Online career

[edit]

Barn joined YouTube in 2010; having played games with his friends, he got into watching YouTubers and making videos of their own. Eventually, he decided to launch his own channel, initially creating gaming and tutorial videos on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.[11] As his popularity increased, he began to take it more seriously, branching out into Minecraft.[11]

Vikram Singh Barn (born 2 August 1995), better known by his online alias Vikkstar123, is an English YouTuber, DJ, music producer, and esports executive.[1] He is a founding member of the Sidemen, a prominent British YouTube collective consisting of seven creators who produce collaborative gaming, challenge, and lifestyle content.[2] Barn first rose to prominence through his individual YouTube channel, launched in 2010, where he specializes in gameplay videos featuring titles such as Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto, and Call of Duty, amassing over 7 million subscribers as of 2025.[3][4] Born in Guildford, Surrey, to parents of Indian descent, Barn is the youngest of three brothers and relocated with his family to Sheffield, South Yorkshire, at the age of nine. He attended Silverdale School, achieving strong academic results including multiple A* grades in his GCSEs in 2011 and top A-level scores in 2013, before pursuing a career in content creation instead of higher education.[5] Joining the Sidemen in October 2013 alongside creators like KSI, Miniminter, and Zerkaa, Barn contributed to the group's rapid growth, with their main channel having over 22 million subscribers as of November 2025 and producing weekly videos that blend humor, competitions, and philanthropy, including annual charity football matches raising millions for various charities, such as BBC Children in Need.[2][6] Beyond YouTube, Barn has diversified into music and esports; he released tracks under his Vikkstar moniker, including collaborations with artists like Adalaide Adams, and embarked on DJ tours supporting acts such as Alan Walker in 2024.[7] In 2021, he became co-owner of the London Royal Ravens, a professional Call of Duty League team, aiming to expand the esports scene in the UK through investments and community initiatives.[8] Personally, Barn married Ellie Harlow in September 2023 after a four-year relationship, blending Christian and Indian traditions in a ceremony held in Malta.[9]

Early life

Family background

Vikram Singh Barn, known professionally as Vikkstar123, was born on 2 August 1995 in Guildford, Surrey, England, to parents of Indian descent who hold British nationality.[10] Barn is the youngest of three brothers, with two older siblings who have maintained a low public profile and have not appeared in his online content.[10] At the age of nine, Barn's family relocated from Guildford to Sheffield, [South Yorkshire](/page/South Yorkshire).[11] This transition shaped his early years, where he developed an interest in technology and gaming.[12]

Education

Vikram Barn completed his secondary education at Silverdale School in Sheffield, where he attended from 2006 until 2013 and demonstrated strong academic performance, achieving 12 A* grades in his GCSE examinations in 2011.[13][14] In his A-levels, taken in physics, biology, chemistry, and mathematics, Barn achieved A*AAA in 2013, results sufficient to secure an offer for the Natural Sciences program at University College London starting in 2014.[5][15] Rather than enrolling, Barn chose to take a gap year to focus on his growing interest in online content creation, ultimately declining the university place to commit fully to his YouTube career, driven by a deeper passion for gaming and its creative opportunities compared to a conventional engineering or scientific path.[5][16] During his school years, he had begun balancing early video uploads with coursework and extracurricular demands, which highlighted the greater personal fulfillment and emerging financial viability of content creation over traditional academics.[5] His family provided support during this transition, though they initially encouraged pursuing formal higher education.[5]

