Musical career and early life

Chambers was born in Vancouver, Canada. She then moved to Barbados, where she grew up. She began her career by posting four of her original songs on her MySpace page at the age of 15. She was signed by Sylvia Rhone to Universal Motown when she turned 16.[1]

Chambers was the opening act, singing "Heat Wave", at the November 2009 Thanksgiving Day NFL half-time show featuring a Motown Review by the future of Motown. Chambers' first single, "Young Money", was released in March 2010. Her EP "The Get Go" was released in March with five songs on iTunes. At age 17, Vita toured with fellow Canadian singer Justin Bieber as one of his opening acts on his My World Tour in 2010,[1] as well as performing at Lilith Fair in 2010, Bamboozle Road Show, Pop-Con at the Nassau Coliseum,[2] and touring with Forever The Sickest Kids. She also performed with Estelle at the 2010 Soul Train Awards in Atlanta.

Chambers is now an independent artist under her own company Gold Note Productions. She released a single, "Fix You", on December 18, 2012. Fix You was nominated for the Best Dance Record for the 2013 Juno Awards,[1] and within 3 months "Fix You" entered the Top 40 in Canada. Vita was also the #4 Emerging artist on the Canadian Hot 100 Billboard chart. It spent over 20 weeks in the top 100. "Fix You" achieved Gold status in Canada, and has sold over 350,000 copies worldwide to date.

Later that year, Vita released her second single called "What If?" under Gold Note Productions Ltd. In 2014 Vita received 2 nominations at the Canadian Music Radio Awards for Best New Group or Solo Artist CHR and Best New Group or Solo Artist Dance/Urban/Rhythmic.

Vita released a new single called "A+D" on April 21, 2014, which lyrically expressed Vita's strong belief that good is in everyone despite outside influences. She also released a 2014 FIFA World Cup song called "El Camino", produced by Mike Solo with a chorus of 8 kids.[3]

In February 2015, Vita released a new single called "Kings Of Love" along with an accompanying music video directed by Jimmy Keegan.[4] Since then Vita has released "His Love", "A+D Orchestral", "Tell Me", "Ferrous" and "Want You" in 2016.

In 2018 Vita released her new EP entitled VITA.

Tours and live performances

Vita Chambers has performed live throughout her career, with notable activity during her major label period and more sporadic appearances as an independent artist. In 2009, she participated in Motown's 50th Anniversary Salute at the NFL Thanksgiving Day halftime show, performing as an opening act for an audience of 20 million viewers.[32] She also appeared at the Soul Train Awards that year.[32] Her most prominent touring came in 2010, when she served as an opening act on Justin Bieber's My World Tour, including performances at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on August 21 and Scotiabank Place in Ottawa on August 24.[33] She also joined the Lilith Fair lineup, appearing at venues such as the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park on July 17, Target Center in Minneapolis on July 18, Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville on July 20, DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston on July 21, and Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte on August 8.[33] Additionally, she performed on the Bamboozle Roadshow at Six Flags parks, including Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta on May 23, Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington on May 29, Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio on May 30, Six Flags St. Louis on June 13, and Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson on June 24.[34] She took part in Pop-Con at Nassau Coliseum and other events that year.[35] Following her shift to independent status, Chambers' live performances have been more limited, consisting mainly of one-off shows and smaller tours. These include appearances in Toronto at the Opera House in November 2013 and Danforth Music Hall in October 2014, as well as at The Vogue in Indianapolis in June 2017.[36] She has also performed in international locations such as Phuket, Thailand.[37] No major tours have been documented since her early career peak.

Extended plays

Vita Chambers has released two extended plays during her career. Her debut EP, ''The Get Go'', was released in 2010 through Universal Motown. The five-track project served as her initial major-label output and includes the songs "Young Money", "Like Boom", "The Get Go", "Shut Your Mouth", and "Get Out My Head".[38][14] In 2018, Chambers independently released her second EP, titled ''VITA''. The four-track EP features "Strange Delight", "You Should Know", "Seduce Me", and "Treasure".[30][39]

Recognition

Chart performance and certifications

"Fix You" achieved moderate commercial success in Canada, marking Chambers' most notable chart entry. The song debuted on the Canadian Hot 100 in March 2013 and peaked at number 40, charting for over 20 weeks.[45] It entered the Top 40.[3] No certifications are listed for "Fix You" or other singles by Chambers with Music Canada. No other singles by Chambers achieved significant chart positions.

Awards and nominations

Chambers' work has earned her several nominations, primarily for her breakthrough single "Fix You." At the Juno Awards in 2013, she was nominated for Dance Recording of the Year for "Fix You".[2] In 2014, she received two nominations at the Canadian Radio Music Awards: Best New Group or Solo Artist CHR and Best New Group or Solo Artist Dance/Urban/Rhythmic, both for "Fix You".
