Family background
Joshua Harry Ritchie was born on 21 May 1994 in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England.[9] Ritchie's immediate family includes his mother Karen Ritchie, who operates the local estate agency Karen Ritchie Estates, and his older sister, Michaela Wain, a construction business owner who gained public attention as a contestant on the thirteenth series of The Apprentice in 2017.[10][11][12] He also has a sister named Cassidy Ritchie.[13] There is limited public information available about his father or other siblings.[14] Ritchie grew up in a working-class family in Bolton, with early familial ties to trades and property.[11] His sister's appearance on The Apprentice provided an early point of exposure to reality television within the family.[14]Upbringing in Bolton
Josh Ritchie was born and raised in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England, where he grew up in a typical working-class Northern English setting characterized by community-oriented life in the town.[9][15] Prior to entering the public eye, Ritchie pursued practical employment, working as a joiner in the construction trade while occasionally taking on part-time modeling gigs.[16][17][18] His early interests revolved around sports and social activities; he played for a local soccer club and was known among friends for his attention to personal appearance during outings, often taking extra time to get ready.[19][20] These pursuits reflected a youthful engagement with fitness and the local social scene in Bolton, which later informed his on-screen persona.[11] Ritchie benefited from a supportive family environment grounded in his Bolton roots, fostering a sense of ambition and community ties during his formative years.[8]Television career
Love Island appearances
Josh Ritchie made his television debut on the first series of Love Island in 2015, entering the Mallorca villa on Day 1 as one of the original male contestants. He initially coupled up with Lauren Richardson during the opening coupling ceremony, but his romantic journey quickly became tumultuous. On Day 2, following a challenge win by Jess Hayes and Jordan Stephens, Josh was swapped into a coupling with Hayes, forming an early love triangle that drew significant attention from fellow islanders and viewers. By Day 6, at the first recoupling, he chose to pair with Hayes, solidifying their connection amid growing tensions with Naomi Ball. However, on Day 8, new arrival Naomi Ball chose Josh during the coupling ceremony, switching him from Hayes after a period of flirtation. They became official boyfriend and girlfriend on Day 15 and shared challenges like the Compatibility Test on Day 17.[21][18] Throughout the series, Ritchie's arcs involved navigating eliminations and dramatic twists, including a brief split from Ball on Day 26 after she expressed doubts, leading to a double date with Richardson that reignited old sparks. He participated in various villa challenges, such as cooking for new arrivals on Day 30 and a heart rate challenge that highlighted his playful yet polarizing persona. Tensions peaked in a heated confrontation between Ball and Hayes over Ritchie's affections, underscoring the emotional intensity of his couplings. Ultimately, on Day 33 at the final recoupling, Ritchie recoupled with Richardson, with whom he had reconnected during dates like one on Day 32 with Poppy Farnan. The pair reached the final on Day 41, finishing in third place, which boosted Ritchie's visibility and sparked immediate post-show buzz as fans praised his charisma and resilience in the villa's high-stakes environment.[22][21][5] Ritchie returned to the franchise nearly a decade later on Love Island: All Stars in 2024, entering the South African villa on Day 4 as a bombshell to stir up existing couples. He went on dates with Georgia Steel, Hannah Elizabeth, and Georgia Harrison—his ex from 2022—before coupling up with Harrison that evening, leveraging their past chemistry to create instant drama. This pairing faced scrutiny due to their history, but Ritchie's grafting extended to others, including flirtations that tested loyalties. On Day 10, Sophie Piper selected him for a date, leading to a public vote on Day 11 that recoupled him with Piper, marking the start of a more stable romantic arc built on mutual interest and shared humor during villa challenges.[23][21][24] In subsequent recouplings on Days 18 and 23, Ritchie consistently chose Piper, navigating eliminations of rivals and participating in games like the "Couple of Sorts" challenge, where his witty banter endeared him to some while drawing criticism for perceived disloyalty toward Harrison early on. The couple's journey emphasized compatibility over fireworks, with Piper appreciating Ritchie's maturity compared to his 2015 antics. They advanced to the final on Day 37, securing third place with 15% of the public vote, behind winners Molly Smith and Tom Clare (35%) and runners-up Jess Gale and Callum Jones (33%). Fan reactions were mixed but largely positive toward their underdog status, with social media buzz highlighting Ritchie's growth and the couple's post-show continuation as a real-life relationship, further cementing his status as a Love Island veteran.[25][26][27]Other reality television shows
