Early life

Birth and youth

Dimo André Wache was born on November 1, 1973, in Brake (Unterweser), Lower Saxony, West Germany. He began his youth career at local clubs in the Brake area, starting with SC Ovelgönne until June 1986, followed by VfL Brake from July 1986 to June 1988, VfB Oldenburg from July 1988 to June 1990, and Bayer Leverkusen from July 1990 to June 1992. Little is publicly documented about his early childhood or family background.

Playing career

Youth and early professional clubs

Dimo Wache began his youth football career in 1988 with VfL Brake, where he developed as a goalkeeper until 1990. He subsequently joined the U19 team at Bayer Leverkusen, spending the next two years (1990–1992) in their youth academy and continuing to hone his skills in the position. In 1992, Wache moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach's youth system, remaining there until 1995 without making any senior team appearances for the club. This period of progression through various German youth setups helped shape his early development as a goalkeeper before his transfer to 1. FSV Mainz 05 in 1995.

1. FSV Mainz 05

Dimo Wache joined 1. FSV Mainz 05 in July 1995 and remained with the club until June 2010, completing a 15-year tenure as a goalkeeper. He became one of the club's most enduring figures, making 378 total appearances across all competitions during this period, with the vast majority as a starter. His contributions spanned 276 matches in the 2. Bundesliga, 74 in the Bundesliga, and 28 in the DFB-Pokal. In Bundesliga matches, Wache kept 12 clean sheets while conceding 112 goals across his 74 appearances. Wache's time at Mainz coincided with the club's ascent, including promotion to the Bundesliga after finishing third in the 2. Bundesliga in the 2003–04 season, followed by top-flight participation. Although the club secured no major trophies during his tenure, he provided consistent goalkeeping stability across multiple divisions before retiring from professional play in 2010.

International career

Germany U21

Dimo Wache was a former international for the Germany under-21 national team. His representation at youth international level remained limited, with details on specific appearances not widely documented across sources. He received no call-ups to the senior Germany national team and earned no caps at that level.

Coaching career

SV Darmstadt 98

Dimo Wache served as goalkeeping coach at SV Darmstadt 98 from January 2013 until April 2025. He initially assumed the role on an interim basis from the start of winter training on 2 January 2013 before signing a permanent contract through the end of the 2013–14 season. Over the course of more than twelve years, Wache significantly shaped the club's goalkeeping department and contributed to the development of numerous Lilien goalkeepers, including Jan Zimmermann, Christian Mathenia, Michael Esser, Daniel Heuer Fernandes, and Marcel Schuhen. His work proved instrumental in many of the club's successes and helped establish SV Darmstadt 98's reputation as a leading destination for goalkeeper development across Germany. On 9 April 2025, the club announced that Wache and SV Darmstadt 98 had mutually agreed to end their collaboration. President Rüdiger Fritsch thanked Wache for his successful contributions over twelve years, noting that he had decisively shaped the club and that the doors of SV 98 would remain open to him as a friend, while wishing him well for the future.

Personal life

Later activities and departure from Darmstadt

In April 2025, Dimo Wache and SV Darmstadt 98 mutually agreed to end their collaboration after more than twelve years, with the club announcing the termination on 9 April 2025. Wache had been with the club since January 2013, and the decision was described by the club as amicable, with thanks expressed for his contributions and the doors kept open for him in the future. In an interview shortly after his departure, Wache addressed the circumstances surrounding his exit, rejecting media portrayals suggesting serious ongoing health issues and clarifying that he had informed the club in March 2025 of his fitness to return following a knee problem. He expressed disappointment with how events unfolded but chose not to extend his contract without working, and he voiced a clear desire to remain active in professional football and return to training-ground duties. As of the latest available reports, he remains without a club. Wache is a German citizen, born on 1 November 1973 in Brake, Lower Saxony. During his playing career he stood 1.94 m tall and weighed approximately 90 kg. He has an IMDb entry that includes his birth details and lists several guest appearances as himself on German television programs such as Flutlicht, Volle Kanne, and Sportschau, but there are no credits indicating any professional involvement in film or television acting or production.
