Founding and early years
Livspace was founded in July 2014 in Bengaluru, India, by Anuj Srivastava, who serves as CEO, and Ramakant Sharma, both IIT Kanpur alumni with prior experience at Google and Myntra, respectively.[5] The company was incorporated that month, with operations officially launching in Bengaluru in January 2015.[6] From its inception, Livspace operated as an online platform focused on connecting homeowners with interior designers and renovation services, addressing the fragmented home interiors market in India.[7] It adopted a three-sided marketplace model that integrated homeowners, certified designers, and suppliers to streamline the design and execution process.[8] In December 2015, Livspace introduced its first major product line, consisting of private-label modular kitchens and wardrobes, which were rolled out initially in Bengaluru alongside expansions to New Delhi and Mumbai.[9] This marked a shift toward end-to-end service delivery, combining design consultation with product manufacturing and installation.Initial expansions in India
Following its founding in Bengaluru, Livspace began scaling operations across India in 2016 by expanding into major metropolitan areas, starting with launches in Mumbai and Thane. This move allowed the company to tap into larger urban markets, completing over 1,000 home interior projects that year.[1][10] The expansion included openings in Delhi-NCR, including Noida and Gurgaon, enabling broader access to northern customers seeking end-to-end interior design services.[11][12] To enhance customer engagement during this phase, Livspace introduced virtual reality (VR)-enabled design stores in 2016, featuring immersive experiences in Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurugram, and Mumbai. These studios allowed clients to visualize customized interiors in a more interactive way, integrating technology to bridge the gap between digital planning and physical realization.[13] This innovation supported the company's growth by improving design consultations and contributing to the completion of modular and full-home projects across new cities.[14] By 2018, Livspace marked a significant milestone in southern India with its entry into Hyderabad, launching operations there in August to capture the region's burgeoning demand for modern home renovations.[15] This expansion, part of a broader push into Chennai and Pune that year, resulted in over 5,000 homes designed nationwide and strengthened the company's footprint in tier-1 southern markets.[1][16] The period also saw the establishment of initial Experience Centres to showcase designs and materials, with openings in Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai in 2016, followed by one in Gurgaon in 2017. These centres served as hubs for customer interactions, demonstrating modular furniture and full interiors to build trust and drive adoption. Early infrastructure efforts laid the groundwork for larger facilities, emphasizing scalable supply chains. To support modular solutions, Livspace formed initial partnerships with suppliers, introducing private-label options for kitchens and wardrobes that integrated into its offerings like Livspace Select for budget-friendly modular products.[1][17] These collaborations ensured reliable sourcing and customization, aligning with the company's expansion strategy through 2018.[5]Business model and services
Core offerings
Livspace provides end-to-end home interior design and renovation services, encompassing initial consultation, customized design planning, material selection, execution of civil works, custom furniture installation, and final handover. These services cover full-home transformations, including kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms, and bathrooms, with a focus on high-quality deliverables such as false ceilings, flooring, tiling, and cladding. The company guarantees a 45-day move-in timeline for projects and includes 146 quality checks throughout the process, backed by a flat 10-year warranty on services.[18] In addition to comprehensive renovations, Livspace offers modular furniture solutions tailored for kitchens, wardrobes, and living spaces, drawing from a catalog exceeding 20 lakh products to enable customizable and space-efficient designs. Under Livspace Select, the company provides customizable, budget-friendly modular solutions for areas like kitchens, wardrobes, TV units, and bookshelves. In June 2024, Livspace launched Vinciago as its premium interior design brand, curating high-end, unique design and product options that integrate seamlessly into residential interiors. These offerings prioritize functionality and aesthetics, allowing customers to select pre-designed modules or personalize components for optimal home utilization.[18][1][19] Livspace expanded its portfolio in 2022 with commercial interior services through Livspace for Business, targeting offices, retail spaces, hospitality venues, and warehouses. This B2B vertical provides specialized design and execution for corporate clients, including notable partnerships with entities like WeWork, Decathlon, McDonald's, and Domino's Pizza, addressing the growing demand in India's commercial sector which saw approximately 30% growth in major cities during that period.[20] To support scalability, Livspace operates a franchise model for its interior design and furniture business, requiring an initial investment of approximately INR 20–25 lakhs per store, which covers setup, training, and marketing support from the brand. Franchisees receive support in hiring and training staff.[10] The customer journey at Livspace begins with design customization through consultations with over 3,500 designers, followed by material sourcing from vetted suppliers and comprehensive project management to ensure timely delivery and quality assurance. This process is supported by digital tools for visualization and estimation, enabling seamless tracking from inspiration to completion across key markets like India.[18]Technology and platforms