Online career

YouTube beginnings

Vikram Singh Barn, known online as Vikkstar123, created his main YouTube channel on April 12, 2010, at the age of 14. Initially operating under the handle "vikkstar123," he began uploading content sporadically as a hobby while still in school, with early videos focusing on Call of Duty Let's Plays before transitioning to Minecraft gameplay. This shift proved pivotal, as Barn uploaded his first dedicated Minecraft video, titled "Minecraft - Episode 1," on July 18, 2011, marking the start of his signature gaming series.[17][18] Barn's early content centered on Minecraft Let's Plays, survival series, and mod showcases, which resonated with a growing audience of young gamers. He maintained a consistent upload schedule of 3-5 videos per week, often recording basic PC gameplay sessions in his bedroom setup using simple screen capture software like Fraps and editing with free tools such as Windows Movie Maker. This dedication helped build a dedicated community, with his technical approach evolving by 2013 to include professional editing software like Sony Vegas Pro and improved audio equipment for clearer commentary.[18] A key milestone came in 2012 when Barn reached 100,000 subscribers, fueled by organic growth and initial collaborations with small UK-based gamers who shared similar Minecraft interests, such as joint survival challenges and mod reviews. By 2014, his channel had surged to 1 million subscribers, solidifying his position in the burgeoning UK YouTube gaming scene and allowing him to pursue content creation full-time after declining a university offer.[18][19]

Sidemen formation and role

The Sidemen collective was officially formed on 19 October 2013 by six British YouTubers: KSI (Olajide Olatunji), Zerkaa (Joshua Bradley), Miniminter (Simon Minter), TBJzl (Tobi Brown), Behzinga (Ethan Payne), and Vikkstar123 (Vikram Barn), initially collaborating on gaming content such as Grand Theft Auto V sessions.[20][21] Vikkstar123's invitation stemmed from his rising popularity in solo Minecraft videos, where he had built a dedicated audience through series like Skywars and modded adventures.[22] Within the group, Vikkstar123 emerged as the tech-savvy member, taking responsibility for video editing, thumbnail design, graphics, and strategic planning for challenges, while his composed and analytical demeanor provided a steady counterbalance to the more boisterous personalities of his collaborators.[22] This role was particularly vital in the group's early days, as they produced collaborative videos on individual channels before launching their dedicated Sidemen YouTube channel in May 2016.[21] Key milestones included the release of their first major collaborative videos in 2014, which helped solidify their group dynamic, and the members' relocation to a shared house near London in early 2014 to streamline filming and foster creativity.[23] By 2017, the Sidemen's combined individual channels had amassed tens of millions of subscribers, reflecting the rapid growth fueled by their consistent gaming and challenge content, with Vikkstar123 featuring prominently in the majority of uploads.[24]

Content evolution and channels

Vikkstar123 initially focused his content on Minecraft gameplay series, such as the "How To Minecraft" episodes released in 2015, which featured collaborative survival and adventure playthroughs.[25] By mid-2015, he began diversifying into first-person shooter (FPS) games, uploading videos of Call of Duty: Black Ops II wager matches and gun game modes, as well as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive competitive sessions.[26] [27] This transition marked a broader exploration of competitive multiplayer titles, aligning with rising trends in FPS esports content. In 2018, he pivoted to battle royale games, prominently featuring Fortnite through tournament highlights like the $3,000,000 Pro-Am event and blindfolded challenges, which collectively amassed millions of views across his uploads.[28] To expand his reach, Vikkstar123 launched secondary channels alongside his primary YouTube account. The Vikkstar123HD channel, established in 2011, serves as a dedicated space for variety gaming content, including ongoing Minecraft series and FPS playthroughs.[29] In 2021, he introduced VikkstarShorts for quick clips and highlights, capitalizing on YouTube's Shorts format to engage audiences with bite-sized gaming moments.[30] These channels complement his main Vikkstar123 platform, which by November 2025 had reached 7.57 million subscribers, reflecting sustained growth through diversified uploads.[31] Beyond Sidemen group videos, Vikkstar123 has pursued collaborations with non-Sidemen creators to broaden his gaming challenges. A notable example is his participation in MrBeast's $1,000,000 challenge video released in July 2024, where he competed alongside other influencers in high-stakes tasks.[32] His content strategy has adapted to platform algorithms by emphasizing trending game modes and interactive formats. Starting live streams on Twitch in September 2017, he incorporated real-time audience engagement during FPS and battle royale sessions, later expanding to YouTube Live for broader accessibility.[33] In recent years, including 2024, he has revisited Minecraft and incorporated Roblox gameplay, aligning with nostalgic revivals and user-generated content trends to maintain viewer retention.[34] This approach prioritizes high-engagement series over exhaustive listings, fostering algorithmic favor through consistent uploads and cross-platform promotion.[35]

