Early life
Danny Cashman was born on 8 January 2001 in Crawley, West Sussex, England.[4] Crawley, his hometown, is a town in West Sussex that hosts professional football club Crawley Town F.C., which competes in EFL League Two and has helped establish the area as a notable local hub for football development and community engagement.[5] Born and raised in Crawley, Cashman developed an early passion for football amid this local environment before joining the Brighton & Hove Albion academy at age 11.[6]Brighton & Hove Albion academy
Cashman joined the Brighton & Hove Albion academy in September 2012 at the age of 11.[7] He progressed through the club's youth ranks over the next nine years, developing his skills as a centre-forward while featuring in various under-age teams.[1] During this period, Cashman rose through the age groups and was appointed captain of the under-18 side, demonstrating leadership qualities in competitive youth fixtures.[3] In total, he made 49 appearances and scored 9 goals for the under-18 team, contributing to their development matches and tournaments.[8] He also transitioned to the under-23 development squad, where he recorded 44 appearances and 12 goals between 2019 and 2021, often playing in Premier League 2 and other reserve competitions.[8] Cashman's performances earned him recognition within the youth setup, including a shortlisting for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award in November 2019 after contributing to Brighton's strong scoring run in the division.[9] Earlier, in 2017, he was highlighted as one of the top emerging talents from Premier League academies in The Guardian's Next Generation series.[10] These highlights underscored his growth in tactical awareness and goal-scoring ability during intensive academy training focused on technical and physical development.[11] Cashman was released by Brighton in April 2021 and subsequently signed for Coventry City in August 2021.[12][13]Senior club career
Coventry City
Cashman signed his first professional contract with Coventry City in August 2021, joining the club on a three-year deal following his release from Brighton & Hove Albion's academy.[14] The 20-year-old forward was immediately loaned out to League Two side Rochdale for the 2021–22 season, marking the beginning of a pattern where he spent much of his tenure away from the Sky Blues' first team.[15] During his time at Coventry from 2021 to 2023, Cashman made no first-team appearances for the club, instead featuring primarily for the under-21 side and on subsequent loans.[14] Coventry City manager Mark Robins praised Cashman's potential in early 2022, describing him as a "decent player" with "loads of potential" but stressing the importance of gaining more match experience to develop further.[16] Cashman occasionally trained with the senior squad upon returns from loans, contributing to behind-the-scenes development efforts within the club's youth setup, though opportunities in the first team remained limited due to competition in the forward positions. Cashman's contract with Coventry City was mutually terminated in September 2023, a year ahead of its scheduled expiry, allowing him to pursue opportunities elsewhere.[17] This departure came after a series of loans arranged by the club, reflecting a focus on his growth through lower-league exposure rather than integration into the Championship squad.[18]Loan spells
Cashman's first senior loan came in August 2021 when he joined League Two side Rochdale on a season-long deal from Coventry City. During the 2021–22 campaign, he made 23 league appearances and scored two goals, contributing to a total of 29 outings and three goals across all competitions.[14] His debut goal arrived in the EFL Cup on 24 August 2021, a 2–0 victory over Shrewsbury Town, marking his first senior strike. In league play, Cashman netted his first on 11 September 2021, a late winner in a 1–0 home win against Tranmere Rovers, firing home from the edge of the box in the 84th minute.[19] His second league goal followed a week later on 18 September 2021, opening the scoring in a 1–1 draw at Mansfield Town with a composed finish in the 50th minute.[20] In September 2022, Cashman moved to another League Two club, Walsall, on loan until the end of the 2022–23 season.[14] He featured in seven league matches without scoring, accumulating 10 appearances overall and providing two assists in draws against Sutton United and Colchester United.[21] The loan was cut short in January 2023, with Walsall manager Mat Sadler noting Cashman's versatility but limited opportunities due to squad competition. Cashman's final loan of the period saw him join National League side Altrincham in January 2023 for the remainder of the season.[22] He made seven appearances without finding the net, often deployed as an attacking midfielder.[23] The spell ended prematurely in March 2023 when Coventry recalled him, with Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson praising his work rate but highlighting the need for more clinical finishing.[24] These loans provided Cashman with his initial exposure to senior football, though he faced adaptation challenges including inconsistent playing time and the pressure of performing in competitive environments away from Coventry's youth setup.[25] Early promise at Rochdale, where his goals showcased his finishing ability, contrasted with subdued contributions at Walsall and Altrincham, where managers emphasized his potential but noted difficulties in securing a regular starting role amid tactical adjustments.[26] This period ultimately honed his professional resilience, paving the way for a more settled role at Worthing.Worthing
