Ultraviolette Automotive
Ultraviolette Automotive (ˌʌl.trəˈvaɪə.lət), commonly referred to as Ultraviolette or UV, is an Indian brand that manufactures and sells performance electric motorcycles. The Bengaluru-based company was the first in India to venture into the performance electric motorcycle segment.
Founded by friends, Narayan Subramaniam (CEO) and Niraj Rajmohan (CTO) in 2016, the company operates out of its headquarters in Bangalore, India. Ultraviolette is backed by a wide spectrum of global investors, including Lingotto (a subsidiary of EXOR N.V., with majority or controlling stakes in brands such as Ferrari, Stellantis, CNH Industrial, Iveco Group, The Economist Group, Via, and Juventus), Qualcomm Ventures, Gofrugal, Zoho Corporation, TVS Motors, and Speciale Invest. Other notable Investors include Malayalam film actor Dulquer Salmaan.
The company set out with the aim of creating an urban performance motorcycle and launched its flagship motorcycle, the Ultraviolette F77, in October 2022. Ultraviolette has since expanded its portfolio by launching the second generation of the F77, called the F77 MACH 2, along with its exclusive fast charging network called the UV Supernova, the F99 Racing Platform, and a tech-infused merchandise platform called the UV Airspace. The Ultraviolette factory, located in Bengaluru, is capable of manufacturing 10,000 units per year, and can go up to 30,000 units with multiple shifts. Ultraviolette has been rapidly expanding its network of dealerships across India, and has launched 11 new experience centers in a span of 5 months, including Kathmandu, Nepal. The experience centers, called the UV Space Stations and UV Space Pods, provide 3S facilities that offer sales, service and spares ensuring an end-to-end ownership experience for all the customers.
Ultraviolette has also set its sights on expansion into Europe. The F77 MACH 2 secured certification for the European markets and the company has officially announced their European launch at the prestigious Milan Motor Show, EICMA 2024, with an introductory price of EUR 9,999.
F77: Designed as an urban performance motorcycle, the Ultraviolette F77 was the result of several years of research and innovation after going through multiple iterations based on the brand's design philosophies. Boasting the largest battery pack (10.3 kWh) for an electric 2-wheeler in India at the time, the motorcycle was certified with an IDC range of 307 km. The F77 was also the fastest electric 2-wheeler made in India. The brand's aviation-inspired design philosophy was very evident with the F77, which was released in two variants, Original and Recon, available in three different colour options: Airstrike, Shadow, and Laser. The motorcycle went on sale in October 2022 and deliveries began by February 2023. Ultraviolette also offered a Limited-Edition variant of the F77, with only 77 units produced, which were all sold out.
F77 Space Edition: As a tribute to India's exceptional space odyssey and to commemorate the launch of the Chandrayaan 3 lunar exploration mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Ultraviolette announced the F77 Space Edition, a limited-edition variant with Aerospace-grade Aluminium and paint. Only 10 units were built and sold.
F77 MACH 2: In April 2024, Ultraviolette launched its second generation of the F77, called the F77 MACH 2, which was available in 9 new colours. While maintaining the same battery architecture and specs, Ultraviolette managed to improve the IDC range to 323 km, with additional improvements in the top speed and torque figures. A host of new safety and smart tech features were also introduced, along with 10 levels of Dynamic Regenerative Braking, 4 levels of Traction Control and a patented Dynamic Stability Control system. The smart tech features included movement and towing alerts, crash detection, and remote lockdown.
Ultraviolette holds the distinction of being the first automobile manufacturer in the world to offer an extended warranty of up to 800,000 km on the F77 MACH 2. All of the new features were also made to be reverse-compatible with the first-generation F77, and were offered free-of-cost to the existing owners.
