South Korean singer and songwriter Kang Daniel has released one studio album (which was reissued under a different title), ten extended plays (EPs)—seven of which were Korean, two of which were Japanese, and one in English—and more than 30 singles (including two features, five promotional singles, and four soundtrack appearances). As of August 2023, Kang has sold 2 million albums as a solo artist and an additional 4.2 million as a part of Wanna One.

Following the end of Wanna One's activities as a group, Kang released his first solo EP, Color on Me, in July 2019 under his newly formed one-man agency Konnect Entertainment.[1] The EP debuted at number one on South Korea's Gaon Album Chart and entered Japan's Oricon Albums Chart at number 23. It also broke two records selling over 500,000 physical copies within the first month of its release.[2][3] In March 2020, Kang released his second EP, Cyan, as the first installment of his "color trilogy" project. It peaked atop South Korea's Gaon Album Chart with its lead single "2U" giving Kang his first top ten track in Korea, which peaked at number seven on the Gaon Digital Chart.[4] His third EP, Magenta, was released in August 2020 and served as the second installment of his three-part color series.[5] The digital single "Paranoia", released in February 2021, marked Kang's first solo appearance on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart with the single debuting at number five. It also gave Kang his first top five track in Korea, which peaked at number two on the Gaon Digital Chart. In April 2021, Kang released his fourth overall EP, Yellow, as the final installment of his three-part project aimed to find his true colors as a solo artist. It peaked atop South Korea's Gaon Album Chart with its lead single "Antidote" giving Kang his first number one track on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart.

Extended plays

Korean extended plays

Kang Daniel's Korean extended plays form a cornerstone of his solo discography, marking his transition from Wanna One member to independent artist following the group's disbandment in 2019. These releases, primarily mini-albums containing 5-7 tracks, have showcased his evolution from vibrant, color-inspired concepts to more introspective and performance-oriented themes, consistently achieving commercial success in the domestic market through strong physical and digital sales. Released under Konnect Entertainment until 2023 and later ARA Inc., his EPs have topped or entered the top 10 of South Korea's Circle Album Chart (formerly Gaon), with early installments earning platinum certifications from the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) for surpassing 250,000 units sold. His debut EP, Color on Me, launched the color-themed trilogy that defined his initial solo era, emphasizing youthful energy and self-expression through tracks like the lead single "Touchin'." This series continued with Cyan and Magenta, exploring emotional depth and relationships, before culminating in Yellow, which blended retro aesthetics with personal growth narratives. Subsequent EPs like REALIEZ shifted toward reality and resilience themes, while ACT highlighted high-energy performances and stage presence, reflecting his background as a dancer. The 2025 release Glow to Haze further evolved this progression, incorporating hazy, transitional motifs amid a tracklist led by "Episode," underscoring his adaptability in a maturing solo career. The following table summarizes key commercial data for Kang Daniel's Korean extended plays, focusing on domestic performance metrics:

The color series, in particular, received acclaim for its cohesive visual and sonic identity, earning him awards like the Circle Chart Music Award for Album of the Year in 2020 for . Later works under ARA Inc. signal a new phase, prioritizing artistic experimentation over sheer commercial volume, as seen in ACT's focus on dynamic choreography and Glow to Haze's atmospheric production.

Japanese extended plays

Kang Daniel entered the Japanese music market with his debut Joy Ride, released on October 5, 2022, through Warner Music in CD and digital formats. The EP features six tracks, including the "TPIR" featuring Japanese guitarist , as well as Japanese-language versions of previous hits like "Upside Down" and "Ride 4 U," and a "Loser" with Japanese rapper . This release marked his first project tailored for Japanese audiences, blending original content with localized adaptations to appeal to international fans. His second Japanese EP, Re8el (stylized in all caps), followed on November 29, 2023, also via Warner Music Japan in CD and digital formats. Comprising four tracks, it includes the title track "Re8el," an original song "Worst Day Ever," and Japanese versions of "Supernova" and "SOS" from his Korean EP Realiez. The EP was promoted through the "KANGDANIEL JAPAN SHOWCASE 2024 'RE8EL'" held on January 14, 2024, at NHK Hall in Tokyo, enhancing its visibility in the market. Unlike Joy Ride, which emphasized collaborations with local artists, Re8el focused more on reinterpreting recent Korean material for Japanese listeners.

