IF Brommapojkarna (early career)
Nabil Bahoui was born on February 5, 1991, in Stockholm, Sweden, to Moroccan parents.[7][1] Bahoui's early football development took place in Stockholm's local clubs, beginning with Mälarhöjdens IK until 1996, followed by a stint at Fruängens IF in 1997, then Tellus IK and Hammarby IF until 2002. He joined the youth setup of IF Brommapojkarna in 2003, where he progressed through the ranks until 2008.[1][8] Bahoui made his senior debut for IF Brommapojkarna in 2008 at the age of 17 in the Superettan, Sweden's second-tier league.[9] During the 2010–2012 seasons, Bahoui emerged as a key contributor for Brommapojkarna, showcasing his versatility as a winger and forward with notable goals and assists that drew interest from top Swedish clubs. His performances helped solidify his reputation as a promising talent in the Superettan. Over his initial stint with Brommapojkarna from 2008 to 2012, Bahoui made approximately 55 appearances and scored 17 goals across all competitions.[10] In December 2012, Bahoui transferred to Allsvenskan club AIK on a three-and-a-half-year contract effective from January 2013, marking his step up to Sweden's top flight.[6]AIK
Nabil Bahoui signed with AIK on a free transfer from IF Brommapojkarna, effective January 1, 2013, on a three-and-a-half-year contract.[11] In his breakthrough 2013 season, Bahoui made 25 appearances and scored 6 goals in the Allsvenskan, contributing significantly to AIK's second-place finish in the league with 58 points.[12] During the 2014 campaign, Bahoui emerged as a key attacker, netting 14 goals in the Allsvenskan to become AIK's top league scorer that year. He also scored a crucial goal in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers against FC Astana on July 31, 2014, in a 1-1 draw during the third qualifying round. His performances earned him a nomination for Midfielder of the Year at the 2014 Swedish Football Awards. Additionally, his form led to a call-up to the Sweden national team in August 2014 for a friendly against Estonia. Bahoui maintained consistent output in 2015, scoring 6 goals in 12 Allsvenskan matches before his mid-season departure, bringing his contributions across competitions that year to 10 goals. Over his initial stint from 2013 to 2015, he amassed approximately 75 appearances and 32 goals in all competitions for AIK. In July 2015, amid growing interest from abroad, Bahoui transferred to Al-Ahli in the Saudi Professional League for a reported fee of €910,000.[13][6]Al-Ahli
In July 2015, Nabil Bahoui transferred from AIK to Al-Ahli Saudi FC for a fee of €910,000, signing a two-year contract until May 2017.[13][14] Bahoui's adaptation to the Saudi Professional League proved challenging amid stiff competition for attacking positions in a squad featuring several international talents; he made 10 league appearances in the 2015–16 season, starting 4 matches and coming off the bench 6 times, without scoring a goal but recording 2 assists. He also featured in cup competitions, appearing in 3 matches for Al-Ahli in the 2015–16 Saudi Crown Prince Cup, including substitute roles during the team's run to the final, where they ultimately lost 1–2 to Al-Hilal on February 19, 2016—after Bahoui's departure.[15] Overall, across all competitions during his half-season stint, Bahoui recorded 13 appearances and 0 goals, hampered by limited starts and the need to adjust to a new cultural and tactical environment in Saudi football.[10] In January 2016, seeking more consistent playing time in Europe, Bahoui joined Hamburger SV on a free transfer until June 2017.Hamburger SV
In January 2016, Nabil Bahoui joined Hamburger SV on loan from Al-Ahli until the end of the 2015–16 season.[16] Bahoui made his Bundesliga debut on February 6, 2016, in a home match against Bayern Munich, which ended in a 1–2 defeat.[17] His playing time was limited to 8 appearances across all competitions, with 1 goal scored against Ingolstadt, and he primarily featured as a substitute.[18] During this period, Bahoui faced challenges adapting to the high-pressure environment of the Bundesliga, compounded by Hamburger SV's intense relegation battle and his own inconsistent form.[18] At the conclusion of the loan, the option for a permanent transfer was not exercised, and Bahoui returned to Al-Ahli.[16]Grasshopper Club Zürich
