Early life
Bhuvan Arora was born on January 27, 1987, in Delhi, India.[9][10] He was raised in a disciplined military household, with his father, S.L. Arora, serving as an officer in the Indian Army, and his mother, Sneh Lata Arora, working in a government organization.[4] Arora has an elder sister named Deepti Arora.[1][11] Growing up, he was exposed to army life through his father's postings and by attending an army school, which instilled a sense of structure and resilience in his early years.[12] Despite the family's emphasis on stable careers influenced by his father's military background, Arora developed an initial interest in cinema during his school years, aspiring to become an actor from childhood.[9] This passion led him to pursue formal acting training later on.Education
Bhuvan Arora began his schooling at Manav Sthali School in Delhi before transferring to Armed Naval Public School in Chanakyapuri, Delhi.[4] He pursued higher education at PGDAV College, University of Delhi, where he earned a B.Com (Honors) degree and served as president of the dramatics society, deepening his involvement in theater during his undergraduate years.[4][13] Following graduation, Arora enrolled in the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, Maharashtra, for a two-and-a-half-year diploma in acting.[13][14] There, he received intensive training through workshops and performances, mentored by prominent faculty including Naseeruddin Shah, Kamal Haasan, and Saurabh Shukla, which helped solidify his foundational acting skills.[15][14]Career
Early career and debut
After graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Bhuvan Arora moved to Mumbai to pursue acting, facing significant challenges in breaking into the industry. Over the next decade, he auditioned relentlessly, giving more than 5,000 auditions across films, advertisements, and short projects, often facing rejection and financial hardships as a newcomer. This persistence, honed by his FTII training, helped him secure minor roles in advertisements and student films initially, but he struggled with typecasting in supporting parts, particularly as the hero's loyal friend or comedic sidekick, which limited his opportunities for lead roles.[3][16][17] Arora made his film debut in 2013 with Shuddh Desi Romance, a Yash Raj Films production directed by Maneesh Sharma, where he played a small supporting role as Raghu's friend, a character that showcased his natural comic timing alongside leads Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra. The film, a romantic comedy exploring modern relationships in Jaipur, marked his entry into Bollywood but did not lead to immediate breakthroughs, reinforcing his pattern of peripheral roles. Despite the limited screen time, Arora's performance was noted for its authenticity, drawing from his theater background.[18][17][2] In the following years, Arora continued with supporting roles in films like Tevar (2015), where he portrayed Ghonsla, the protagonist Pintoo's witty friend in this action-comedy starring Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha, and Bank Chor (2017), a heist comedy directed by Bumpy, in which he played Gulab, one of the bumbling thieves alongside Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi. These characters often embodied the trope of the reliable, humorous sidekick, highlighting Arora's skill in ensemble dynamics but also underscoring the typecasting challenges he faced as an emerging actor in Bollywood's competitive landscape. His early television and web work was minimal before 2018, primarily consisting of advertisements and short films that served as stepping stones to more substantial series opportunities.[19][18][2]Breakthrough roles
Arora's first major television role came in the 2018 military-themed web series The Test Case, where he portrayed Captain Rohan Rathore, a dedicated officer undergoing rigorous training in India's elite Para Special Forces. This performance marked a significant step in his career, showcasing his ability to embody disciplined and resilient military personnel in a narrative centered on gender integration in the armed forces.[20] Arora's breakthrough arrived with the 2023 Amazon Prime Video series Farzi, in which he played Firoz, the street-smart and loyal best friend to Shahid Kapoor's protagonist Sunny. His portrayal redefined the conventional "best friend" trope in Indian cinema by infusing the character with emotional depth, authenticity, and a hustler's edge, transforming Firoz into a standout figure amid the show's ensemble cast.[3] Critics and audiences praised the role for its genuine depiction of camaraderie and moral complexity in the crime thriller's counterfeit money plot, highlighting Arora's nuanced acting as a highlight.[2] This acclaim culminated in Arora receiving the IMDb STARmeter Award for Breakout Star in 2023, recognizing his rising prominence.[21] The success of Farzi propelled a notable shift in Arora's career trajectory, moving him from peripheral supporting roles to opportunities for more layered and protagonist-adjacent characters. Post-Farzi, he gained the leverage to selectively choose scripts that allowed for greater character exploration, reflecting a transition from audition-driven work to creative autonomy in the industry.[17][22]Recent projects
Following his success in Farzi, Bhuvan Arora has embraced a diverse range of roles across Bollywood films, Tamil cinema, and OTT platforms, showcasing his versatility in both supporting and character-driven parts. In 2024, he took on a supporting role in the biographical sports drama Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan, where he contributed to the ensemble cast portraying the life of Murlikant Petkar.[23] That same year, Arora appeared in the Tamil action thriller Amaran, dedicating his performance to his father and highlighting his willingness to explore regional cinema beyond Hindi projects.[24] Additionally, he featured in the action spy thriller web series Citadel: Honey Bunny on Prime Video, further establishing his presence in high-stakes digital content.[25] In 2025, Arora starred in the comedy series Dupahiya on Prime Video, sharing the screen with an ensemble including Gajraj Rao, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Renuka Shahane, which allowed him to delve into lighter, humorous territory.[8] His most notable recent project has been the ZEE5 series Janaawar - The Beast Within, released in September 2025, where he portrayed an intense cop navigating moral dilemmas in a narrative focused on human-animal conflict and ethical introspection.[7] The series, shot entirely in 15 days, emphasized character-driven storytelling, with Arora's performance praised for its depth despite narrative critiques.[26][27] This phase marks Arora's professional growth, as Farzi provided the leverage to reject typecasting and selectively choose diverse characters, from action-oriented thrillers to comedies and introspective dramas.[28] In interviews, he has expressed dissatisfaction with earlier limited opportunities, now enjoying a busy schedule with multiple projects lined up, signaling his rising industry standing and potential for lead roles in Bollywood and OTT spaces.[23][24]Filmography
