Donald Theetge is a Canadian professional stock car racing driver known for his extensive career in regional and national stock car series, particularly the NASCAR Canada Series, where he has competed part-time and full-time with his own team. Born on October 3, 1966, Theetge has been active in stock car racing for more than three decades, securing two championships in the ACT Series and building a reputation as a veteran competitor in Canadian motorsports. He made his NASCAR Canada Series debut in 2011 and has run with 22 Racing in various capacities, including full-time efforts in select seasons and partnerships for races in series such as the ARCA Menards Series East. As the leader of Theetge Motorsports, he has also appeared as himself in NASCAR television coverage on NBC and Fox networks. His career highlights include strong performances in late model and touring series competition across North America.

Early life

Background and introduction to racing

Donald Theetge is a Canadian stock car racing driver born on October 3, 1966, in Quebec. He hails from Boischatel, Quebec, where he resides. Theetge discovered motorsports at a young age by accompanying his father to racetracks across Québec and the northeastern United States, often spending weekends traveling in a small motorhome to attend races. “We spent our weekends in a small motorhome going to races. That’s how I started loving it,” he later recalled of these early experiences that sparked his lifelong passion for the sport. This formative exposure to racing through family laid the groundwork for his involvement in stock car competition, a career that has spanned more than 30 years. He has a brother, Benoit Theetge, with whom he has shared racing experiences in road racing events.

Racing career

Pre-NASCAR regional series

Donald Theetge achieved considerable success in Quebec's regional stock car series during the mid-2000s. He captured the Série IMAX LMS Québec championship in 2004. He followed that by winning the Série nationale Castrol LMS Québec title in 2006. Theetge continued his dominance in Quebec circuits by securing the Quebec ACT Series championship in 2009, where he overcame challenges including a late-season wreck but prevailed by a single point after a dramatic finale at Autodrome St. Eustache. Across his campaigns in the ACT and Castrol series, Theetge amassed more than twenty victories in events held throughout Quebec and the United States. He earned two wins in the US-based ACT Tour Series at Circuit Riverside Speedway Ste-Croix, one each in 2006 and 2007. In addition to his oval racing pursuits, Theetge ventured into road racing with his brother Benoit in the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. The brothers finished on the podium with a third-place result at Daytona International Speedway in 2010. This marked a notable achievement outside traditional stock car competition before his transition to national series involvement in 2011.

CASCAR Super Series

Donald Theetge entered national-level stock car competition in 2000 with eight starts in the CASCAR Eastern Series. From 2001 to 2003, he competed in the CASCAR Super Series, making a total of 12 starts across those three seasons. In 2001, Theetge finished 21st in the points standings, recording his best result of the year with an eighth-place finish at Toronto. He placed 65th in points in 2002. In 2003, Theetge improved to 23rd in the final points standings, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at Toronto that marked his best Super Series result. During his CASCAR Super Series tenure, he accumulated one top-five finish and two top-ten finishes overall.

NASCAR Canada Series

Donald Theetge made his NASCAR Canada Series debut in 2011 at the GP3R 100 on Circuit Trois-Rivières. He raced part-time in the series during the 2016 and 2017 seasons before embarking on his first full-time campaign in 2018 with 22 Racing. That season proved a breakthrough, as he secured his first series victory in Race 1 of the Velocity Prairie Thunder Twin 125s at Sutherland Automotive Speedway. Theetge has since competed primarily for his own Group Theetge team, driving the No. 73 or No. 80 Chevrolet with crew chief Martin Roy. Across his NASCAR Canada Series career, he has started 80 races, recording 3 wins, 53 top-ten finishes, and 8 poles, with his best championship finish of 5th coming in 2020. In 2025, Theetge ran a partial schedule of 8 starts, earning 5 top-five finishes, 6 top-ten finishes, and 3 poles. His wins that year came at Delaware Speedway, where he took victory in both races of the Delaware Doubleheader.

Limited starts in other NASCAR series

Donald Theetge made six starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series from 2018 to 2020, all with DGM Racing driving Chevrolet entries. He competed primarily in the No. 90 car, with one appearance in the No. 36, and achieved no wins, top-10 finishes, or pole positions across his efforts. His best championship standing in the series came in 2020 with a 66th-place finish in points. Notable results included a 33rd-place finish in his debut at the 2018 Lakes Region 200 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and a 25th-place result at Phoenix later that year. In 2022, Theetge competed in three races in the ARCA Menards Series East with Visconti Motorsports, piloting the No. 74 Toyota. He finished 5th in his series debut at New Smyrna Speedway, followed by a 9th-place result and an 8th-place finish in his other starts. These efforts placed him 18th in the season points standings.

Team ownership

Founding and operation of Group Theetge

Donald Theetge founded Theetge 80 Inc. in 2022 as his own racing team after analyzing his NASCAR Pinty's Series career and deciding with his crew to launch an independent operation. The team began operations by acquiring a new Chevrolet from McColl Racing to compete in the NASCAR Canada Series (then known as the Pinty's Series), initially focusing on select oval races. Subsequent seasons saw the team continue as Theetge Motorsport or under Groupe Theetge branding, with Donald Theetge serving as owner and frequently competing as a driver for the organization. The team fields Chevrolet Camaros in the NASCAR Canada Series, primarily the No. 80. Crew chief responsibilities have been handled by Martin Roy (as noted in driver profiles), though later partnerships such as in 2025 saw Don Thomson Jr. take the role. Team sponsors have included those tied to Theetge's associated dealership operations under Groupe Theetge. The organization has continued to evolve, including partnerships with drivers such as Alex Tagliani in later seasons while maintaining its focus on competitive entries in the series.

Achievements

Championships and major wins

Donald Theetge has won championships in Quebec late model and ACT Series competition, including the Série IMAX LMS Québec title in 2004, the Série nationale Castrol LMS Québec championship in 2006, and the Quebec ACT Series championship in 2009. Theetge has recorded more than 20 combined wins across the ACT and Castrol series throughout his career in Quebec and beyond. In the NASCAR Canada Series, Theetge has made 80 starts, earning 3 wins—including one in 2018—along with 8 poles and 53 top-10 finishes. His best points championship finish came in 2020, when he placed 5th. Among his other major achievements, Theetge earned a third-place finish in the 2010 Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge at Daytona International Speedway alongside his brother Benoit. He also participated in two races in the ARCA Menards Series East in 2022 through a partnership with Visconti Motorsports.