In the summer of 2017, Nabil Bahoui transferred to Grasshopper Club Zürich on a free transfer from Hamburger SV, signing a three-year contract until June 2020.[18] Building on his brief experience from a loan spell at Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga, the move allowed Bahoui to build his European résumé with more consistent playing opportunities in the Swiss Super League. During the 2017–18 season, Bahoui adapted to the Swiss top flight, making 12 appearances in the Super League where he scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists, alongside 3 cup appearances with 1 goal and 1 assist.[19] His contributions included notable performances in local derbies, such as the Zürich derby against rivals FC Zürich on October 21, 2017, where Grasshopper secured a 4–0 victory.[20] However, injury setbacks in early 2018 limited his minutes toward the end of the campaign, prompting a mid-season loan departure to AIK in February 2018.[5] Upon returning from loan in summer 2018, Bahoui featured more regularly in the 2018–19 season, logging 18 appearances and scoring 3 goals across all competitions despite ongoing challenges with form and fitness that reduced his overall impact.[6] Over his full tenure at Grasshopper, he accumulated 33 appearances and 7 goals, reflecting moderate success in establishing himself in Swiss football before departing permanently in February 2019.[21]AIK (loan)
In February 2018, Nabil Bahoui returned to AIK on a short-term loan from Grasshopper Club Zürich, lasting until 30 June 2018.[22] Drawing on his prior experience with the club from 2013 to 2015, Bahoui swiftly reintegrated and made 11 appearances in the Allsvenskan, scoring 3 goals while often coming off the bench in key matches.[15] His contributions helped bolster AIK's title challenge, as the team clinched the 2018 Allsvenskan championship with a record of 19 wins, 10 draws, and 1 loss.[23][24] Bahoui also featured in 4 Swedish Cup matches during the 2017–18 edition, aiding AIK's run to the semi-finals before their elimination by eventual winners Djurgårdens IF.[25] No extension was sought for the loan, and Bahoui returned to Grasshopper, where he played briefly in the 2018–19 Swiss Super League season before transferring to De Graafschap in February 2019.De Graafschap
In February 2019, Nabil Bahoui joined De Graafschap on a free transfer from Grasshopper Club Zürich after being released by the Swiss club amid their own relegation struggles.[26] This move marked his return to competitive European football following a brief loan spell at AIK earlier that year. Bahoui quickly integrated into the squad during the latter stages of the 2018–19 Eredivisie season, where De Graafschap were battling to avoid relegation. He made 11 league appearances, accumulating 312 minutes and recording 1 assist, though he did not score. His contributions extended to the promotion/relegation playoffs, where he featured in all 4 matches, scoring 1 goal and helping the team advance past Sparta Rotterdam in the semi-finals with a 2–1 aggregate victory. However, De Graafschap fell short in the final against RKC Waalwijk, losing 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 aggregate draw, confirming their drop to the Eerste Divisie.[27] Over his brief stint, Bahoui totaled 15 appearances and 1 goal across all competitions for De Graafschap.[21] In July 2019, following the conclusion of the season and the expiry of his short-term deal, he departed as a free agent to rejoin AIK in the Allsvenskan.Return to AIK
In February 2020, Nabil Bahoui returned to AIK on a free transfer from De Graafschap, signing a three-year contract until the end of 2022.[11] This move marked his permanent homecoming to the club where he had previously established himself as a key player earlier in his career. During the 2020 Allsvenskan season, Bahoui featured in 25 matches and scored 7 goals.[28] From the 2021 to 2022 seasons, Bahoui was a consistent starter for AIK, making a total of 60 appearances and netting 15 goals across all competitions. He played a pivotal role in the team's success.[29] The 2023 season brought challenges for Bahoui at AIK, as struggles with form and injuries limited his playing time to just a handful of substitute appearances. Over his full stint from 2020 to 2023, he accumulated 90 appearances and 25 goals in all competitions. In February 2023, AIK and Bahoui mutually agreed to terminate his contract early, allowing him to pursue new opportunities.[30]Qatar SC
In February 2023, Nabil Bahoui signed a short-term contract with Qatar SC of the Qatar Stars League, joining from AIK until the end of the 2022–23 season in June.[6][31] The move came amid a dip in form for his previous club AIK during the latter part of their 2022 campaign. During his brief stint, Bahoui made 8 appearances in the league as a squad player, primarily coming off the bench, and contributed 0 goals amid the team's mid-table position in the 22-match season.[32] He struggled to secure a regular starting role, reflecting challenges in adapting to the physical demands and tactical style of Qatari football, where he often played limited minutes in a side that recorded 11 wins, 4 draws, and 7 losses. Bahoui departed Qatar SC upon the expiration of his contract in June 2023, as the club opted not to extend his deal, ending his time in the Gulf league after just four months.[6][1]Persepolis
