The Hughes 31 is a recreational keelboat first built by Hughes Boat Works in Canada, starting in 1979, but it is now out of production.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][excessive citations]

Key Information

Design

[edit]

It was designed by Sparkman & Stephens, derived from their North Star 1000[1][2] by extending the transom, increasing the beam, and making the coach house roof larger to increase cabin space.[1][2][7][3]

The fibreglass hull has a reverse transom, and a skeg-mounted rudder. It displaces 9,100 lb (4,128 kg) and carries 3,350 lb (1,520 kg) of ballast.[1][2]

The boat has a draft of 5.00 ft (1.52 m) with the standard fixed fin keel[1][2] and a hull speed of 6.57 kn (12.17 km/h).[2]

The design has sleeping accommodation for six people,[7] with a double "V"-berth in the bow cabin, a fold-out double settee and a single straight settee in the main cabin and an aft quarter berth on the starboard side. The galley is located on the port side just forward of the companionway ladder. The galley is L-shaped and is equipped with a two-burner stove, icebox and a sink. A navigation station is opposite the galley, on the starboard side. The head is located just aft of the bow cabin on the port side.[1][2]