Following his breakout success on Love Island, Josh Ritchie expanded his presence in reality television through various formats, showcasing his charisma in dating, competition, and documentary-style programs. These appearances solidified his status as a versatile reality TV personality, often leveraging his personal relationships and outspoken nature to engage audiences.[23] Ritchie's notable role came in MTV's Ex on the Beach, where he appeared in the sixth series in 2017, entering as a self-proclaimed "ladies' man" amid villa drama involving ex-partners and new romances. He returned for the seventh series in 2017, navigating intensified conflicts and romantic entanglements that highlighted his experience with high-stakes interpersonal dynamics. These stints contributed to his growing fanbase, with the show emphasizing themes of past relationships disrupting current connections.[28][16] In 2018, Ritchie served as a guest presenter on MTV's Just Tattoo of Us alongside his then-partner Charlotte Crosby, co-hosting episodes that featured couples designing tattoos for each other, often leading to humorous or tense reveals. Their on-screen chemistry, drawn from their real-life relationship, added a relatable layer to the format, which focused on testing romantic bonds through permanent ink decisions.[29] Ritchie competed on E4's Celebrity Coach Trip in 2019, partnering with Crosby for a 10-day European journey involving group challenges and peer voting. The pair finished as runners-up, praised for their banter and resilience against nominations, in a season that toured multiple countries and tested celebrity couples' compatibility under travel pressures.[30][31] He joined E4's Celebs Go Dating across its seventh and eighth series in 2019 and 2020, seeking romantic connections through agency dates, therapy sessions, and group retreats. Ritchie participated both solo and initially as part of a couple with Crosby, undergoing counseling to address relationship issues, which resonated with viewers following their public dynamic. The show positioned him as a candid participant open about his dating challenges post-fame.[32][33] In 2022, Ritchie featured in ITV's documentary series Getting Filthy Rich hosted by Olivia Attwood, discussing his experiences monetizing content on OnlyFans and the realities of adult-oriented platforms for celebrities. His episode explored the financial and personal impacts of such ventures, providing insight into the evolving landscape of reality star income streams.[3] Throughout these shows, Ritchie maintained strong viewer reception for his authentic and unfiltered persona, often turning personal drama into engaging television that extended his career beyond dating formats. In July 2025, he commented publicly on the ongoing Love Island UK season, criticizing contestant Shakira Khan's remark about no longer shopping at Aldi post-fame as insensitive, underscoring his continued engagement with the genre.[34]Business ventures
Construction and property development
Josh Ritchie has been involved in the construction and property sectors through his directorships in family-linked companies based in Bolton, Greater Manchester. He serves as a director of Ritchie Construction Limited, which was incorporated on 26 November 2018 and remains active, with Ritchie appointed to the role on 6 July 2021.[7] The company operates in the construction industry, focusing on projects in the North West England region, including building and renovation works primarily around the Bolton area. In addition to construction, Ritchie co-directs Ritchie Properties (NW) Ltd, established on 12 February 2024 and also active, alongside family member Dave Ritchie, who has been involved in both entities since their inceptions.[35][36] This venture specializes in property development, investments, and real estate management, such as letting and operating owned or leased properties, with a emphasis on opportunities in the local Bolton market.[35] The businesses leverage family ties, with Dave Ritchie serving as a co-director in Ritchie Construction Limited since 2018, enabling collaborative operations in construction and property-related activities.[7] Ritchie's entry into these sectors began as a side venture following his rise to fame on reality television, where he expressed intentions in 2015 to use potential winnings to launch a property development company.[37] By 2025, the enterprises had expanded to a commercial scale, with Ritchie Properties marking a progression into broader real estate investments and management in North West England.[35] This growth reflects a diversification from entertainment, supported by his prior experience as a joiner in the building trade.Digital content and OnlyFans