Music career

Sidemen collaborations

Vikkstar123 has been an integral part of the Sidemen's musical output, contributing lyrics, vocals, and production elements to group tracks since the group's early forays into music. His involvement began with the 2017 diss track "The End," a collective Sidemen response to Deji's "Sidemen Diss Track," where Vikk delivered key verses and handled video editing to bring the project to life.[36] This marked one of the group's first collaborative music efforts, showcasing Vikk's role in blending creative writing with post-production skills. Subsequent releases highlighted Vikk's growing production expertise, particularly after he established a home studio setup in 2017 to support his emerging DJ and music production interests. He frequently collaborated with fellow Sidemen member TBJzl on beats and mixing, as seen in tracks like the 2019 Christmas single "Merry Merry Christmas" ft. Jme and LayZ, where Vikk provided vocals and contributed to the overall sound design.[37] These holiday releases set the tone for the group's festive music tradition, with Vikk's input helping to craft catchy, group-performed hooks that resonated with fans. A standout example is the 2022 track "Christmas Drillings" ft. Jme, often referred to in a playful nod to its Santa-dissing lyrics, where Vikk co-wrote lyrics alongside KSI and TBJzl and performed vocals. The song peaked at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart, demonstrating the group's commercial potential.[38] By 2025, Sidemen music releases had amassed over 50 million streams across platforms, with many tied to charity initiatives supporting organizations like FareShare.[39] Vikk's consistent role in these projects underscores his evolution from video editor to a core creative force in the group's musical identity.

Solo and remix work

Vikkstar123 began his solo music endeavors in the mid-2010s by producing Minecraft-themed song parodies, drawing from popular tracks to create content tailored to his gaming audience. Notable examples include "Talking Zombies," a parody of Tove Lo's "Talking Body" released in 2015, and "My Mine," a 2016 take on Flo Rida's "My House," both featuring animations and collaborations with other Minecraft creators like the Minecraft Bros. These early releases, shared on his YouTube channel, amassed hundreds of thousands of views and helped establish his creative voice in music production within the gaming niche.[40][41] In December 2023, Vikkstar123 marked his entry into professional electronic dance music with the release of his debut solo single "Humans," featuring Maltese singer Shaun Farrugia and produced in collaboration with Goldfingers. The track, distributed by Funfair Records, explores themes of human connection and vulnerability through uplifting EDM melodies, and its official music video on YouTube has exceeded 1.2 million views. This release represented a shift from parody work to original compositions, leveraging his growing interest in DJing and production.[42][43] Expanding into remixing, Vikkstar123 delivered the official "Barcelona (Vikkstar Remix)" of Alan Walker and Ina Wroldsen's track in July 2024, infusing the original pop-EDM sound with heightened energy and bass drops suitable for festival sets. Uploaded to his YouTube channel, the remix quickly gained traction among EDM fans, reflecting his technical skills honed through self-taught production. "Humans" also received a remix by Ben Nicky in 2024.[44] Vikkstar123's later solo output includes the 2024 Monstercat single "Know Me Better" in collaboration with Masked Wolf and featuring Jme, blending hip-hop elements with electronic beats, as well as the 2025 releases "Chemical" featuring Adalaide Adams on Tomorrowland Music and "Lonely Together" with Sickick and featuring Aloe Blacc on Purple Fly Records. These tracks emphasize experimental electronic themes, often incorporating gaming-inspired motifs from his YouTube roots. Distributed through independent labels including Monstercat and Tomorrowland Music, his music has achieved significant streaming success, reaching over 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify as of November 2025.[45][46][47]

