View on GrokipediaEarly life and background
Birth and family
Faride Alidou was born on 18 July 2001 in Hamburg, Germany.[4][5] His parents are of Togolese descent, which grants him eligibility to represent either Germany or Togo at the international level due to his German birthright citizenship and ancestral ties.[6][7]Introduction to football
Faride Alidou, born in Hamburg to parents of Togolese descent, developed an early interest in football within the city's vibrant local scene. He began his youth playing career with the district club Einigkeit Wilhelmsburg, where he honed his skills as a young talent in the Hamburg area.[8][7] In the summer of 2012, at the age of 11, Alidou joined the Hamburger SV youth academy, marking a significant step in his development. This move from Einigkeit Wilhelmsburg allowed him to enter a professional club's structured training environment, where he quickly adapted to higher levels of competition.[8][6] Alidou progressed steadily through the HSV youth ranks, passing through all the junior teams from U12 to U19. A standout performance came during the 2017-18 season with the U17 side, where he scored seven goals in just 11 matches, demonstrating his speed, dribbling ability, and goal-scoring prowess on the left wing. This period solidified his reputation as a promising prospect within the academy.[8][6]Club career
Hamburger SV
Faride Alidou, a product of Hamburger SV's youth academy, signed his first professional contract with the club in 2020.[1] He made his senior debut for Hamburger SV in the 2. Bundesliga on 16 October 2021, substituting in the 63rd minute during a 1–1 home draw with Fortuna Düsseldorf.[9] Alidou gradually earned more playing time under coach Tim Walter, contributing to the team's promotion push in the 2021–22 season.[6] He made 23 appearances in the league that year, scoring 2 goals and recording 7 assists.[10] His first senior goal arrived on 20 November 2021 in a 4–1 victory over SSV Jahn Regensburg, where he equalized with a right-footed finish in the 45th minute after a quick counter-attack.[11] Eight days later, Alidou opened the scoring in the 12th minute with another right-footed strike during a 3–0 win against FC Ingolstadt 04, helping secure Hamburger SV's position in the promotion playoff spots.[11] These moments showcased his pace, dribbling ability, and directness on the left wing, drawing interest from higher divisions.[12] On 23 March 2022, Hamburger SV announced that Alidou would depart on a free transfer to join Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the season, signing a four-year deal effective from summer 2022.[8]Eintracht Frankfurt
Faride Alidou joined Eintracht Frankfurt on 1 July 2022, arriving as a free transfer from Hamburger SV and signing a contract until 30 June 2026.[7][8][13] He made his Bundesliga debut later that month, entering as a substitute in the 75th minute during a 1–6 home defeat to Bayern Munich on 5 August 2022.[14][15] Alidou's integration into the first team was gradual amid stiff competition for attacking positions. In the 2022–23 season, he recorded 15 substitute appearances in the Bundesliga, totaling 169 minutes played with one assist but no goals, alongside five outings in the UEFA Champions League where he scored once.[16][2] His limited minutes reflected the depth in Eintracht's wide roles, with established players like Filip Kostić and Jesper Lindstrøm ahead in the pecking order.[17] The 2023–24 campaign brought similarly restricted opportunities at Frankfurt, where Alidou did not feature in any Bundesliga matches before being loaned out in August 2023. To secure more consistent playing time and further development, the club arranged another loan move in 2024.[17][18]1. FC Köln (loan)
In August 2023, Faride Alidou joined 1. FC Köln on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt until the end of the 2023–24 season, seeking more playing time after limited opportunities at his parent club.[17] Alidou made his debut for Köln on 3 September 2023, coming on as a substitute in a 1–1 draw against his former club Eintracht Frankfurt, where he played 33 minutes.[19] Over the course of the season, he featured in 26 Bundesliga matches, primarily as a right winger but also in other forward roles, scoring 4 goals and providing no assists.[20] His goals included a strike in a 1–1 draw at VfL Wolfsburg on 27 January 2024, the winner in a 2–0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on 3 February 2024—which also saw him involved in a red card to an opponent—and a brace in a 3–3 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach on 9 March 2024.[19] These contributions proved vital during Köln's intense relegation battle, as the team sat in 16th place and relied on every point to avoid direct demotion.[21] Alidou's timely goals, particularly the brace against Mönchengladbach and the win over Frankfurt, helped secure crucial results that boosted team morale and added to Köln's tally of 15 points from the first 20 matches, though the club ultimately finished 18th and was relegated to the 2. Bundesliga.[21] The loan spell offered Alidou valuable experience in a high-pressure environment, with increased starts under coach Timo Schultz enhancing his development as a versatile attacker.[21] Alidou returned to Eintracht Frankfurt at the conclusion of the loan in summer 2024.[1]Hellas Verona (loan)
On 25 August 2024, Faride Alidou joined Hellas Verona on a season-long loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, with the Serie A club holding an option to purchase his contract for €4 million at the end of the term.[22][23] The move was intended to provide the 23-year-old German forward with his first experience in Italian football, following a previous loan spell at 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga.[18] In the 2024–25 Serie A season, Alidou featured sparingly for Hellas Verona, making three substitute appearances and totaling 68 minutes on the pitch.[24] He did not score any goals or record assists during this period, with his limited involvement attributed to the competitive depth in the team's attacking options and an unspecified muscle injury that sidelined him for several weeks in the autumn.[25][24] The loan agreement was mutually terminated early on 23 January 2025, enabling Alidou to return to Eintracht Frankfurt and facilitating a subsequent permanent transfer.[26][27] Hellas Verona expressed well-wishes for his future career in their official statement on the departure.[26]1. FC Kaiserslautern
