Early years

Childhood and family

Alexaundra Christine Schneiderman, known professionally as AleXa, was born on December 9, 1996, in , to a Russian-American father and a Korean mother who had been adopted from by an American family at the age of five. Her mother, originally from near , grew up with limited knowledge of her Korean roots after being adopted, which later influenced family discussions about heritage and identity. As the eldest of two siblings with a younger brother, Schneiderman experienced a close-knit family dynamic centered on her parents' support for her creative pursuits, though direct exposure to Korean traditions at home was minimal, limited to occasional elements like . Raised in a multicultural household in Tulsa, Schneiderman navigated a blend of American and Korean influences from an early age, fostering her dual cultural identity despite the challenges of her mother's adoptee background. This environment sparked her interest in performance, as she began taking dance classes at the age of two, developing a passion for movement that became a cornerstone of her early years. By around age 12 in 2008, she discovered K-pop, which introduced her to Korean music and culture more deeply and began shaping her artistic aspirations, though family visits to South Korea were not a primary factor in this exposure.

Education and training

AleXa attended in , where she graduated in 2015. During high school, she participated in and activities, including membership in competitive show choirs such as the Jenks Trojanaires and Jenks Varsity Pom. With family support rooted in her childhood exposure to Korean culture through her mother, AleXa relocated to in early 2018 at age 21 to train as a artist. There, she joined ZB Label and underwent approximately 18 months of rigorous training focused on vocal techniques, dance choreography, and proficiency to prepare for the demands of the industry. Prior to her move, AleXa had gained initial exposure through a successful audition for the online survival program Rising Legends in 2016, where she won in the dance category, along with early experiences in fan-voted survival formats.

Musical career

2016–2018: Rising Legends and

In 2016, under the stage name Alex Christine, Alexaundra Christine Schneiderman participated in the first season of Soompi's online audition program Rising Legends, a competition organized in partnership with that sought global talent for potential opportunities. She advanced to the finals and won the dancer category, showcasing her skills through cover performances that highlighted her dance training background. This exposure marked her initial entry into the ecosystem, drawing attention to her as a promising international contender despite not securing the overall grand prize. Building on this momentum, Christine returned for Rising Legends Season 2 in , where she competed against thousands of entrants from over 190 countries. Her performances, including a dance cover of miss A's "," resonated with global audiences, culminating in her crowning as the season's grand prize winner after garnering nearly one million fan votes. The victory earned her a five-day trip to for training and meetings with industry professionals, significantly boosting her visibility and leading to her signing with ZB Label, a subsidiary of Zanybros, in early 2018. Early media coverage during this period often emphasized her Korean-American heritage—born in to a Korean mother and Russian father—positioning her as a bridge between Western and cultures and helping cultivate an international fanbase. As a ZB Label trainee, Christine, now using her birth name in credits, joined Mnet's survival show Produce 48 in May 2018, competing alongside 95 other contestants from South Korea and Japan to form a multinational girl group. She performed in the opening group stage with a cover of the show's theme song "Pick Me," earning praise for her energy and stage presence as one of the few non-Asian heritage trainees. Despite strong fan support, particularly from international viewers drawn to her bilingual skills and unique background, she was eliminated in the first round at rank #82 during episode 5. In later reflections, she alleged vote manipulation by the show's producers contributed to her early exit, underscoring the intense competition and scrutiny faced by global aspirants. Following the show, ZB Label retained her for solo preparations, leveraging the visibility gained to focus on her individual artistry rather than group debut.

2019–2021: Debut, Do or Die and Decoherence

AleXa made her solo debut on October 21, 2019, with the digital single "Bomb" under ZB Label, marking the first release from the label founded by choreographer and producer Za:ion. The track featured a bold warrior imagery, portraying her as a powerful A.I. trooper in a cyberpunk-inspired music video that emphasized fierce choreography and explosive energy, blending EDM and pop elements to establish her as a "warrior-style girl crush" artist. The multilingual release, available in Korean and English versions, garnered attention for its high-concept visuals and debuted at number seven on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. Building on the hype from her Produce 48 appearance, AleXa released her first EP, Do or Die, on April 1, 2020, which included eight tracks such as the title song "Do or Die," "A.I Trooper," "Kitty Run," and a Korean version of "." The lead single "Do or Die" served as a dark, groovy continuation of her debut, incorporating , electro, and EDM influences to create a fight-song atmosphere centered on themes of determination and survival. The EP charted on the Gaon Album Chart, reflecting modest domestic success amid the early , and AleXa promoted it through performances on music shows including , , and The Show. On October 21, 2020, AleXa issued her second EP, Decoherence, featuring seven tracks led by "Villain" and "Revolution," which explored experimental sounds fusing EDM, pop, and aesthetics for an edgy, futuristic vibe. The album received positive for its bold visuals and innovative production, with reviewers praising the stark contrast in its high-energy tracks and AleXa's commanding presence as a unique force in . In 2021, she followed with the ReviveR on July 1, led by "Xtra," which deepened her A.I.-themed through a title symbolizing revival and further blended EDM-pop experimentation, enhancing her reputation for conceptual depth. Promotional efforts during this period adapted to restrictions, including her first online fan meeting in November 2020 and virtual concerts such as Ctrl+AleXa in 2020 and the AleXa Global Fan Party in 2021, which connected her with international audiences. These activities, alongside features in U.S. media like , fostered growing engagement from American fans, leveraging her roots and multilingual appeal to bridge K-pop's global reach.

Her Oklahoma roots, stemming from her childhood in the state, added a personal layer to her participation and appeal. "Wonderland" subsequently received significant U.S. radio , debuting at No. 38 on 's in May 2022 and marking AleXa's first entry on a ranking. Building on this momentum, AleXa released her first mini album, Girls Gone Vogue, on November 11, 2022, under ZB Label. The EP's title track, "Back in Vogue," embraced a bold fashion-inspired theme, drawing from iconic and early 2000s eras with empowering lyrics and stylish visuals that celebrated female confidence. Tracks like "STAR" (featuring of ) and "Endorphin" explored self-empowerment and energy, while the project included production collaborations emphasizing retro-futuristic sounds. In 2023, AleXa embarked on her Girls Gone Vogue Tour, headlining shows in select international markets, including , , and , , where performances fused high-energy choreography with cultural elements from her Korean-American background. She also joined the Jingle Ball Tour as the first female soloist, performing at sold-out venues across U.S. cities like New York, , , and in December, sharing stages with major pop acts and further integrating into American holiday concert traditions. These live outings highlighted her versatility, with sets incorporating hits from Girls Gone Vogue alongside earlier tracks, drawing diverse audiences and solidifying her cross-cultural appeal. Shifting to a more introspective tone, AleXa released the single "Juliet" on June 8, 2023, as a standalone track exploring themes of doomed romance and emotional farewell, inspired by Shakespeare's . The indie-alternative featured a dramatic build-up and heartfelt co-written by AleXa, contrasting her previous high-energy releases and signaling a maturation in her artistry. Accompanied by a cinematic depicting a tragic story, "Juliet" received praise for its vulnerability, contributing to sustained fan engagement amid her expanding U.S. activities. The period from 2022 to 2024 thus represented AleXa's pivotal push into international markets, underscored by competitive triumphs, chart milestones, and live expansions that elevated her from niche figure to broader pop contender.

2025–present: Sugarcoat, departure from ZB Label, rebranding to Kim Seri, and independent activities

In early 2025, AleXa released her first full-length , Sugarcoat, on March 7, marking her final project under ZB Label.
