Key Information
College career
[edit]Nassib received an athletic scholarship to attend Syracuse University, where he played for the Syracuse Orange football team from 2008 to 2012. He redshirted the 2008 season, sitting on the bench behind Cameron Dantley. Nassib was named as Syracuse's new starting quarterback during 2009 spring practices, jumping over Dantley and Andrew Robinson.[1] After just one week of fall practice, however, head coach Doug Marrone named Duke transfer Greg Paulus as the team's 2009 starter.[2] Backing up Paulus, Nassib played 10 games during the 2009 season where he played a role in specific offensive packages against Minnesota and Northwestern. Against Penn State, he completed 4-of-5 passes for 30 yards, including his first completion on his first career pass. He ended the 2009 season throwing for 422 yards and three touchdowns with a 116.69 QB rating.[3]

With the departure of Paulus, Ryan moved up the depth chart as he became the starter for the Orange for the 2010 season. Nassib threw at least one touchdown pass in eleven games as he tied for fourth on Syracuse's single-season record list with 19 touchdown passes. At Akron, Nassib led Syracuse to its first season-opening victory since 2003 as he threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns on 17 of 27 completions. Against Washington, he completed 17 of 35 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown as he also ran for 39 yards and one touchdown on seven carries. His 28-yard rushing touchdown was the first of his career. Against Maine, Nassib set a school record with five touchdown passes. Nassib piloted a 98-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter and a three-yard touchdown completion to Marcus Sales to win the game against South Florida. The Orange finished the 2010 season with a 7–5 record and a Pinstripe Bowl win with Ryan completing 13–21 pass attempts for 239 yards and three touchdowns, including a career long 52-yard completion. [citation needed]
In the 2011 season, he set the Syracuse single-season records for completion (259) and passing yards (2,685) and tied the mark for touchdown passes in one season (22). Down 15 points in the season opener against Wake Forest, Nassib led the Orange to a comeback win in overtime with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Van Chew. He finished the game completing 20 of 28 passes and 178 yards, including 8 consecutive passes in the fourth quarter and overtime. Nassib earned Big East Weekly Honor Roll recognition with a 25 for 37, 230 yard, one touchdown performance against USC. Nassib was once again named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll against Toledo as he completed 16 of 24 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns in an overtime victory. Although Syracuse ended the 2011 season with a disappointing 5–7 record, Nassib had a decent season as he had a .624 pass completion percentage record, 2,724 yards of total offense ranks second and 223.8 average passing yards.
Nassib started the 2012 season strong against Northwestern completing 45 of 66 passes for 482 yards and four touchdown passes as the Orange lost by a score of 41–42. His performance earned him Big East Offensive Player of the Week honors as he set Big East records for pass completions, pass attempts, and passing yards. Against the undefeated Louisville Cardinals in his last game at the Carrier Dome, Nassib led the Orange to a 45–26 victory as he completed 15 of 23 passes for 246 yards and 3 touchdown passes. With wins against Missouri and Temple, the Orange had a 7–5 record and were bowl-eligible. Syracuse beat West Virginia 38–14 in the Pinstripe Bowl. In his final college game, Nassib completed 12 of 24 passing attempts for 134 yards, 1 interception, and 2 touchdown passes. Nassib was named the National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Award winner presented by Fidelity Investments and he also made the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Team selection. The senior signal was named a to Pro Football Weekly's 2012 All-America Team. Nassib finished his career with Syracuse breaking the school total passing yards record (9,060), pass completions (780), and passing yards per game (201.3). Nassib became the fourth Big East quarterback to pass for more than 9,000 yards. [citation needed]

High school career