On 23 January 2025, Faride Alidou's loan spell at Hellas Verona was terminated early, allowing him to complete a permanent transfer to 1. FC Kaiserslautern from Eintracht Frankfurt for an undisclosed fee. He signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2026, marking his return to German football after a brief stint in Italy.[1][27][28] Alidou quickly integrated into Kaiserslautern's 2. Bundesliga squad, primarily deployed as a substitute during the second half of the 2024-25 season. In 12 appearances totaling 242 minutes, he recorded 1 assist but no goals, contributing to the team's efforts with his pace and direct runs on the left wing. His energy off the bench helped stabilize the attack in several matches, aiding Kaiserslautern's push toward a mid-table finish in the league.[3][10] As of November 2025, Alidou has become a more regular starter in the 2025-26 season, featuring in 8 matches with 4 starts and accumulating 358 minutes. He has scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist, showcasing his role as a dynamic left winger who stretches defenses and creates opportunities through dribbling and crosses. His contributions have supported Kaiserslautern's solid mid-table position, currently 7th in the 2. Bundesliga standings, as the team aims to build momentum without mounting a strong promotion challenge.[29][3][30][31]International career
Under-20
Faride Alidou received his first call-up to the Germany U20 national team in November 2021 for a pair of international friendlies, marking his initial foray into youth international football.[32][6] Alidou made his debut on 11 November 2021 against France U20 in Marbella, Spain, where he came off the bench and scored Germany's third goal in a 3–2 victory, contributing to the team's attacking momentum in the second half.[33][6] Four days later, on 15 November 2021, he featured in the subsequent friendly against Portugal U20 in Leiria, helping secure a 1–1 draw as Germany maintained an unbeaten record during the window.[33][34] These two appearances, in which Alidou recorded one goal, represented his complete involvement at the U20 level, as he transitioned to higher youth categories by 2022 in line with age eligibility.[33] Primarily deployed as a right winger, Alidou's role in these matches emphasized his pace and directness on the flank, providing width and penetration in Germany's youth setup during the early stages of his international development.[6] His contributions in the friendlies highlighted his potential as an emerging talent, though no further U20 opportunities arose before the end of his eligibility period around 2021–22.[32]Under-21
Faride Alidou received his first call-up to the Germany U21 national team in March 2022, ahead of UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers against Latvia and Israel, following injuries to several squad members.[8] He made his debut as a substitute in the 4–0 victory over Latvia on 25 March, playing the final 28 minutes on the left wing.[35] Alidou went on to earn 10 caps for the U21 side between 2022 and 2023, primarily featuring as a substitute in his early appearances.[35] During the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers, Alidou contributed significantly in key fixtures, starting in the 4–0 home win against Hungary on 3 June 2022, where he assisted Germany's third goal (by T. Krauß) in the 76th minute and played 81 minutes before being substituted. He also started against Poland four days later in a 1–2 away defeat, logging 82 minutes on the left wing.[35][36] Substitute appearances in qualifiers included against Israel (0–1 loss), helping Germany top Group B and qualify for the finals.[35] Alidou's U21 involvement extended to friendlies and the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Georgia and Romania. In September 2022, he appeared in losses to France (0–1) and a win over England (3–1), playing 64 and 16 minutes respectively as a left winger.[35] March 2023 friendlies saw him feature against Japan (2–2 draw, 72 minutes on the right wing) and Romania (0–0 draw, 15 minutes).[35][37][38] At the finals, he substituted in the group stage, playing 45 minutes in the 1–2 loss to Czech Republic on 25 June and 22 minutes in the 0–2 loss to England on 28 June, as Germany exited in the group phase.[35][39][40] Throughout his U21 tenure under coach Antonio Di Salvo, Alidou was deployed predominantly as a left winger, valued for his pace and directness in wide areas, recording no goals in his 10 caps as of November 2025.[35] His standout moment remained his U20 goal on debut, which highlighted his potential in international youth football.Professional profile
Style of play
Faride Alidou primarily operates as a left winger, standing at 1.86 meters tall and favoring his right foot, which allows him to deploy an inverted style by cutting inside from the flank to create scoring opportunities or deliver crosses.[1] This tactical preference emphasizes his ability to exploit spaces centrally with his stronger foot.[6] Alidou's strengths lie in his technical prowess and flair on the ball, particularly his strong dribbling ability, which enables him to beat defenders through quick changes of direction and maintain possession under pressure.[41] He also excels at playing long balls to switch the point of attack and demonstrates solid finishing when arriving in the box, often getting fouled due to his direct approach against tight marking.[41] His playing style is marked by unpredictability and cheekiness, incorporating feints and bold runs that keep opponents guessing, complemented by impressive speed—reaching a top velocity of 33.81 km/h during matches.[42][29] For instance, during his loan spell at 1. FC Köln in the Bundesliga, Alidou showcased his dribbling in high-stakes games, completing several successful take-ons to advance play.[7] On the defensive end, Alidou shows limited involvement, rarely diving into tackles and contributing minimally to aerial duels, which can expose his side during transitions.[41] Over his senior career, his style has evolved from a raw, youth-influenced attacker focused on individual flair to a more team-oriented winger who balances creativity with positional discipline in professional setups like the 2. Bundesliga.[6]Club career statistics