Cashman joined Worthing on a permanent basis on 4 September 2023, following the mutual termination of his contract with Coventry City.[18] During his time at Worthing in the National League South, Cashman made 84 appearances and scored 29 goals across two seasons.[8] In the 2023–24 season, his debut campaign, Cashman netted 14 league goals in 39 appearances, contributing significantly to Worthing's run to the National League South play-off final, where they were defeated 3–4 by Braintree Town after extra time.[27][28] His overall tally of 16 goals that season included strikes in cup competitions, highlighting his adaptation to regular senior football in non-league.[29] The 2024–25 season marked Cashman's most prolific period at the club, where he scored 15 league goals in 45 appearances, helping Worthing secure a play-off spot once again. However, they were eliminated in the play-off eliminator by Maidstone United with a 0–2 defeat.[30][31] Notable performances included an "outrageous" 80-yard lobbed winner in a 1–0 victory over Hampton & Richmond Borough on 3 September 2024, and a brace in a 4–2 home win against Torquay United in August 2024.[32][33] His total of 20 goals that year, including cup ties, earned him a place in the National League South Team of the Season.[34][35] In May 2025, Cashman declined a new contract offer from Worthing to pursue opportunities at a higher level of the game.[36][37]Crawley Town
On 19 June 2025, Danny Cashman signed a two-year contract with Crawley Town, his hometown club in League Two, joining on a free transfer following the expiry of his previous deal.[4] The 24-year-old forward expressed immense excitement about the move, stating, "I am over the moon to join Crawley Town. Being from Crawley myself, I have supported and followed the club for a long time... when the opportunity came about it was one I could not turn down."[4] This return to his birthplace carried significant emotional weight, marking a homecoming after years away in various leagues.[4] Cashman has quickly integrated into the Crawley squad as a centre-forward, providing pace and directness in attack during the 2025–26 League Two season.[1] As of 16 November 2025, he has made five appearances, starting three and accumulating 297 minutes on the pitch, though he is yet to score or assist.[38] His role has involved contributing to the team's pressing game and linking play from midfield, helping Crawley maintain a competitive position mid-table.[39] Looking ahead, Cashman's contract runs until June 2027, offering stability as he aims to establish himself in the Football League and contribute to the club's promotion push.[4] Manager Scott Lindsey has praised his work ethic and potential impact, noting his adaptation to professional demands.[40]International career
England U16
Danny Cashman earned his first call-up to the England under-16 national team in August 2016, selected on the basis of his performances in the Brighton & Hove Albion academy.[10] He featured in a friendly double-header against Romania, entering as a substitute in both the opening 3-1 win (4-3 on penalties) and the return fixture, a 1-2 defeat (2-5 on penalties).[41] In February 2017, Cashman participated in the UEFA Development Tournament at St. George's Park, starting both group-stage matches.[41] He scored once in the 4-0 victory over Finland on 15 February and played the full match in the 3-1 win against Italy five days later, helping England secure the tournament title.[41] Cashman's U16 appearances in April 2017 came at the Tournoi de Montaigu in France, where he substituted in during a 0-3 group-stage loss to Portugal on 13 April. He also started in the 9th-place play-off, a 0-4 defeat to Belgium on 17 April.[41] Across six caps, he recorded one goal and contributed to training camps focused on tactical development and international exposure during this foundational youth phase.[41] This period laid the groundwork for his subsequent progression to the under-17 squad.[7]England U17
Danny Cashman earned his first call-ups to the England under-17 team during the 2017–18 season, reflecting his promising form in the Brighton & Hove Albion academy.[1] He was included in the squad for the St. George's Park International Tournament in August 2017, a series of friendlies against Turkey, Scotland, and Italy.[42] Cashman made two appearances during the tournament, totaling 112 minutes on the pitch without scoring. He came on as a substitute for 32 minutes in the 3–2 victory over Turkey on 18 August and started in the 2–1 win against Scotland on 20 August, playing 80 minutes before being substituted. In the final match, a 1–2 defeat to Italy on 22 August, he remained an unused substitute.[43][44] Although named to the broader England U17 squad for the 2017–18 campaign, Cashman did not feature in any further matches, including UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifiers.[45] His youth international eligibility ended after the 2018 season, with no subsequent call-ups as he transitioned to senior club football.[1]Career statistics