Livspace operates as a three-sided marketplace through its online platform, connecting homeowners with over 2,000 certified interior designers and a network of suppliers for home design products and services.[1][7] This model facilitates seamless collaboration, enabling designers to access tools for project execution while suppliers manage inventory and logistics directly on the platform.[5] The company introduced virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) tools to enable virtual design visualization, allowing customers to experience proposed interiors in immersive walkthroughs before finalizing decisions.[21] These technologies integrate with the platform's design automation features, which were launched in 2016 to streamline the creation of customized home layouts.[5] By 2017, VR-enabled experience centers began incorporating these tools for in-person demonstrations.[22] Livspace incorporates design-tech integrations such as machine learning (ML) algorithms for personalized design recommendations, analyzing user preferences to suggest tailored interior options.[23] Additionally, dedicated project tracking applications provide real-time monitoring of manufacturing, delivery, and installation phases, ensuring transparency and efficiency across the renovation process.[24] An omnichannel strategy blends the digital platform with physical infrastructure, including over 123 Experience Centres across more than 95 cities as of mid-2025, where customers can book consultations online and explore designs in immersive settings.[25] This approach supports hybrid interactions, from virtual bookings to on-site VR previews.[26] Livspace leverages data analytics to optimize its supply chain, using real-time dashboards and data lakes to manage pricing, inventory, and logistics for on-demand manufacturing.[24] These analytics also generate customer insights, informing personalized service enhancements and operational efficiencies.[23]Operations by region
India
India serves as Livspace's primary market, accounting for approximately 85% of its operating revenue in FY25. The company maintains a robust operational footprint across more than 90 cities, including major urban centers such as Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, and Hyderabad, as well as tier-2 locations like Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kochi, and Lucknow. This extensive presence enables Livspace to cater to diverse regional preferences in home interiors, leveraging a network that supports end-to-end design and renovation services nationwide.[27][28][1] Livspace operates over 150 Experience Centres and studios across India, providing customers with immersive showrooms to visualize designs and materials. These facilities, which include company-owned and franchise-owned outlets, emphasize hands-on consultations and customization. The company plans to expand this infrastructure to more than 200 centres spanning over 100 cities by March 2026, driven by a franchise-led growth strategy that requires an investment of INR 2–2.5 million per store to accelerate penetration into emerging markets. This model combines proprietary technology for virtual planning with physical touchpoints to streamline the renovation process.[29][28][25] To ensure quality and efficiency in material sourcing, Livspace collaborates with local suppliers and leverages its strategic partnership with IKEA's Ingka Group, which facilitates access to global sourcing networks and product portfolios. This alliance, stemming from Ingka's investment, allows Livspace to integrate affordable, sustainable materials into its offerings while supporting supply chain synergies for the Indian market. Such partnerships are crucial for maintaining cost-effectiveness in modular furniture and fittings.[30][31] Livspace holds a leadership position in India's organized home interiors sector, particularly targeting urban middle-class households seeking renovations that blend functionality with modern aesthetics. With a focus on premium and mass-premium segments, the company has consolidated its dominance amid rising demand from expanding urban populations. In FY25, these operations generated Rs 1,460 crore in revenue for the group, underscoring Livspace's scale in delivering comprehensive interior solutions annually through its franchise-driven expansion.[32][33][34]Singapore
Livspace launched its operations in Singapore on October 30, 2019, establishing the city-state as its headquarters and the base for Asia-Pacific expansion, with an initial investment of US$30 million to build local teams and supply chains.[26][35] The entry targeted Singapore's fragmented home interiors market, offering end-to-end design, renovation, and modular furniture services through a technology platform that streamlines visualization, budgeting, and execution.[36] In January 2021, Livspace partnered with IKEA Singapore to launch the country's first stand-alone planning studio at Jurong Point, integrating Livspace's design and renovation expertise with IKEA's retail offerings for personalized home solutions.[37] This collaboration provided customers with one-stop services, including 3D planning, product selection, and project management, particularly for HDB BTO flats and condominiums, with packages starting from S$9,900.[38] The Jurong Point studio, which operated until July 2023, enabled in-person consultations and showcased tech-driven designs in a competitive urban market.[39][40] By 2022, Livspace expanded its physical presence with a flagship experience center in Suntec City and additional centers in Balestier and East Coast, alongside its headquarters at United Square, to better serve Singapore's urban residential clientele.[41][42] These multiple studios support a workforce of over 100 design professionals, emphasizing high-end residential renovations with a focus on customized interiors for apartments and landed properties.[43] Livspace's tech-enabled platform facilitates quick turnarounds, offering a 45-day move-in guarantee, 146 quality checks, and proprietary tools for 2D/3D visualization to ensure efficient project delivery in Singapore's fast-paced housing sector.[44]Saudi Arabia