Business ventures

Sidemen enterprises

The Sidemen, a British YouTube collective that includes Vikkstar123 (Vikram Singh Barn), have diversified into several commercial ventures, with Barn playing an active role as a co-founder and promoter across these group-owned enterprises. One of the earliest initiatives was Sidemen Clothing, launched in 2014 as an official merchandise brand offering hoodies, t-shirts, and accessories inspired by the group's content and aesthetics. Barn contributed to the brand's creative direction, notably through collaborations like the 2021 "Mr. Vikkstar x Mr Men" collection, which featured custom graphics blending his persona with the iconic Mr. Men characters. By 2024, the company reported net assets exceeding £2.9 million, reflecting steady growth driven by online sales and pop-up stores in locations such as Bluewater and Birmingham.[21][48][49][50] In the beverage sector, the group introduced XIX Vodka in 2022, a premium spirit distilled five times from UK-sourced ingredients and positioned as a lifestyle brand for their adult audience. Barn supported the launch through branding and marketing, including his appearance as a Sidemen representative at the 2023 Esports Awards, where XIX served as the official sponsor, enhancing visibility in gaming and entertainment circles. The product expanded into major retailers like Tesco and Morrisons, achieving widespread UK distribution and extensions into ready-to-drink formats by 2023. In November 2025, XIX partnered with Red Star Brands to further expand distribution. This venture underscores the Sidemen's strategy of leveraging their collective influence—over 130 million subscribers—for product authenticity and fan engagement.[51][52][53][54][55] The food industry saw the debut of Sides, a Nashville-style fried chicken chain, in November 2021, initially as a delivery-only concept via platforms like Deliveroo and Uber Eats, with Barn promoting menu items through collaborative Sidemen videos that highlighted sauces and tenders. The brand transitioned to physical sites starting with Boxpark Wembley in early 2022, followed by openings in London (Dalston), Manchester (Arndale), and other UK spots like Merry Hill and Bluewater by late 2023. By mid-2024, Sides operated six brick-and-mortar locations, surpassing £1 million in weekly revenue and planning expansion to 20 sites, including an international outpost in Singapore, which opened in June 2025. Barn's involvement extended to on-site fan events and content tie-ins, aligning the chain with the group's high-energy, community-focused ethos.[56][57][58][59] In March 2024, the Sidemen launched Best Cereal, a breakfast cereal brand in collaboration with Mornflake, which sold 100,000 boxes in its first two weeks. In May 2025, they established Upside VC, a £25 million venture capital firm focused on investing in consumer tech startups.[60] Beyond consumer products, the Sidemen pursued media expansions, with Barn co-authoring Sidemen: The Book in 2016, a bestselling autobiography blending personal stories, challenges, and behind-the-scenes insights from the group's formation. Published by Coronet Books, it topped UK charts and supported a nationwide tour, cementing their transition from online creators to multimedia figures. In 2024, Barn featured prominently in the Netflix documentary The Sidemen Story, which chronicled the collective's decade-long evolution, including his arc from gaming enthusiast to business collaborator, emphasizing themes of friendship and innovation in digital culture. These projects highlight Barn's integral contributions to the Sidemen's joint narrative and commercial footprint.[61][62]

Personal investments

Vikkstar123 has diversified his financial portfolio through personal investments in esports, fintech, and fashion brands, demonstrating a strategic approach to entrepreneurial risk outside his collaborative Sidemen projects. In January 2021, Barn became a co-owner of the London Royal Ravens, a professional Call of Duty League team, with the aim of expanding the esports scene in the UK through investments and community initiatives.[63] In November 2021, he took a stake in VibePay, a UK-based fintech payments company, as a shareholder and partner to support its growth in digital transactions.[64] In July 2023, Barn invested in Notwoways, an East London-based sneaker brand, as part of a £2.3 million funding round to accelerate its expansion.[65] Barn purchased a personal residence in 2021.[66] These moves reflect a balanced risk profile, with synergies to Sidemen business interests in digital innovation.

