Key Information

History

[edit]

Founded by friends, Narayan Subramaniam (CEO) and Niraj Rajmohan (CTO) in 2016, the company operates out of its headquarters in Bangalore, India. Ultraviolette is backed by a wide spectrum of global investors, including Lingotto (a subsidiary of EXOR N.V., with majority or controlling stakes in brands such as Ferrari, Stellantis, CNH Industrial, Iveco Group, The Economist Group, Via, and Juventus), Qualcomm Ventures, Gofrugal, Zoho Corporation, TVS Motors, and Speciale Invest.[7][8] Other notable Investors include Malayalam film actor Dulquer Salmaan.[9]

The company set out with the aim of creating an urban performance motorcycle and launched its flagship motorcycle, the Ultraviolette F77, in October 2022.[10] Ultraviolette has since expanded its portfolio by launching the second generation of the F77, called the F77 MACH 2, along with its exclusive fast charging network called the UV Supernova, the F99 Racing Platform, and a tech-infused merchandise platform called the UV Airspace.[11][12][13] The Ultraviolette factory, located in Bengaluru, is capable of manufacturing 10,000 units per year, and can go up to 30,000 units with multiple shifts. Ultraviolette has been rapidly expanding its network of dealerships across India, and has launched 11 new experience centers in a span of 5 months, including Kathmandu, Nepal. The experience centers, called the UV Space Stations and UV Space Pods, provide 3S facilities that offer sales, service and spares ensuring an end-to-end ownership experience for all the customers.[14]

Ultraviolette has also set its sights on expansion into Europe. The F77 MACH 2 secured certification for the European markets and the company has officially announced their European launch at the prestigious Milan Motor Show, EICMA 2024, with an introductory price of EUR 9,999.[15]

The Ultraviolette F77 awarded the Electric 2 - Wheeler of the Year by Autocar Awards, 2024

F77: Designed as an urban performance motorcycle, the Ultraviolette F77 was the result of several years of research and innovation after going through multiple iterations based on the brand's design philosophies. Boasting the largest battery pack (10.3 kWh) for an electric 2-wheeler in India at the time, the motorcycle was certified with an IDC range of 307 km.[16] The F77 was also the fastest electric 2-wheeler made in India.[17] The brand's aviation-inspired design philosophy was very evident with the F77, which was released in two variants, Original and Recon, available in three different colour options: Airstrike, Shadow, and Laser. The motorcycle went on sale in October 2022[10] and deliveries began by February 2023.[18] Ultraviolette also offered a Limited-Edition variant of the F77, with only 77 units produced, which were all sold out.

F77 Space Edition: As a tribute to India's exceptional space odyssey and to commemorate the launch of the Chandrayaan 3 lunar exploration mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Ultraviolette announced the F77 Space Edition, a limited-edition variant with Aerospace-grade Aluminium and paint. Only 10 units were built and sold.

F77 MACH 2: In April 2024, Ultraviolette launched its second generation of the F77, called the F77 MACH 2, which was available in 9 new colours.[11] While maintaining the same battery architecture and specs, Ultraviolette managed to improve the IDC range to 323 km, with additional improvements in the top speed and torque figures. A host of new safety and smart tech features were also introduced, along with 10 levels of Dynamic Regenerative Braking, 4 levels of Traction Control and a patented Dynamic Stability Control system.[11] The smart tech features included movement and towing alerts, crash detection, and remote lockdown.

Ultraviolette holds the distinction of being the first automobile manufacturer in the world to offer an extended warranty of up to 800,000 km on the F77 MACH 2.[19] All of the new features were also made to be reverse-compatible with the first-generation F77, and were offered free-of-cost to the existing owners.[20]

F77 SuperStreet: On 31 January 2025, Ultraviolette launched a street-oriented version of the F77, called the SuperStreet.[21] Retaining the design principles of its predecessors, the F77 SuperStreet was characterized by an upright riding posture and comfortable ergonomics for long-distance riding. This new form factor offered an 80 degree ride angle compared to the 55 degree ride angle in the previous iterations of the F77. Equipped with a raised and widened tubular handlebar, the F77 SuperStreet offered the same high performance specs without compromising on comfort.[21]

F99: Ultraviolette also aims to mark its presence in the racing space with the F99 Factory Racing Platform. The F99 is the first ever superbike designed and manufactured by an Indian brand. The first concept prototype was unveiled at EICMA in November 2023, where Ultraviolette showed off a fully electric superbike with active aerodynamics.[22] The motorcycle was unveiled in India for the first time at the AD Design Show in September 2024, where the company announced its intention to break the records for the fastest quarter-mile time and the highest top speed achieved by an Indian-made motorcycle.[23]

Ultraviolette finally unveiled the race-ready version of the F99, which featured a full carbon fiber body, at The Valley Run event held at the Aamby valley on 1 December 2024. A few hours later, the F99, piloted by multiple-time national champion, Abhishek Vasudev, broke the record for the fastest quarter-mile time set by an Indian-made motorcycle with a time of 10.712 seconds.[24] On 26 January 2025, Autocar India and Ultraviolette Automotive broke the record for the Fastest Speed Achieved by an Indian Motorcycle (EV) using the Ultraviolette F99. The F99 set a record-breaking top speed of 258 kmph at the National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) and the spectacle was verified and recognized by the India Book of Records.[25] Ultraviolette aims to use the F99 Factory Racing Platform to push the limits of innovation and technology.

UV Supernova: In March 2024, Ultraviolette rolled out its proprietary highway fast charging network called the UV Supernova.[13] The objective was to facilitate inter-city travel for the F77 users. Located on strategic motorcycling routes and major highways, the Supernova charging stations aim to provide options for long distance motorists to charge their motorcycles and get back on the road with fewer breaks. The charging stations are equipped with Type 6 connectors that are compatible exclusively with the F77 motorcycles. Notably, Ultraviolette also partnered with HPCL to help grow its charging infrastructure.[26]

UVLYNC: On 30 January 2025, Ultraviolette launched a Type 2 Interface, called UVLYNC, which allows all electric 2-wheelers in India to access over 4000 AC car charging stations across the country. This aims to improve accessibility to the charging network for India's growing EV automobile industry.[27]

Ultraviolette Tesseract: An EV scooter with and a range of 167 km (103 mi) per charge and a top speed of 125 kmph. The vehicle have a battery capacity of 3.5 kW. This is the first scooter to introduce front and rear dashcam. This scooter can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds.

Ultraviolette X47 is a new electric crossover motorcycle. It includes a 30 kW motor, a 10.3kWh or 7.1kWh battery option, and a 145 kmph top speed. It comes with technology like a rear-facing radar for blind-spot detection. They have also introduced the UVHYPERSENSE, which is claimed to be the world's first two-wheeler with radar intelligence in its segment, tested on Indian roads.[28]
