Addressing Disparities in Harlem
Early Career
Early in her career, during her internship at Harlem Hospital, Dr. Bath witnessed the disproportionately high rates of blindness among African Americans. This experience fueled her passion for addressing health disparities.
Cofounding of AIPB
1974
As co-founder of the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness (AIPB), Dr. Bath focused on community outreach, education, and providing free or low-cost eye screenings to underserved communities.
Global Humanitarian Missions
Post-Retirement
Even after retiring from UCLA, Dr. Bath dedicated much of her time to traveling the world, providing free eye care and performing cataract surgeries in developing countries. This work was especially focused on restoring sight to people who would otherwise not have access to treatment.
Advocacy for Telemedicine