Ritchie launched his OnlyFans account in 2020, providing subscribers with exclusive X-rated content, including material focused on his physique and personal moments.[38] This platform quickly became a significant revenue stream for him following his reality TV appearances, with Ritchie revealing in 2023 that he had earned sufficiently from it to no longer rely on the income, leading him to quit the platform.[39] It had offered personalized interactions and premium material, capitalizing on his established fanbase and charging around £11.63 monthly at launch.[40] Parallel to his OnlyFans venture, Ritchie's social media presence expanded notably, particularly on Instagram under the handle @joshuaritchie1, where he amassed over 878,000 followers by 2025.[41] On TikTok, via @joshritch1, he garnered 191,000 followers and over 6 million likes, leveraging short-form videos to engage audiences. These platforms served as key channels for digital content dissemination, amplifying his visibility beyond traditional media. Ritchie's content strategy across these outlets emphasizes relatable daily life updates, fan engagements through comments and Q&A sessions, and subtle promotions tying into his business interests, such as property showcases.[42] In 2025, his posts highlighted personal style elements like tracksuit fashion shares and reflective content on his Love Island All Stars experience, fostering ongoing community interaction.[41] This approach not only sustained subscriber loyalty on OnlyFans but also drove cross-platform growth, blending authenticity with commercial synergy.[3]Personal life
Relationships
Ritchie's most prominent romantic relationship was with reality television star Charlotte Crosby, which began in February 2018 after they met through mutual connections in the industry.[43] The couple, who co-hosted seasons of the MTV show Just Tattoo of Us together starting in 2018, became a high-profile pair known for their shared appearances on reality programming and public discussions about future plans including marriage and family. Their relationship ended acrimoniously on November 17, 2019, with reports citing lifestyle differences, including Crosby's desire to settle down and Ritchie's unreadiness for commitment, as key factors in the split.[44][45] In January 2024, Ritchie entered Love Island: All Stars and coupled up with Sophie Piper, the half-sister of presenter Rochelle Humes, marking the start of their relationship that originated within the show's format.[46] The pair finished in third place and have since maintained an ongoing romance as of November 2025, frequently sharing updates on social media and making joint public appearances, such as double dates with Piper's family.[6][47] Their partnership has been described as playful and supportive, with Piper receiving approval from her sister.[48] Earlier in his career, Ritchie had brief in-show romantic pairings, such as with Naomi Ball during the first season of Love Island in 2015, where they coupled up but parted ways after she refused to engage in sexual activity on camera, leading to a public split.[49] He also dated Georgia Harrison briefly in 2022, a connection that later resurfaced tensions during Love Island: All Stars, though it did not develop into a long-term commitment.[50]Public persona and social media
Josh Ritchie has cultivated a public image as a cheeky and confident reality television personality, often self-described as a "cheeky chappy" who exudes charisma and determination in his interactions on shows like Love Island.[51] His authenticity and straightforward demeanor have resonated with audiences, earning him a dedicated fanbase that appreciates his evolution from a young contestant to a more mature figure, with supporters praising his gentlemanly qualities and commitment in relationships.[52][53] While Ritchie has largely avoided major scandals, he has faced occasional tabloid scrutiny, including accusations of not paying a small business for event services in 2024 and viewer backlash during Love Island: All Stars for perceived manipulative behavior in romantic dynamics.[54][55] In 2025, he drew attention for publicly criticizing Love Island UK contestant Shakira Khan's comment about post-show fame involving Aldi shopping, labeling it classist and inappropriate in a video response that highlighted his views on socioeconomic sensitivity.[56] Ritchie's social media presence has evolved from primarily promoting his television appearances to a platform for personal branding, where he shares glimpses of his lifestyle to sustain public engagement after his Love Island: All Stars stint.[57] By 2025, his updates increasingly featured aspirational content, such as holiday getaways and teases of property renovations, helping him maintain relevance as a multifaceted celebrity.[58] This shift has been subtly influenced by his high-profile partnership with Sophie Piper, which has portrayed him as a devoted partner and endeared him further to fans.[59]Filmography
