Anita, Iowa
Anita is a city in Cass County, Iowa, United States, platted in 1869 and incorporated in 1875. The population was 963 at the 2020 census. Lake Anita State Park is located just outside the town.
A violent F5 tornado occurred just east of the town on June 27, 1953. One person was killed and two others were injured.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.70 square miles (4.40 km2), all land. Anita's motto is "A Whale of a Town."
As of the census of 2020, there were 963 people, 430 households, and 253 families residing in the city. The population density was 542.5 inhabitants per square mile (209.5/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 265.3 per square mile (102.5/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.2% White, 0.1% Black or African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.5% Pacific Islander, 0.4% from other races and 2.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino persons of any race comprised 0.7% of the population.
Of the 430 households, 24.4% of which had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.8% were married couples living together, 9.3% were cohabitating couples, 25.1% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present and 19.8% had a male householder with no spouse or partner present. 41.2% of all households were non-families. 36.3% of all households were made up of individuals, 15.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older.
The median age in the city was 45.7 years. 22.6% of the residents were under the age of 20; 3.4% were between the ages of 20 and 24; 22.3% were from 25 and 44; 24.9% were from 45 and 64; and 26.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.4% male and 51.6% female.
As of the census of 2010, there were 972 people, 427 households, and 266 families living in the city. The population density was 571.8 inhabitants per square mile (220.8/km2). There were 488 housing units at an average density of 287.1 per square mile (110.8/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 99.5% White, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 0.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.6% of the population.
