Upbringing
Nathan Lowe was born on 18 September 2005 in Harlow, Essex, England.[4][8] In 2014, at the age of nine, Lowe's family relocated from Harlow to the Cheshire area, a move that significantly shaped his early environment and exposed him to new local influences.[9] Following the relocation, he attended Lymm High School, where he balanced initial academic pursuits with emerging interests.[10] Lowe's upbringing emphasized education alongside other activities, as his parents actively encouraged a strong academic foundation from an early age.[7] This family-driven focus on personal development provided non-football influences that complemented his childhood in the Cheshire community. After settling in the area, Lowe transitioned to local youth football opportunities, marking the start of his organized sporting involvement.[9]Initial youth football
Nathan Lowe began his organized youth football career at the age of four with Bishop's Stortford Community Football Club (BSCFC) in Hertfordshire, joining in 2009 under the guidance of lead coach Gary Mardle.[11][12] He remained with the club for four years, participating in local grassroots matches that provided his initial exposure to competitive play.[11] In 2014, following his family's relocation from the Harlow area to Knutsford in Cheshire, Lowe transitioned to Egerton FC, a community club in the region, where he continued developing his skills in local youth leagues.[9][13] During his time at Egerton from 2014 to 2016, he played as a forward in grassroots setups, honing his goal-scoring instincts through regular matches against nearby teams.[4][14] Lowe's performances at Egerton drew early scouting attention, particularly from Stoke City, who identified his potential during an under-10s tournament and offered him a trial that led to his acceptance into their academy in 2016.[13] This move marked the end of his grassroots phase and the beginning of structured professional youth development.[14]Club career
Stoke City academy
Nathan Lowe joined the Stoke City academy in 2016 at the age of 10 after being spotted playing for Egerton FC.[9] He quickly integrated into the youth system, progressing through the age groups from under-12 to under-21 levels over the next seven years.[4] This development emphasized technical skill-building, tactical awareness, and physical conditioning within Stoke's professional academy structure at Clayton Wood. During the 2021/22 season, Lowe featured prominently for the under-18s in the U18 Premier League, making 10 appearances and scoring 6 goals.[15] His form continued into 2022/23, where he netted another 6 goals in 8 league outings for the U18s, contributing to a strong campaign that saw the team reach the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup.[15] In the cup, Lowe excelled, scoring 3 goals across 3 matches, including a strike in the 4-1 fifth-round defeat to West Ham United—his 19th goal of the season overall at youth level.[16] Earlier in the competition, Stoke had advanced by defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the fourth round, with Lowe creating key chances during the tie.[17] Lowe transitioned to the under-21s in the Premier League 2 during 2022/23, appearing in 8 matches and scoring once while continuing to train with the younger group.[15] Over the following seasons, he became a regular at U21 level, accumulating 23 appearances and 10 goals in the competition by 2024/25, demonstrating his growing versatility as a forward.[15] His contributions earned him the Broxap Outstanding Academy Achievement award for September 2023, recognizing his rapid rise through the system.[18] In the summer of 2024, Lowe completed his League Football Education (LFE) apprenticeship, a milestone that certified his professional development and paved the way for senior opportunities.[7] This two-year program combined football training with educational qualifications, aligning with Stoke's emphasis on holistic player growth.[7]Stoke City first team
Lowe signed his first professional contract with Stoke City on 28 September 2022, shortly after turning 17 and graduating from the club's academy.[19] This deal marked his transition to senior terms, building on his prolific youth record where his academy experience had honed his skills as a forward.[19] He made his senior debut on 18 February 2023, substituting into a Championship match against Blackpool, which ended in a 0–1 away defeat.[20] Lowe's breakthrough came in the 2023–24 season, where he earned his first start on 3 October 2023 against Southampton in the Championship.[21] His maiden goal arrived earlier that campaign, on 30 September 2023, when he scored the decisive strike in a 3–2 victory over Bristol City.[13] In recognition of his emerging role, Lowe extended his contract in January 2024 to a four-and-a-half-year deal running until June 2028.[22] Lowe's integration into the first team yielded 27 senior appearances and 2 goals across all competitions prior to his loans.[23] His second goal came on 18 January 2025, in a 1–1 draw with West Bromwich Albion following his mid-season recall.[14] However, with opportunities limited amid competition for places, the club opted to loan him out to provide regular match experience in lower divisions and further his development.[24]Walsall loan
On 22 August 2024, Nathan Lowe joined EFL League Two side Walsall on a season-long loan from Stoke City, with the agreement including a recall clause for the parent club.[25] This move provided the 18-year-old forward with his first extended opportunity in senior football, building on his limited first-team exposure at Stoke earlier that year.[26] Lowe quickly adapted to the demands of League Two, making 30 appearances, scoring 18 goals, and providing 7 assists across all competitions during his spell.[23] His prolific form played a key role in Walsall's strong promotion push, as the club topped the League Two table for much of the autumn and achieved a club-record eight consecutive league wins.[27] Standout contributions included a rapid brace in seven minutes against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Cup on 29 August 2024, sparking a comeback from 2-0 down to secure a 4-3 extra-time victory and advance Walsall to the third round for the first time in nine years; a long-range blockbuster against Harrogate Town; and decisive strikes in wins over Crewe Alexandra, AFC Wimbledon, and Notts County.[27] He also netted in each of his first five league outings, forming a potent partnership with veteran striker Jamille Matt.[5] Lowe's performances earned him individual recognition, including the EFL Young Player of the Month award for October 2024 after 10 goals in 18 matches, and the League Two Player of the Month for December 2024 following five goals in six league games.[28][29] His impact was such that he departed to a standing ovation from Walsall fans after the recall clause was activated by Stoke City on 12 January 2025.[30]Stockport County loan