Several non-single tracks from Kang Daniel's extended plays have garnered significant attention on South Korean music charts, often driven by strong fan streaming and album sales momentum. These B-sides and album cuts frequently enter realtime and weekly rankings on platforms like Melon and Genie, as well as official download and digital charts from Gaon (now Circle Chart), reflecting their popularity beyond lead promotions. From his second EP Cyan (2020), the track "2U" emerged as a standout, debuting at No. 1 on the Gaon Download Chart for the week of March 22–28, 2020, and peaking at No. 7 on the Gaon Digital Chart overall. This success contributed to Cyan's triple crown achievement, with "2U" accumulating over 26 million digital points in its monthly tally. The song's upbeat vibe and replay value fueled fan-driven streaming campaigns, helping it maintain top positions amid competition from major releases. Kang Daniel's fourth EP (2021) saw even broader chart penetration, with every track debuting in the top 40 on the Gaon Download Chart. Non-lead tracks included "Save U" (featuring ) at No. 21 and "Digital" at No. 40, all benefiting from the album's No. 1 debut on the Gaon Album Chart and heightened listener interest in its color-themed narrative. These peaks underscored the EP's cohesive tracklist, where B-sides like "Save U" resonated through its collaborative rap elements and emotional lyrics. In 2025, tracks from his sixth EP Glow to Haze continued this trend, with B-side "Love Game" entering realtime charts at No. 45 upon release in , supported by fan efforts during the album's promotional cycle. These performances align with Kang Daniel's established pattern of album-deep appeal, where non-singles often surge via dedicated streaming pushes, following the title track ""'s No. 1 debut on the Circle Download Chart.

Songwriting credits

Kang Daniel has been actively involved in songwriting since his debut with , where he co-wrote the track "" for their album 1÷x=1 (Undivided), marking his initial foray into lyrics that explored group dynamics and youth. As a solo artist, his contributions have primarily focused on lyric writing, often infusing personal introspection and emotional vulnerability, as seen in his debut EP Color On Me (2019), where he penned lyrics for all five tracks, including the title song "Color" and "What Are You Up To." This hands-on approach continued across his discography, evolving toward more collaborative processes in later releases like The Story (2022), for which he served as the primary lyricist on every song, delving into themes of self-discovery and resilience. By 2023–2025, his songwriting expanded to include composition credits in select works, such as the English single "" and digital single "NO DAY," reflecting a maturation in production involvement amid themes of inner conflict and hope. The following table lists his verified songwriting credits, adapted from the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) and supplemented by track-specific details from official lyric sources. Roles are predominantly lyrics unless otherwise noted, with representative co-writers highlighted for brevity.

Notes

Kang Daniel's artist management shifted from KONNECT Entertainment to ARA Inc. after KONNECT's closure on June 9, 2024, with all subsequent releases, including the EP Act (September 23, 2024) and Glow to Haze (June 16, 2025), credited to ARA Inc. under distribution by Warner Music Korea. In South Korean music classifications, Act is designated as a mini album or extended play (EP), with the terms frequently overlapping in K-pop contexts to denote shorter-form releases typically containing 5–8 tracks; it is officially his fifth mini album per ARA Inc. announcements. The mini album Glow to Haze adhered to its announced schedule, with pre-orders opening in late May 2025 following the May 23 reveal, culminating in the June 16 release without documented delays. Chart performance data for Kang Daniel's releases draws from the Circle Chart, which rebranded from the Gaon Chart in July 2022 and continues its predecessor’s methodology of aggregating physical album sales from certified retailers, digital downloads, and streaming equivalents on a weekly and monthly basis; pre-2022 figures remain accessible via Gaon archives on the same platform. Sales certifications follow Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) rules, requiring 250,000 units for status on domestic albums, with aggregated totals combining first-week Hanteo and subsequent Circle monthly reports. International metrics for Japan-specific releases, such as the single Watercolor (October 22, 2025), utilize Japan's Hot 100 and download charts, which emphasize a blend of physical , digital streams, radio airplay, and video views, differing from 's Korea-centric focus on domestic consumption. As of November 2025, full aggregation for recent 2025 releases like Watercolor remains pending, with initial Hanteo first-day figures available but comprehensive monthly data and KMCA certifications expected in subsequent reports; unconfirmed reissues of earlier works, such as potential repackages of Act, lack official verification from ARA Inc. Primary sources for discography verification include ARA Inc.'s official announcements and archives.
