International career

Youth level

Gabriel Busanello did not receive any call-ups or earn caps for Brazil's youth international teams, including the under-17 and under-20 squads, during his formative years from 2013 to 2018. This absence from national youth setups is consistent across records of his early development, with no documented involvement in any international youth matches or training camps. His focus during this period was primarily on club-level progression, beginning with the youth academy of União Frederiquense in , where he developed from 2015 to 2016, before moving to Chapecoense's system in 2016 and remaining there until 2018. Originating from Frederico Westphalen in —a southern state with a regional football tradition but fewer direct pipelines to national selectors compared to talent hubs like São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro—Busanello's path emphasized local and club-based growth over early national exposure. This regional context, combined with the demands of domestic competitions, likely directed his energies toward establishing himself at club level as the main route to higher recognition. As a result, Busanello missed opportunities to compete in key youth tournaments such as the South American Youth Football Championship or the , events that often serve as showcases for emerging talents. His club career progression ultimately positioned him for senior professional opportunities, underscoring the alternative pathway he followed in lieu of youth international involvement.

Senior level

As of November 2025, Gabriel Busanello remains uncapped at the senior international level for the national team, with no call-ups to qualifiers, tournaments, or friendly matches. His transition to European football, beginning with a to Ukrainian club Dnipro-1 in 2022 followed by a permanent move to Swedish side in January 2023, has primarily directed his professional focus toward club performances and adaptation to new leagues rather than pursuing senior national team opportunities. This career path has been compounded by fierce competition for the left-back position in the senior squad, where established players such as and have dominated selections due to their extensive experience and consistent contributions in top-tier competitions. Busanello, who also lacked involvement in Brazil's youth international setups, continues to be eligible to represent the senior team, and his ongoing displays in the and may position him for future consideration should opportunities arise.
