Family background
Teagan Croft was born on April 23, 2004, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.[1][7] She is the daughter of Tim Croft and Rebecca McNamee, an actress, writer, director, and producer whose career in stage and screen helped shape a creative family environment in Sydney's northern suburbs.[8][9] Croft has two older sisters, Sage and Aubrey Croft, with whom she shares a close bond.[1] As the niece of actresses Penny McNamee and Jessica McNamee—sisters of her mother—Croft grew up surrounded by relatives active in the entertainment industry, providing early exposure that sparked her interest in performing arts during her childhood in Sydney.[8][9] This familial heritage in acting and production influenced family dynamics, encouraging a household oriented toward artistic pursuits before the family's relocation to Chicago in 2016.[8][9]Education and relocation
In 2016, at the age of 12, Teagan Croft and her family relocated from Sydney, Australia, to Chicago, Illinois, to pursue greater acting opportunities in the United States, and she was cast as Raven in the DC Universe series Titans the following year.[10][2] The transition brought significant challenges, including adapting to a new cultural environment and discontinuing her Australian schooling. Croft has described frequently moving during high school, which left her without consistent school friends at times and prompted her to build connections through online communities instead.[11] Due to her demanding acting schedule and frequent moves, she largely eschewed traditional classroom education.[11] As of April 2025, Croft is enrolled part-time in an English Literature degree with a minor in music theory at university, balancing her academic pursuits with her professional commitments.[12] This relocation at a young age fostered her cultural adaptability, allowing her to navigate the nuances of both Australian and American entertainment landscapes.Career
Theater debut and early roles
Teagan Croft made her professional acting debut at the age of nine, portraying Scout Finch in a Sydney production of To Kill a Mockingbird at the New Theatre from March to April 2014. Adapted from Harper Lee's novel, the play featured Croft alongside child actors Hudson Musty and Kai Lewins as her siblings, with Lynden Jones in the lead role of Atticus Finch. Her performance as the tomboyish narrator was praised for its consistency and natural energy, marking the start of her on-stage career in Australian theater.[13] Transitioning to screen work, Croft secured her feature film debut as Indi Sommerville, a resourceful young girl navigating a dystopian crisis, in the Australian science fiction thriller The Osiris Child (2016), directed by Shane Abbess. Filmed when she was 11, the role opposite Kellan Lutz and Daniel MacPherson highlighted her ability to handle improvisation and emotional depth in a high-stakes narrative. Prior to the family's relocation to the United States, she also appeared in a recurring capacity as Bella Loneragan, the rebellious daughter of a single father, across five episodes of the long-running Australian soap opera Home and Away in 2016. These early screen roles, completed in Australia, built on her theatrical foundation and garnered attention for her poised presence.[14][15]Breakthrough with Titans
In August 2017, at the age of 13, Teagan Croft was cast as Rachel Roth / Raven in the live-action series Titans, representing her breakthrough into major international television and serving as the first live-action adaptation of the iconic DC Comics character.[16] The series Titans (2018–2023) aired for four seasons, with the first two streaming exclusively on DC Universe and the final two on HBO Max, across its 49 episodes, with Croft appearing in 38 episodes throughout.[17][18] Croft's portrayal traces Rachel Roth's arc from a vulnerable, troubled teenager haunted by visions and her demonic heritage—particularly her father, the inter-dimensional demon Trigon—to a maturing hero who harnesses her empathic and mystical powers, culminating in her transformation into the White Raven form.[19] Key plot elements include her struggle to control dark impulses, her integration into the Titans team alongside characters like Dick Grayson and Gar Logan, and pivotal arcs involving apocalyptic threats tied to her lineage, which deepen her bonds and personal growth within the group.[19] Critics lauded Croft's performance for its emotional nuance and authenticity, highlighting her ability to capture Raven's inner turmoil and resilience despite her youth, with outlets praising how she elevated the character beyond typical brooding teen tropes to deliver compelling depth.[20][21] This role catapulted Croft's visibility in Hollywood, positioning her as a standout young talent in the superhero landscape and opening doors to further opportunities in the industry.[11]Post-Titans projects
Following the conclusion of her role on Titans in 2023, Teagan Croft transitioned to a range of film projects, showcasing her versatility in lead and supporting capacities across biographical dramas and independent shorts.[1] In 2023, Croft starred as Jessica Watson in the Netflix biographical film True Spirit, directed by Sarah Spillane, portraying the real-life Australian teenager who became the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop, and unassisted around the world at age 16 in 2010.[4] The film, based on Watson's memoir True Spirit: The Story of Youngest Solo Circumnavigator, highlights her determination and challenges during the 210-day voyage, with Croft's performance earning praise for capturing the sailor's resilience and youthful spirit. Co-starring Anna Paquin and Cliff Curtis, the production was filmed primarily in Australia and emphasized practical sailing sequences to authentically depict Watson's journey. Earlier, in 2022, Croft took on supporting roles in two independent short films directed by Rebecca McNamee. She played Bella Judge, a teenager navigating independence and family pressures, in Bella and Bernie, a coming-of-age story about two confidantes exploring sexuality under the scrutiny of an evangelical mother.[22] The film premiered at festivals including the LA Shorts International Film Festival and Cinequest, where it was selected for best drama.[23] Croft reprised the character of Bella Judge in the sequel short Woman of a Certain Sage, which follows her estranged from family and intersecting lives with a newcomer to Chicago, blending themes of isolation and self-discovery across generations.[24] Also serving as an executive producer on both projects, Croft contributed to their festival runs, including awards for editing and drama.[25] Looking ahead, Croft has lined up lead roles in genre-driven features. She portrays Jessa in Alphas, an upcoming shark thriller directed by Liam O'Donnell, where a coastal community unleashes a damaged killer whale to combat a great white shark threat; the film entered pre-production in early 2024 and remains slated for release in 2025 or later.[26] Additionally, Croft stars as Becca, a 16-year-old passenger entangled with a serial killer taxi driver played by Joe Cole, in the contemporary thriller Override, directed by Natasha Merkulova and Alexey Chupov; the project wrapped principal photography and was in post-production as of April 2024, with a 2025 release anticipated.[27][5] At age 21, Croft's post-Titans selections reflect a deliberate move toward diverse narratives, from inspirational biopics and intimate indie dramas to high-stakes thrillers, allowing her to explore mature themes of survival, identity, and human connection beyond superhero genres.[6]Personal life
Croft has two younger sisters, including Sage Croft. Her parents are Tim Croft and Rebecca McNamee-Croft, the latter a writer and director of stage and screen. She is the niece of actresses Penny McNamee and Jessica McNamee.[2] Croft writes her own songs and is an avid reader.[2]Filmography
