AB6IX had the album showcase on October 7 at Kyung Hee University in Seoul where they performed title track "Blind For Love" along with "Be There" and "Deep Inside".[3]
The group started promoting their title track "Blind For Love" on October 10. They first performed the lead single on Mnet's M Countdown, followed by performances on KBS' Music Bank, MBC's Show! Music Core and SBS' Inkigayo.
Critical reception
[edit]Billboard's Jeff Benjamin called the single "Blind for Love" a second part to "Breathe" from B Complete, noting its "sleek house-inspired sound". He pointed out the variety of genres on the album, describing the songs "_And Me" and "Be There" as a "a blend of gentle pop and steely hip-hop", "Love Air" as featuring "tropical house vibes", "Pretty" as "staccato-piano pop", "Shadow" as having a "late-night EDM" sound and "Deep Inside" as containing "deep harmonies", while noting "D.R.E.A.M" is a "straightforward hip-hop cut" and closing track "Nothing Without You" a ballad.[1]

Conception and recording
AB6IX, a five-member boy group under Brand New Music, was formed in April 2019, drawing from members with prior experience in survival programs like Mnet's Produce 101 Season 2—where Lee Dae-hwi and Park Woo-jin debuted in the project group Wanna One—and trainees including Jeon Woong, who later appeared on Produce X 101. The group's name, AB6IX, symbolizes "Absolute Brandnew" with "6" representing the five members plus their fandom, ABNEW.[4] Following their debut EP B:Complete on May 22, 2019, work on their first studio album 6ixense began in mid-2019, spanning approximately four months of intensive development to build on their rookie momentum. The project emphasized self-production, with all five members—Lim Young-min, Kim Dong-hyun, Park Woo-jin, Lee Dae-hwi, and Jeon Woong—contributing to lyrics and composition across the 11 tracks, marking their early growth as artist-dols.[5] Key external producers included Boombastic and Kim Tae-wan for the opening track "Be There," while the title track "Blind for Love" was helmed by nomad, Sanzowave, and SFRM, with composition credits to Lee Dae-hwi and lyrics by Rhymer, Park Woo-jin, and others.[6] Additional songwriters like Xepy and member-specific contributions, such as Dong-hyun's lyrics for "Pretty," highlighted Brand New Music's collaborative in-house approach.[7] Recording sessions took place primarily in Seoul-based studios over several months, from summer into early fall 2019, as the group balanced rookie schedules with vocal and rap preparations.[8] As newcomers, the members faced challenges including adapting to diverse song tones—such as sharp, delicate vocals in "My Window" and high-note pushes in "Blind for Love"—and completing a large volume of material in a compressed timeline, leading to off-pitch moments and the need for repeated takes to convey emotional depth.[8] Despite these hurdles, the process fostered personal attachments, with members like one handling full guide vocals for "Brain Color" and another writing lyrics for "D.R.E.A.M" inspired by childhood aspirations, resulting in a "homemade" album that showcased their strengths and intuitive sensory direction.[8]Title and artwork
The album title 6ixense is a portmanteau derived from "sixth sense," pronounced similarly to evoke intuition and an unexpected twist, drawing inspiration from M. Night Shyamalan's 1999 film The Sixth Sense.[3] This etymology symbolizes the group's "absolute six" identity—comprising their five members and fans—while encouraging listeners to engage intuitively with the music beyond surface analysis.[3] The overarching concept theme revolves around youthful energy and sensory experiences, presented as a "love letter" to fans that explores growth in love, aspiration, and emotional depth.[3] Tracks evoke varied moods, from sleek pop and house influences to tropical and EDM elements, mirroring sensory immersion and tying into the intuitive "sixth sense" motif.[3] The artwork features two versions: 6IX Ver. (with a red box and slipcase) and SENSE Ver. (in a contrasting design).[9] Both employ a moody, monochrome aesthetic with the members in all-white attire, accented by neon orange patterns that deconstruct the group's logo for an abstract, stylish effect.[10] These visuals symbolize sensory intuition and unity, with elements like blindfold motifs in promotional teasers reinforcing the title track's theme of blind devotion.[11] Packaging includes an 80-page photobook (159x159mm) with version-specific imagery, a CD, a sticker sheet, a random photocard (1 of 15), a QR postcard, a secret photocard (1 of 5), a random bookmark (1 of 5), and a random envelope (1 of 5).[9] Standard editions come without extras, while limited first-press copies feature a folded poster (594x841mm) and a polaroid photo (first 200 copies across versions).[9]Musical content
Genres and styles
6IXENSE, the debut studio album by South Korean boy band AB6IX, blends core K-pop elements with influences from EDM, pop, R&B, and hip-hop, creating a versatile soundscape that caters to various listener moods. The album incorporates house and deep house rhythms in its title track "Blind For Love," delivering an upbeat, groovy dance style with addictive hooks and trap-infused beats that evoke boundless energy and romance.[11][12] Other tracks expand this palette, featuring bubblegum pop cheer in "Pretty" and "Love Air," alongside R&B-inflected emotional depth in slow-paced numbers like "_And Me" and "Deep Inside."[12][13] Ballads form a poignant counterpoint, with "Dandelion" offering a relaxing, introspective style through its gentle melody and lyrics exploring isolation, while "Nothing Without You" emphasizes soaring vocal harmonies and ad-libs for raw emotional impact. Experimental synth-pop emerges in "Sunset," characterized by explosive drop beats, keyboard layers, and vocal slowdowns that build tension before powerful choruses, infusing the track with a futuristic, anthemic vibe. Hip-hop shines through rap-heavy selections like "D.R.E.A.M," where members Lim Young-min and Park Woojin deliver intricate flows over EDM-backed production, contrasting melodic verses with steely rhythms. "Be There" exemplifies hybrid styles, starting softly with pop sensibilities before erupting into hip-hop-infused EDM choruses.[11][13] Production techniques highlight innovative layering and member involvement, enhancing the album's cohesive yet diverse feel. Auto-tuned choruses and layered vocal harmonies add texture to tracks like "D.R.E.A.M" and "Shadow," the latter featuring acoustic guitar and Young-min's self-composed introspection on elusive love. AB6IX members contributed significantly, with Lee Dae-hwi co-composing and co-writing "Blind For Love," while Woojin and Young-min penned its rap sections; the vocal line (Dae-hwi, Kim Dong-hyun, Lee Woo-jung) drives ballads, and rappers handle dynamic verses across the board. This hands-on approach, spanning songwriting and performance, underscores the group's rookie freshness while aligning with contemporary K-pop's emphasis on self-produced artistry.[11][13][12]Track listing

