"Envolver"[A] is a song by Brazilian singer Anitta from her fifth studio album Versions of Me. It was released as the fourth single from the album through Warner Records on 11 November 2021.[2] "Envolver" is a reggaeton song that hints to desiring a sexual relationship in a casual way, the lyrics incorporate several sexual innuendos and double entendres. A remix of the song featuring American singer Justin Quiles was released on 17 February 2022.[3]
The song and its music video, self-directed by Anitta, went viral in March 2022, after it gained popularity on TikTok, where its "booty-grinding" dance became one of the most replicated. "Envolver" broke a string of records, including the first solo Latin song to reach the top of the Spotify Global Daily chart, which earned Anitta an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.[4]
Commercially, the song achieved international success in Latin America and became Anitta's most charted song to date. With "Envolver", Anitta had her highest entries on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., at numbers two and one, respectively.[5] The song also reached number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart issue dated April 16, 2022, becoming Anitta's highest career peak, and peaked at number one in the Billboard Brazil Songs chart.
In August 2022, Rolling Stone named "Envolver" the 81st best reggaeton song of all time.[6] That same month, the song won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Latin, making her the first Brazilian solo artist to win in the awards' history.[7]
Background
[edit]On 8 November 2021, Anitta released a teaser of the song through her social media.[8] On the following days, the single cover art and a small snippet of the music video were also revealed.[9] The self-directed music video of "Envolver" was released along with the song on November 11. It features Anitta dancing sensually with Moroccan dancer and model Ayoub Mutanda.[10]
A remix featuring American singer Justin Quiles was released on February 17, 2022.[3]
Commercial performance
[edit]Following its release, "Envolver" broke a string of records. It became the first Latin solo song to reach the top position of the Spotify Global Daily chart, which earned Anitta an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.[4] It was noted that other Latin songs that had previously reached the number one position ("Despacito", "Mi Gente", "Dákiti", "Havana" and "Señorita") were all collaborations between two or more artists.
"Envolver" also became the most streamed song in a single-day in Spotify in 2022 (7.278 million streams) at the time, biggest streaming day for a female Latin song, as well as the first song by a Brazilian artist to reach the top of the Spotify Global Daily chart.[11][12] Additionally it also became the first song ever to place inside the top 50 of all Latin countries on Spotify. It also broke the record for most one-day streams in Brazil with over 4.5 million plays, a record that was previously held by herself with "Vai Malandra" (2.1 million streams).[13]
Commercially, the song achieved international success and became Anitta's most charted song to date. "Envolver" became Anitta's highest entries on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., at numbers two and one, respectively.[5] The song also reached number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart issue dated 16 April 2022, becoming Anitta's second entry overall on the chart, first entry as a soloist and her highest career peak at the time.
"Envolver" also peaked at number one in the Billboard Brazil Songs chart, and number six on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart. The song has also peaked within the top ten in the charts of several countries, such as Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Panama, Peru, Portugal and Puerto Rico, and debuted in the charts of twenty others, including Argentina, Canada, El Salvador, France, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.

Envolver
View on GrokipediaBackground and development
Conception and recording
"Envolver" marked a pivotal step in Anitta's strategy to expand her global presence, as she intentionally crafted the track as a reggaeton song entirely in Spanish, her first such single, to connect more deeply with Latin American and international audiences beyond her Brazilian roots.[10] This decision aligned with her broader artistic evolution during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she explored multiple facets of her identity through multilingual music as part of her fifth studio album, Versions of Me.[11] The song was conceived and written in less than a day during a working vacation at the Sanctuary Cap Cana resort in the Dominican Republic in October 2021. Anitta collaborated on the lyrics and beat with the Puerto Rican production duo Súbelo NEO, incorporating classic dembow rhythms central to reggaeton alongside subtle electronic elements for a modern edge. Full songwriting credits include Anitta (Larissa de Macedo Machado), Freddy Montalvo, José Carlos Cruz, and Julio M. González Tavárez, reflecting a blend of her vision and Latin production expertise.[12][13] Recording took place in a makeshift studio within the resort's Terrace Tower Suite in October 2021, integrating the creative process with video production and leisure, which allowed for an organic, immersive environment. Anitta self-directed the initial music video concept during these sessions, drawing directly from the song's sensual, intimate themes to capture its raw energy on location with friends, family, and producers present. Despite suggestions from Warner Music Latina to feature a male collaborator, Anitta insisted on releasing it as a solo track, confident in its standalone appeal: "I was so sure that it was going to be big."[12]Promotion and release
