Sachin Tendulkar was born at the Nirmal Nursing Home in the Dadar neighbourhood of Bombay, Maharashtra, into a Maharastrian family. His father, Ramesh Tendulkar, was a Marathi novelist and poet.

Tendulkar began his domestic cricket career with Mumbai, playing for the team from 1988 to 2013. He also played for Yorkshire in 1992 and East Bengal in 1994.