Ryan Nassib was born on March 10, 1990, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and attended Malvern Preparatory School in Malvern, Pennsylvania.[1][9] Nassib played quarterback for the Malvern Prep Friars football team from 2005 to 2007, serving as the starting signal-caller during his junior and senior seasons.[3] Under his leadership, the Friars captured the Inter-Ac League championship in 2007.[10] In his junior year of 2006, Nassib completed 68 of 130 passes for 1,402 yards and 17 touchdowns.[11][3] His senior season in 2007 saw him go 79 of 144 for 1,237 yards and 8 touchdowns, performances that earned him first-team all-league honors and third-team all-city recognition.[11][3] Over his high school career, he amassed 2,657 passing yards.[12] Beyond football, Nassib competed in basketball for the Friars, highlighting his multi-sport versatility.[13] For his excellence across athletics, he was named the Main Line Times 2007-08 Athlete of the Year for boys at private schools.[14] Nassib also excelled academically at Malvern Prep, earning distinction as one of the top students in his graduating class while balancing his athletic commitments.[15] His high school achievements drew recruitment interest from several college programs, leading to his commitment to Syracuse University.[16]College commitment to Syracuse
Ryan Nassib, a standout quarterback at Malvern Prep in Malvern, Pennsylvania, drew interest from multiple Division I college football programs during his high school career. He received scholarship offers from several notable schools, including Florida State, Iowa, Louisville, and Rutgers. On May 22, 2007, Nassib verbally committed to Syracuse University, marking him as an early addition to the Orange's 2008 recruiting class under head coach Greg Robinson.[17][18] Nassib formalized his commitment by signing a national letter of intent with Syracuse on February 6, 2008. The relatively close proximity of Syracuse, New York, to his hometown in Pennsylvania—approximately a four-hour drive—made the program an appealing choice for the Pennsylvania native. Additionally, Syracuse's offensive system, which featured elements suited to a pocket passer with a strong arm like Nassib's, aligned well with his playing style as a pro-style quarterback.[17][19] Upon enrolling at Syracuse University in the fall of 2008, Nassib ultimately pursued a double major in finance and accounting at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, graduating in May 2012. To aid his transition to college football, Nassib redshirted the 2008 season, using the year to build strength, refine his mechanics, and acclimate to the higher level of competition without burning a year of eligibility.[20][21] Academically, Nassib excelled alongside his athletic development, maintaining a cumulative GPA above 3.0 throughout his time at Syracuse. His strong performance in the classroom earned him spots on the Big East All-Academic Football Team in multiple years, a four-time selection (2009-2012), recognizing his balance of scholarly achievement and athletic participation. He finished with a 3.57 GPA upon graduation, further highlighting his dedication to academics.[22][5]College career
Playing years at Syracuse
Nassib began his playing career at Syracuse as a sophomore in 2009, serving primarily as the backup quarterback to Andrew Robinson following Greg Paulus's midseason departure. He appeared in 10 games, completing 36 of 68 passes for 422 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception, often contributing in specific offensive packages such as against Minnesota and Northwestern.[3][23] In 2010, Nassib transitioned to the starting role as a junior, leading the Orange to an 8-5 record and a berth in the Pinstripe Bowl, which they won 36-34 over Kansas State. He threw for 2,334 yards with 19 touchdowns and 8 interceptions on 202 completions out of 358 attempts, setting a school single-season record for completions at the time. His performance earned him Big East Offensive Player of the Week honors twice, including after a 229-yard, 2-touchdown effort in the season-opening win over Akron.[3][24][25] As a senior in 2011, Nassib started all 12 games, passing for 2,685 yards with 22 touchdowns and 9 interceptions on 259 of 415 attempts, tying the Syracuse single-season record for touchdown passes previously set by Donovan McNabb and Don McPherson. Despite the team's 5-7 finish, he established school records for completions and passing yards in a season, demonstrating growth in his role as the primary offensive leader.[3][24] Nassib's senior year in 2012 marked his most prolific season, as he threw for a school-record 3,749 yards with 26 touchdowns—another Syracuse record—and 10 interceptions on 294 of 471 attempts, earning him the team's Most Valuable Player award at the postseason banquet. He led the Orange to a 7-6 record, culminating in a 38-14 victory over West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium, where he contributed 130 passing yards and 2 touchdowns despite challenging snowy conditions. Over his career, Nassib showed marked improvement in accuracy, rising from 56.4% completion in 2010 to 62.4% in both 2011 and 2012, along with better decision-making evidenced by a career touchdown-to-interception ratio of 70:28. He capped his college tenure by participating in the 2013 Senior Bowl, enhancing his visibility ahead of the NFL Draft.[3][24][26][27]College statistics
