Family and childhood
Ali Cobrin was born Alexandra Arley Cobrin on July 21, 1989, in Chicago, Illinois.[1] She comes from a family of Jewish descent on her father's side; her father, Marvin "Micky" Richard Cobrin (1951–2016), was Ashkenazi Jewish, and her mother, Peggy Jo (née Elmi), has Italian/Sicilian, English, and German ancestry.[4][5] Cobrin has one full brother, Micky B. Cobrin, a professional track and field athlete, as well as two half-sisters, Andrea Cobrin Long and Angela Cobrin Landis, from her mother's previous relationship.[5] Raised Jewish in Chicago, she grew up in a close-knit family environment that emphasized cultural and personal development.[4] From a young age, Cobrin showed a strong interest in the performing arts, particularly sparked by her intensive training in classical ballet during her childhood.[6] She also pursued athletics, competing in the Junior Olympics as a track and field athlete, reflecting the active and multifaceted pursuits encouraged in her household.[6] Her early years in Chicago provided exposure to the city's dynamic cultural landscape, including its renowned theater and arts institutions, which further fueled her passion for performance.[3] This foundation in ballet and the arts led her to formal training at the Chicago Academy for the Arts during high school.[6]Education and training
Cobrin attended the Chicago Academy for the Arts in Chicago, Illinois, where she majored in musical theatre during her high school years.[7] Building on her childhood training as a classical ballerina, she further developed her performing arts skills through this specialized program focused on artistic education.[6] She graduated from high school at the age of 17 in 2007.[6] Prior to graduation, Cobrin participated in the teen ensemble program at The Second City in Chicago, receiving early training in improvisation.[8] Shortly after graduating, she relocated to Los Angeles, California, to pursue a career in acting.[6]Career
Early performing arts work
Cobrin began her professional performing arts career in dance, training as a classical ballerina and joining the Burklyn Ballet Theater in Chicago. At the age of 13, she toured Scotland with the company and performed in a production of The Little Mermaid at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.[9][6] During this period, Cobrin also explored musical theater through workshops for Broadway productions, which built on her musical theater training from the Chicago Academy for the Arts.[6][10] After moving to Los Angeles at age 17, Cobrin transitioned to acting with her screen debut in the 2008 short film One. That same year, she appeared in another short, Jack Turner and the Reluctant Vampire, playing the role of Val; the project won two awards at the Los Angeles Accolade Competition.[6][11][3] By 2009, she secured her first feature film role as Tiffany in the horror thriller The Hole, marking her shift toward on-screen performances while drawing on her dance and theater background.[6][12]Breakthrough in film
Cobrin achieved her breakthrough in feature films with the role of Kara, a bold high school acquaintance of the protagonists, in the 2012 comedy American Reunion, a Universal Pictures sequel to the American Pie franchise directed by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg.[13] This marked her first major studio project, where she shared the screen with returning stars Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, and Alyson Hannigan, contributing to the film's nostalgic humor and box office performance of over $56 million domestically. Building on this momentum, Cobrin portrayed Whitney, a sorority girl entangled in neighborhood chaos, in the 2014 raunchy comedy Neighbors, directed by Nicholas Stoller and co-starring Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, and Zac Efron.[14] The film became a significant commercial hit, grossing more than $270 million worldwide against an $18 million budget, which notably elevated Cobrin's profile in mainstream Hollywood comedies.) In 2015, Cobrin demonstrated her genre versatility by starring as Kylie Atkins, a college student working in an online adult entertainment house, in the Canadian horror thriller Girl House, directed by Trevor Matthews.[15] Her lead performance in the slasher-style film, which involved intense home-invasion suspense, highlighted her range beyond comedy. Cobrin continued her mid-2010s film work with supporting roles in 2018 releases, including Lee Montgomery, a complex wife in the oil industry drama The Iron Orchard, directed by Ty Roberts and adapted from a novel about West Texas roughnecks.[16] That same year, she played Taryn, a sharp-witted friend, in the romantic comedy One Last Night, directed by Anthony Sabet, where a disastrous date turns into an overnight adventure in a locked movie theater.[17]Television roles and recent projects
Cobrin's television career began to take shape in 2010 with her recurring role as Molly in the Showtime anthology series Look: The Series, marking her first substantial part on the small screen across all 11 episodes of the single season.[18] In this role, she portrayed a young woman navigating personal and relational challenges in a voyeuristic narrative style, contributing to the show's exploration of everyday voyeurism.[19] Following guest appearances in series like Friends with Benefits in 2011, Cobrin took on a significant role in the faith-based family drama The Baxters. She first appeared as Kari Baxter in the 2018 pilot episode, which was produced but not immediately aired.[20] The project was revived and expanded into a full series on Prime Video in 2024, with Cobrin reprising and evolving the character as Kari Baxter Jacobs over 34 episodes across three seasons, depicting a devoted wife and mother facing marital and spiritual trials within a close-knit family dynamic.)[21] In the 2020s, Cobrin's television work has shifted toward family-oriented and romantic narratives, reflecting a maturation in her career choices. She starred as Callie in the 2020 Lifetime TV movie My Birthday Romance, a lighthearted story of a woman enlisting a pretend boyfriend for her milestone birthday, which aired to audiences seeking feel-good holiday-adjacent content.[22] Looking ahead, Cobrin is set to appear in the 2025 Great American Family TV movie The Christmas Spark, a holiday tale of redemption and community where she co-stars alongside Mario Lopez as a character aiding a former lawyer's transition to firefighting in a small town.[23] In 2024, she also starred in the dark comedy film Up in the Hills, directed by Jacob Steinberg and co-starring Dylan Walsh and Paris Berelc.[24] This progression underscores her affinity for uplifting, relational stories in streaming and television formats.Personal life
Marriage and family
Cobrin married actor Zak Resnick on October 7, 2018.[1][25] The couple has one child, a daughter named Rocky Tyler Resnick, born in 2023. As of November 2025, they are expecting a second child in February 2026.[1][26][27] Cobrin and Resnick reside in New York City.[26]Modeling and other pursuits
Cobrin is represented by NTA Model Management, a New York-based agency that highlights her as a model and actress residing in the city with her family.[28] Her modeling pursuits complement her professional life, focusing on opportunities within the New York fashion scene.[28] She is an advocate for animal rights and maintains an active lifestyle, incorporating yoga and Pilates into her routine.[3]Filmography