Release and promotion
Singles
Prior to the release of 6ixense, AB6IX announced their comeback schedule on September 18, 2019, outlining teasers including concept photos from September 23 to 28 and the full album launch on October 7.[16] The promotional track "Be There (기대)", the album's opening song, was highlighted to build anticipation, offering an emotional rollercoaster from soft verses to powerful choruses that set the tone for the record.[17][11] The album's lead single, "Blind For Love", served as the title track and was released digitally and via music video on October 7, 2019, coinciding with 6ixense's debut.[18] Co-composed and with lyrics penned by member Lee Dae-hwi, alongside raps by Lim Young-min and Park Woo-jin, the deep house track explores the theme of "blind love"—a passionate devotion where one sacrifices everything for romance, conveyed through intense, metaphorical lyrics.[18] The accompanying music video premiered the same day, adopting a dark, fiery aesthetic with dynamic visuals of flames and shadows to symbolize obsessive love, marking a stark evolution from the light, ethereal vibe of their debut single "Breathe".[19] Choreography highlights include synchronized sharp formations and fluid wave-like motions during the chorus, emphasizing group unity and intensity, with fire motifs integrated into key dance breaks for visual impact.[19] No official videos were produced for b-sides like "Dandelion (민들레꽃)", though it received fan attention for its wistful melody.[17]Marketing and activities
The promotional campaign for AB6IX's debut studio album 6ixense began in mid-September 2019 with a structured teaser schedule released by the group's agency, Brand New Music. Individual member teaser images were unveiled daily from September 23 to 27, featuring Lim Young-min, Park Woo-jin, Lee Dae-hwi, Kim Dong-hyun, and Jeon Woong, respectively, followed by group teasers on September 28. The album artwork was revealed on September 30, the tracklist on October 1, the music video teaser for the title track "Blind for Love" on October 2, a highlight medley on October 3, and a choreography sneak peek on October 5.[16] These materials emphasized a mysterious, sensory-driven concept aligning with the album's title, building anticipation ahead of the October 7 release. On the day of the album's launch, October 7, 2019, AB6IX held a media showcase in Seoul, where they performed key tracks including "Be There," "Deep Inside," and "Blind for Love." During the event, the members discussed the album's diverse genres—ranging from deep house and hip-hop to R&B and ballads—and highlighted their contributions to songwriting and arrangement across all 11 tracks. The showcase also touched on the choreography for "Blind for Love," crafted by member Park Woo-jin, and future aspirations, underscoring the group's evolution from pre-debut projects. A related fan showcase sold out immediately, reflecting strong domestic interest.[20] Post-release activities included performances on major South Korean music programs, such as their comeback stage on M Countdown on October 10, 2019, and subsequent appearances that contributed to a music show win for "Blind for Love" on The Show on October 15, 2019.[21] To extend reach internationally, AB6IX featured on a remix of Lizzo's "Truth Hurts," released on September 24, 2019, which introduced their vocals to global audiences and marked an early cross-cultural collaboration. Promotion emphasized Asian markets, with initial focus on Korea before tour planning expanded regionally in late 2019 for shows starting in 2020.[22]Commercial performance

Critical reviews
Upon its release, 6ixense received limited coverage from international critics but garnered positive feedback from K-pop-focused outlets for its polished debut sound and vocal execution. HelloKpop highlighted the album's diverse genres in their comeback coverage.[11] Similarly, KPOPREVIEWED awarded it an 8.1/10, highlighting the group's strong vocal harmonies and rap delivery, particularly in later tracks like "Shadow" and "D.R.E.A.M.," which demonstrate debut-level polish and emotional depth through well-integrated instrumentation and member contributions.[13] Critics also pointed to some shortcomings, such as uneven EDM production that occasionally disrupts melodic flow, as seen in the heavy chorus of opener "Be There," and formulaic boy-group tropes in tracks like "Pretty" that feel predictable despite catchy choruses.[13] Certain songs, including "_And Me," were described as lacking memorable hooks amid solid R&B foundations, contributing to a sense of front-loaded weaker material before the album's stronger back half.[13] Fan reception was enthusiastic, with the album generating significant online buzz that propelled AB6IX to their first entry on Billboard's Social 50 chart at No. 30, fueled by a surge in social media engagement around teasers and the "Blind for Love" promotions.[1] This post-release trend underscored the group's growing connection with audiences, emphasizing catchy elements and harmonious performances that resonated in fan discussions. Commercially, 6ixense debuted at number two on South Korea's Gaon Album Chart for the week ending October 12, 2019.[23] It also reached number 25 on Japan's Oricon Albums Chart.Awards and achievements