Livspace entered the Saudi Arabian market in 2021 through a $25 million joint venture with the Alsulaiman Group (ASG), aimed at expanding its home interiors and renovation services across the Middle East, starting with the Kingdom.[45][46] This 50:50 partnership leverages ASG's over 40 years of local market expertise and regional presence to integrate Livspace's technology-driven platform with Saudi-specific insights.[47] The joint venture launched a home design and development technology platform customized to Saudi preferences, emphasizing high-quality, customer-specified interiors that align with local living standards and national development goals.[4][47] Initial operations focused on residential interiors in major cities such as Riyadh and Jeddah, where Livspace established dedicated studios to provide end-to-end services from design consultation to installation.[48] These studios, operational as of 2025, incorporate elements like modular and full-home interiors suited to the region's demands.[4] Livspace aims to become the largest platform in Saudi Arabia by capitalizing on ASG's established networks and investing in localized growth strategies.[49] Amid a burgeoning interior design market projected to reach $33.90 billion by 2030, this expansion aligns with broader Middle East objectives, adapting core technologies for regional efficiency while prioritizing residential solutions.[50][47]Malaysia
Livspace expanded into Malaysia in 2022 through a partnership with IKEA, offering interior design and renovation services starting at IKEA stores in Kuala Lumpur. This collaboration provides end-to-end solutions, including 3D planning and project execution, tailored to Malaysian residential needs such as apartments and landed homes. As of 2025, Livspace maintains an active presence with a team of designers and has completed numerous projects, leveraging its technology platform for visualization and quality assurance. Operations focus on urban markets, supporting the company's Asia-Pacific growth strategy.[51][52]Growth and expansion
Geographic and market expansion
Livspace began diversifying its portfolio beyond residential interiors in 2022 by entering the commercial sector, targeting offices, retail outlets, hospitality venues, and warehousing facilities to capitalize on growing demand in non-residential design services.[53] The company initiated its international expansion into the Middle East in 2021 through a joint venture with Alsulaiman Group, establishing Saudi Arabia as its flagship market to leverage the region's burgeoning real estate and interiors sector.[54] To scale operations domestically, Livspace outlined plans to extend its presence to over 100 cities in India by 2026, primarily through a franchise-owned-franchise-operated (FOFO) model that enables localized growth while maintaining brand standards.[29] This strategy supports an anticipated increase in its store network from more than 150 locations in 2025 to over 200 by March 2026, enhancing accessibility for customers across urban and tier-II markets.[29] In preparation for an initial public offering, Livspace plans to file for a domicile reversal from Singapore to India during the 2025-2026 period, aligning its corporate structure with its primary market to facilitate listing on Indian exchanges.[55]Acquisitions and investments
Livspace has engaged in several acquisitions and strategic investments to bolster its capabilities in design, technology, and supply chain management, marking a key aspect of its inorganic growth strategy. In early 2015, the company completed three acquisitions to build its foundational ecosystem in India. In March, Livspace acquired DezignUp, a design community and marketplace connecting professionals with homeowners, enabling it to expand its decor offerings and integrate a core team of designers.[56] In May, it acquired Dwll.in, a curated online network of interior designers, which enhanced access to specialized talent and supported end-to-end home design services.[57] By September, Livspace acquired YoFloor, a mobile platform providing virtual trial rooms and 3D visualization for home designs, allowing customers to preview renovations digitally and improving designer productivity.[58] Following a period of organic scaling, Livspace pursued international expansion through acquisition. In December 2021, it acquired a majority stake in Qanvast, a Singapore-based platform that connects homeowners with interior designers and renovation professionals, strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia and integrating community-driven design insights.[59] To sustain this momentum, the company earmarked $100 million in October 2022 specifically for strategic acquisitions targeting complementary assets in the home interiors sector.[60] In August 2025, Livspace made a strategic investment of over $5.5 million for an undisclosed stake in TPlusA, a Bengaluru-based furniture manufacturing startup specializing in premium hardware and accessories, aimed at enhancing supply chain efficiency and vertical integration.[61] Overall, these three full acquisitions, one majority stake—along with targeted investments—have focused on technology platforms and supply chain enhancements, directly supporting Livspace's broader market expansion efforts.Funding and financials
Investment rounds
Livspace began its funding journey with a Series A round of $4.6 million in December 2014, backed by Helion Venture Partners, Jungle Ventures, and Bessemer Venture Partners.[62] This initial capital supported the company's early operations in providing end-to-end home interior design and renovation services in India.[63] Subsequent rounds built on this foundation, with a notable Series C investment of $70 million in September 2018, led by TPG Growth and including participation from Goldman Sachs.[63] The funding enabled expansion into new markets and enhancements to its digital platform. By the end of 2021, Livspace had accumulated approximately $270 million in total funding across multiple rounds from a diverse set of investors, including early backers like Helion Venture Partners and later participants such as TPG and IKEA's Ingka Investments.[64] The company's growth trajectory culminated in a Series F round of $180 million in February 2022, led by KKR with contributions from IKEA, Jungle Ventures, Venturi Partners, and Peugeot Investments.[65] This round propelled Livspace to unicorn status, with a post-money valuation surpassing $1 billion.[65]| Round Type | Date | Amount Raised | Lead Investor(s) | Key Other Investors |
