Key Information

Angus Tarnawsky is an Australian-Canadian artist and musician.[1][2] He was awarded a Bachelor of Music Performance (Honours) from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2009, specializing in electro-acoustic improvisation,[3] and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Media, Art and Design from OCAD University in 2020, investigating sound in urban spaces.[4] He relocated from Australia to Brooklyn, New York in 2010[5] to join the motorik influenced rock band, Apache Beat,[6] and since 2018, he has primarily lived and worked in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, Canada.[7][8][9] As a solo artist, he creates electro-acoustic/electronic music[10] and exhibits sound installations.[11] In 2014, his debut EP was released by the Berlin-based record label Inner Surface Music.[12] That same year the Melbourne Next Wave Festival premiered his first installation project "Artifacts," with pianist Nathan Liow.[13] He has collaborated on a wide range of projects, including work with visual artist, Stanislava Pinchuk,[14] musician Brian Chase,[15] and choreographer Duane Cyrus.[16] He is also the curator of the experimental record label In Context Music.[17]

Between 2015 and 2017 he was the drummer and recording engineer for the punk band Flowers of Evil, recording two full-length albums.[18] As a session drummer he has toured and recorded with various artists including Crocodiles, Haunted Hearts, Devin Therriault, Temples,[17] Au.Ra,[19] Cleopold,[20] Splashh, and Ballet School.[21][22]