In September 2023, Nabil Bahoui transferred to Persepolis FC of the Persian Gulf Pro League on a one-year contract with an option for extension, leveraging his prior experience in the Middle East from his stint at Qatar SC to ease his adaptation to Iranian football.[33][34] During his time at the club from September 2023 to February 2024, Bahoui featured in 11 appearances across all competitions, scoring 1 goal.[6] He also contributed to Persepolis' continental efforts in the 2024 AFC Champions League group stage, including scoring during the qualifying rounds that helped secure their progression.[15] Bahoui was released by Persepolis in February 2024.[31]IF Brommapojkarna (return)
Bahoui remained without a club as a free agent from February 2024 until March 2025.[31] In March 2025, Nabil Bahoui rejoined IF Brommapojkarna on a free transfer, signing a short-term contract valid through the end of the 2025 Allsvenskan season.[35][1] This move brought him back to the club where he first launched his professional career in the early 2000s.[1] During the 2025 Allsvenskan campaign, Bahoui has featured in 14 appearances, scoring 0 goals and providing 1 assist as of November 2025 while operating mainly as a centre-forward and wearing jersey number 39.[1][6] Bahoui's market value stood at €175,000 during the 2025 season, reflecting his experience and utility in the squad.[1] He has maintained a rotational role within the team, providing depth and leadership up front amid the club's push for a solid mid-table finish.[1] Discussions regarding a potential contract extension beyond 2025 have been reported as the season progresses.[1]International career
Youth career
Nabil Bahoui began his international career at the youth level with the Swedish national teams, starting with a debut for the Sweden U19 side in 2010, where he earned 1 cap without scoring a goal.[36] Bahoui progressed to the Sweden U21 team, receiving call-ups from 2012 to 2013 and making appearances in which he scored goals. These included matches in the qualifiers for the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, during which Sweden aimed to secure qualification for the tournament hosted in Israel.[37] Bahoui's youth international career included 1 cap for U19 with 0 goals; details for U21 are limited in available sources. His strong club form at AIK contributed to his selection for these youth squads.[36]Senior career
Bahoui earned his first senior call-up to the Sweden national team for a training camp in Abu Dhabi in late 2013, leading to his debut on 17 January 2014 in a friendly against Moldova, which Sweden won 2–1.[38] He started the match and played the full 90 minutes.[39] Bahoui's senior international career was brief, spanning 2014 and 2015 with a total of eight appearances and no goals scored.[38] His opportunities arose from strong form at AIK, building on earlier youth international success that highlighted his potential as a winger. The following table summarizes his caps:| Date | Opponent | Competition | Result | Role/Minutes |

Style of play and personal life
Style of play
Nabil Bahoui primarily operates as a winger on either flank or as an attacking midfielder, though he has transitioned to a centre-forward role in recent seasons, leveraging his 188 cm height and right-footedness for aerial presence and hold-up play.[40][41][1] His strengths lie in his technical proficiency, rapid pace, and sharp shooting ability, allowing him to execute direct attacks and deliver precise strikes from distance. Bahoui is known for his flair in dribbling and vision in creating assists, particularly in high-stakes matches like derbies where he elevates his performance.[42] However, Bahoui has faced challenges with inconsistency in finishing, often attributed to his "mood player" tendencies and variable form, compounded by recurrent injuries such as hamstring issues and knee problems that have hampered his later career.[42][43]Personal life
Nabil Bahoui was born on 5 February 1991 in Stockholm, Sweden, to parents of Moroccan origin, giving him dual Moroccan-Swedish heritage.[33][1] Bahoui is a practicing Muslim, and he has shared his experiences as a Muslim athlete in public campaigns, including a 2023 Adidas initiative in Sweden that promoted physical activity and fitness during Ramadan.[44] Details about Bahoui's family life remain private, with no public information available on his marital status or children. He maintains close ties to Morocco, as evidenced by his presence there during the devastating 2023 earthquake, where he witnessed families in distress amid the chaos.[45] Bahoui has avoided major controversies in his personal life.[1]Career statistics and honours