On 30 July 2025, Nathan Lowe joined Stockport County on a season-long loan from Stoke City, lasting until the end of the 2025–26 season.[3][2] The move followed his prolific spell at Walsall in League Two earlier in 2025, where he built a strong goal-scoring reputation. Lowe, who is contracted to Stoke City until June 2028, was brought in to bolster the Hatters' forward line in League One, with the club viewing him as one of the brightest young talents available.[22][31][9] As of 18 November 2025, Lowe has made 19 appearances across all competitions, scoring 7 goals while adapting to the higher level of competition.[32] Primarily deployed as a starting centre-forward, he has contributed to Stockport's attacking dynamics by providing pace and finishing, often linking play with teammates in a fluid front line under manager Dave Challinor. His goals include a strike in a 2–2 League One draw against Leyton Orient on 16 August 2025, a brace in the EFL Trophy against Wolverhampton Wanderers U21 on 2 September 2025 helping secure a 5–3 win and progression in the competition, and a 66th-minute strike in a 1–0 victory over Exeter City on 18 October 2025.[33][34][35] Lowe's integration has been highlighted in notable matches, such as his 66th-minute strike in a 1–0 victory over Exeter City on 18 October 2025, after which he discussed his growing confidence and enjoyment of the physical demands of League One in a post-match interview.[36] These performances have underscored his role in Stockport's solid start to the season, with the young striker expressing optimism about contributing to a promotion push in his first club interview upon arrival.[37]International career
Early youth internationals
Nathan Lowe earned early recognition for his performances in the Stoke City academy, which paved the way for his introduction to the England youth international setup. However, his first official call-up came at the U19 level in October 2023, with no prior appearances recorded at U16 or U18 levels. This selection highlighted his rapid progression and potential as a forward, based on consistent goal-scoring form in youth competitions.[38] During his academy years, Lowe participated in training camps and development programs that aligned with national youth pathways, though specific pre-U19 international friendlies or caps are not documented. His breakthrough to the senior youth international scene underscored the impact of his club-level contributions in securing national attention.[39]England U19
Nathan Lowe received his first call-up to the England under-19 squad in October 2023, shortly after scoring his maiden Championship goal for Stoke City.[38][40] He made his debut as a substitute in the 65th minute of a 0–0 draw against Montenegro during the qualifying round for the 2024 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, held in Podgorica.[41][42] Lowe appeared in all three group matches for England, substituting in the 77th minute during a 1–1 draw with Wales and substituting in at the 80th minute during a 0–0 draw with Austria, where he nearly scored with a header that went close.[43][44][45] Despite his contributions, England finished third in Group 12 behind Austria and Montenegro, failing to advance to the elite round.[45][46] Lowe earned three caps at under-19 level without scoring, marking the highest youth international team he represented.[47] Reflecting on the experience, he described the initial call-up as a surprise, stating, "I was overwhelmed when I was rung by the Under-19 manager, and he confirmed to me that I would be involved."[48]Personal life
Education
Nathan Lowe attended Lymm High School in Cheshire, where he balanced his early football development with academic studies.[48] At the school, he completed a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sporting Excellence and Performance, achieving double distinction grades in 2023.[49] Following his time at Lymm High, Lowe undertook a League Football Education (LFE) apprenticeship as part of his progression in Stoke City's academy, which he successfully completed in the summer of 2024.[7] This program provided structured educational support tailored to young professional footballers, emphasizing personal and academic growth alongside athletic training.[7] After finishing his apprenticeship, Lowe enrolled in a three-year Business Management degree program facilitated by the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), with the aim of completing it by age 22.[50] He has continued to prioritize education amid his professional commitments, crediting his parents' insistence on maintaining strong academic performance as a condition for pursuing football.[49] This focus on formal qualifications reflects an early-life emphasis on building a well-rounded identity beyond the sport.[7]Off-field development
Nathan Lowe has demonstrated a strong commitment to hard work and discipline in his off-field pursuits, often emphasizing the importance of maintaining balance and structure beyond football training. In interviews, he has highlighted his dedication to personal routines that foster long-term growth, stating that developing an identity separate from the sport is crucial for his well-being.[5] Lowe's focus on mental resilience has been a key aspect of his personal development, particularly through regular sessions with sports psychologist David Galbraith, who has worked with elite athletes such as Olympic kayaker Lisa Carrington. He credits this work with enhancing his confidence and communication skills, noting, "It's such a massive part of the game now, the psychology element—it's half the battle," and describing how it has made him feel more integrated within his team environment.[51] Lowe continues monthly meetings to build these life skills, viewing himself as a person first rather than solely a footballer.[5] In terms of community involvement, Lowe has actively engaged with initiatives through the Stoke City Community Trust, earning him the title of Stoke City's Community Champion for the 2023/24 season, an award presented by the Professional Footballers' Association. He has dedicated significant time to off-field projects, including visiting schools to meet young fans, participating in recreational football activities, and attending celebration events across Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas.[52][53] Lowe has expressed pride in these efforts, remarking, “I’m proud to help the community... it’s a gift for me more than them,” and has been praised by club officials for going the extra mile to support supporters and youth.[5] His educational background further supports this holistic approach to growth by providing a foundation for broader life skills.[7]Career statistics
