while Austin remained active, teaming with Juice Robinson to defeat FTR on the November 8, 2025, episode of Collision as part of escalating rivalries leading into Blood & Guts.[7][8][20]The Gunn Club (2020–2022)