Ryan Nassib appeared in 48 games over four seasons at Syracuse University from 2009 to 2012, starting 38 of them. His career passing totals include 791 completions on 1,312 attempts for 9,190 yards, 70 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions, with a 60.3% completion percentage. Nassib also added 242 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns during his collegiate career.[24][3][28] The following table provides a year-by-year breakdown of his passing statistics:| Year | Games (Started) | Completions | Attempts | Yards | Touchdowns | Interceptions | Passer Rating |

2013 NFL Draft and New York Giants
The New York Giants selected Ryan Nassib in the fourth round (110th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.[30] To secure the pick, the Giants traded their fourth-round selection (116th overall) and sixth-round selection (187th overall) to the Arizona Cardinals, who had originally acquired the 110th pick from the San Diego Chargers earlier in the draft process.[31] Nassib was one of four quarterbacks chosen in the fourth round, joining Matt Barkley (98th overall, Philadelphia Eagles), Tyler Wilson (112th overall, Oakland Raiders), and Landry Jones (115th overall, Pittsburgh Steelers).[32] Pre-draft evaluations projected him as a mid-round prospect, praising his above-average arm strength for making throws with velocity but noting concerns over inconsistent footwork and limited elite mobility.[33][34] Nassib signed a four-year rookie contract with the Giants worth $2.613 million, including a signing bonus of $453,600.[35] He entered the league as the third-string quarterback behind starter Eli Manning and backup Curtis Painter.[36] During the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Nassib primarily contributed on the practice squad and in preseason games, with limited regular-season opportunities.[37] In the 2014 preseason, he appeared in all four games, completing 44 of 74 passes for 588 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions, helping the Giants secure several comeback wins.[38] In the 2014 regular season, Nassib appeared in four games, completing 4 of 5 passes for 60 yards, all in a Week 6 relief appearance against the Philadelphia Eagles on October 12.[1] In 2015, Nassib appeared in one regular-season game, entering in relief of Manning against the Minnesota Vikings on December 27 and completing 5 of 5 passes for 68 yards and 1 touchdown.[1] Nassib's 2016 season was cut short by injury; after participating in training camp and preseason, he was placed on injured reserve on December 20 due to an elbow issue.[39]New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars
After being released by the New York Giants during the 2017 offseason, Nassib signed with the New Orleans Saints on June 13, 2017, as an unrestricted free agent.[40] He joined the quarterback group behind starter Drew Brees and backup Chase Daniel, with Garrett Grayson as the other reserve, positioning Nassib as a third-string option during training camp and preseason.[40] Nassib did not appear in any preseason games for the Saints and was released on September 2, 2017, as part of final roster cuts.[8] On September 18, 2017, shortly after his release from New Orleans, Nassib signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars' active roster, reuniting him with head coach Doug Marrone, who had coached him at Syracuse University.[8][41] In Jacksonville, he served as the third-string quarterback behind Blake Bortles and Cody Kessler, focusing on practice duties and scout team work without entering any regular-season games.[8] The Jaguars released Nassib on October 7, 2017, to make room for another player.[42] Following his release from Jacksonville, Nassib became an unrestricted free agent but did not sign with another NFL team, effectively concluding his active playing career in the league.[35]NFL career statistics
Nassib appeared in five regular-season games over two seasons with the New York Giants, completing 9 of 10 pass attempts for 128 yards with 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions, resulting in a career passer rating of 152.1.[7] His rushing contributions were negligible, with 2 carries for -3 yards and no touchdowns.[7] The following table summarizes his regular-season passing statistics:| Year | Team | Games | Starts | Completions | Attempts | Completion % | Yards | TDs | INTs | Passer Rating |
