Ever is a restaurant in Chicago, Illinois, United States.[1] Established in July 2020,[2] the restaurant earned two Michelin stars in the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 Michelin Guides.[3][4][5][6][7]
Key Information
The restaurant is co-owned by chef Curtis Duffy and his business partner Michael Muser, respectively former head chef and general manager at Grace, a 3-star Michelin restaurant that was abruptly closed in December 2017 after the duo's offer to buy the restaurant was rejected by its investor-owner.[8]
Fictionalized version in The Bear
[edit]A fictionalized version of Ever, filmed in the actual restaurant but shown to have a different and significantly longer history, was featured in the TV series The Bear during the second-season episode "Forks".[9] Ever also featured prominently in the season-three finale "Forever."[10] As described in a rundown of all the Chicago restaurants featured on The Bear through season four:[11]
This fine-dining spot is like the sea in The Old Man and the Sea, or all the appliances in The Brave Little Toaster. It's a metaphor. It's not actually Ever, more of an amalgamation of several fine-dining restaurants. Yes, the chef's jacket and the tickets say Ever, and they serve the signature frozen hamachi (which is delicious). But Ever is in the West Loop and opened in 2020, and as far as we know, Olivia Colman doesn't work there. Faux Ever represents all of Chicago's Michelin-starred restaurants.[11]
The fictionalized Ever, now closed in-universe, was led by British chef Andrea Terry (Olivia Colman) and had three Michelin stars. Co-owner Duffy told ABC 7 news, "We were featured. The food...was Ever's, the plating...All of that was done by myself and the team. They got those scenes from us, from emulating us, because the amount of detail that we put in everything every single day from the moment we get here to the moment we leave is...very much true to what that storyline is."[12] Following the release of season three, Duffy released a statement that "I was honored to host so many of my peers from across the nation for these memorable scenes...We hope fans of the show realize that the writers have taken some liberties with this episode, and that the real Ever is open for business and thriving." As of 2024, the wait list for reservations at the real Ever was three months long.[13]