A teaser for "Envolver" was released by Anitta on November 8, 2021, across her social media accounts, where she announced the upcoming release date and shared snippets of the chorus to generate anticipation among fans.[14][15] The track officially premiered on November 11, 2021, as the fourth single from her fifth studio album Versions of Me, distributed through Warner Records.[10][16][1] Promotion efforts emphasized digital platforms, with an initial focus on TikTok to inspire user-generated content through challenges and shares.[17] Despite its position in the album sequence, "Envolver" was highlighted as Anitta's lead international single to broaden her global reach.[10] To further expand its appeal in Latin markets, a remix featuring Puerto Rican singer Justin Quiles was issued on February 17, 2022.[18][19] This version incorporated reggaeton elements tailored for regional audiences.[20] The song's promotional momentum contributed to a viral TikTok dance trend that emerged in March 2022, amplifying its visibility worldwide.[17]Music and lyrics
Genre and composition
"Envolver" is a reggaeton song featuring a signature dembow rhythm at 92 beats per minute.[21] The track incorporates influences from Brazilian funk carioca, rooted in Anitta's early career, alongside Latin pop elements that contribute to its infectious, danceable energy.[22][23] The song employs a verse-chorus form, structured with verses, pre-choruses, choruses, a bridge, and an outro, spanning a duration of 3:13.[24] Its production, handled by Subelo NEO, emphasizes synth-driven layers, deep bass lines, and electronic accents to heighten the rhythmic drive.[24] Set in E minor, "Envolver" highlights perreo rhythms—intimate, grinding dance styles central to reggaeton—paired with auto-tuned vocals and a sparse arrangement that prioritizes groove and movement over dense orchestration.[21][24] The song was written by Anitta (Larissa de Macedo Machado), Freddy Montalvo, José Carlos Cruz, Cristian Andrés Salazar, and Julio Manuel González Tavárez.[24] Relative to Anitta's prior releases, which largely featured Portuguese lyrics tied to her funk carioca origins, "Envolver" represents a deliberate pivot to Spanish-language material, fostering a more expansive global Latin sound.[25]Themes and lyrics
The lyrics of "Envolver" are entirely in Spanish and center on themes of seduction and intimacy, portraying a mutual attraction between two individuals where the narrator expresses a desire for physical closeness. Key phrases such as "Me quiero envolver en tu cuerpo" ("I want to wrap myself in your body") emphasize a sensual entanglement, using double entendres to suggest both emotional and carnal union.[3] At its core, the song promotes female empowerment through sexual agency, with the protagonist confidently asserting her desires without apology, as in lines that describe using dance and touch to captivate her partner. This narrative reclaims erotic expression in reggaeton, drawing from perreo culture's traditions of close, rhythmic grinding that evoke passion and control.[26] The song's bold explicitness has been praised for advancing explicit sensuality in Latin music, challenging norms around female sexuality while celebrating unapologetic allure.[26]Music video
Production
The "Envolver" music video was self-directed by Anitta, featuring significant creative input from and starring Moroccan dancer and model Ayoub Mutanda in the choreography emphasizing sensual hip movements.[27] Filmed in Los Angeles in late 2021, the production adopted a low-key approach to capture the song's intimate and seductive vibe, utilizing neon lighting and close-up shots in confined sets.[10] The overall crew, including producer Harold Jiménez, navigated challenges such as incorporating TikTok-friendly dance elements under lingering pandemic restrictions that limited on-set interactions.[27] The video premiered on YouTube on November 11, 2021, aligning with the single's release date.Synopsis and choreography
The music video for "Envolver" presents a dual narrative exploring themes of desire and fantasy, alternating between scenes of Anitta alone in a dimly lit room, where she gazes longingly and performs solo dance sequences evoking emotional envelopment, and intimate encounters with a male partner in a dream-like setting, symbolizing seduction and physical connection.[10][28] Key scenes include Anitta's contemplative solitude intercut with provocative interactions, such as her wrapping around the partner in close embraces that highlight bodily entanglement and mutual attraction.[10] The choreography emphasizes sensual, rhythmic movements designed to mirror the song's lyrics on enveloping passion, featuring Anitta and a male dancer in minimal attire executing hip isolations, fluid body rolls, and synchronized mirroring that builds tension through proximity and touch. This viral routine, particularly the signature TikTok challenge involving a slow-motion plank-like pose with hip gyrations, has been replicated globally, amplifying the video's reach.[29][30] Visual motifs underscore the transition from restraint to release, with close-up shots capturing the partners' entangled forms and subtle skin contact to convey intimacy, while colorful filters in the dream sequences shift to more subdued, almost monochromatic tones in the reality segments for emotional depth.[28] The video, self-directed by Anitta, has amassed over 850 million views on YouTube as of November 2025, with its choreography widely credited for driving the song's viral success on social media platforms.[1]Critical reception

The song's chart run highlighted its enduring popularity, with extended time spent in the top 10 on the Spotify Global chart, bolstered by consistent streaming performance exceeding hundreds of millions of plays worldwide.[38] This success significantly boosted Anitta's subsequent releases, paving the way for her album Versions of Me to debut at number 14 on the Billboard 200—her highest position on the chart to date.Live performances