Circulr launch

In 2023, British YouTuber Vikkstar123 (Vikram Singh Barn) joined as co-founder of the eyewear brand CIRCULR, helping to relaunch it with a focus on earth-conscious, fashion-forward designs aimed at all genders.[67][68] The brand emphasizes sustainable principles in its production, positioning style as a form of personal expression while prioritizing environmental awareness in eyewear creation.[68] The initial collection, launched on August 4, 2023, featured seven unique sunglass styles with impact-resistant, polarized lenses providing 100% UVA and UVB protection, priced at approximately £50 each and available exclusively through the online store at circulr.co.[67][69] Vikkstar promoted the drop via social media announcements and unboxing videos on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, highlighting the timeless designs inspired by global cities such as Osaka, Ibiza, and London.[70] CIRCULR's environmental mission centers on creating premium, durable eyewear to reduce waste through quality construction and a lifetime guarantee on products, encouraging longer use over disposable fashion.[68] By 2024, the brand expanded its lineup with limited-edition releases, maintaining its commitment to accessible, eco-minded accessories that align with Vikkstar's broader interest in sustainable ventures.

Personal life

Relationships

Vikram Barn, known as Vikkstar123, has maintained a relatively private personal life amid his rise to fame, with limited public details about his romantic history prior to 2020. Before gaining widespread prominence, he was in a relationship with Kayleigh Wordley from 2015 to 2017, which remained low-profile and out of the spotlight.[34][71] In late 2018, Barn began dating Ellie Harlow, keeping the relationship private initially to shield it from public scrutiny as his career accelerated. Harlow first appeared in his social media posts in 2020, marking a gradual shift toward openness. The couple announced their engagement in December 2021 via Instagram, with Barn proposing in front of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. They married in September 2023 in a ceremony blending Christian and Indian traditions, reflecting Barn's heritage.[9][72][71] As of 2025, Barn remains married to Harlow, emphasizing a balance between his professional commitments and close friendships within the Sidemen group. Harlow has occasionally supported Sidemen charity events, such as fundraisers, demonstrating ongoing collaboration in their shared social circle without delving into content creation.[9][72] Barn's relationships have subtly influenced his online presence, with Harlow's appearances in posts providing glimpses into his personal life and humanizing his public image, though he has avoided integrating romantic elements directly into gaming or Sidemen videos to preserve privacy.[71][72]

Philanthropy and interests

Vikkstar123 has actively participated in philanthropic efforts through the Sidemen's annual charity football matches, which began in 2016 and aim to raise funds for various British charities. As a core member of the Sidemen group, he has contributed to organizing and playing in these events, including scoring a goal during the 2022 match at The Valley stadium.[73] The 2025 edition of the Sidemen Charity Match, held at Wembley Stadium, marked a significant milestone by raising £4,733,004 for organizations such as BBC Children in Need, the Sidemen's Brightside charity, and M7 Education, with the event drawing a sold-out crowd of over 90,000 attendees.[74] This installment highlighted Vikkstar123's ongoing commitment to community support, as the series has collectively raised over £8.5 million as of 2025 to causes addressing youth education, health, and well-being.[75] In addition to group initiatives, Vikkstar123 has engaged with broader charitable causes, including support for mental health awareness, aligning with the Sidemen's discussions on the topic amid their content creation.[73] His involvement extends to events like the Jingle Jam charity stream, where creators including Vikkstar123 have raised funds for organizations focused on mental health and other social issues.[76] Beyond philanthropy, Vikkstar123 maintains personal interests in gaming and music production, reflecting his professional background while pursuing a balanced lifestyle in London.

Other charity efforts, such as Sidemen-affiliated tracks supporting humanitarian causes, further integrate his YouTube persona with audio production.[82][83] Behind the scenes, he holds production credits on more than 20 tracks, drawing from his early experimentation with digital audio workstations like FL Studio beginning in 2016, often emphasizing clean mixes and genre-blending arrangements. Additional releases include "Know Me Better" featuring JME in collaboration with Masked Wolf (2024), "Lonely Together" with Sickick and Aloe Blacc (2025), "All This Time" with Steve Aoki (2025), and "Another Way" with NoCopyrightSounds (2025).[45][84][85]
