Background and education

From a young age, Ormond displayed an interest in performance, enrolling in drama classes at Digges Lane drama school in Dublin at the age of four. He later attended Moyle Park College, a local secondary school in Clondalkin, where he was a classmate of future Olympic boxer Kenny Egan. Ormond left school at 16 to begin an apprenticeship as an electrician, a trade he pursued for several years in the late 1990s and early 2000s, working for Kirwan Electrical. During his time as an , Ormond developed a strong that he later credited with shaping his approach to his career in . His early opportunities arose from this prior exposure, leading to initial contracts around 2003–2004 that positioned him in youth-oriented programming. In 2005, Ormond secured his breakthrough as host of the companion series on , a behind-the-scenes show that aired alongside the main competition and allowed him to engage directly with contestants and audiences. Ormond's first solo presenting gig came with You're a Star Plus, which ran for several seasons and provided a platform to transition from performer to host without the intensity of the main live finals. In 2007, he stepped up to lead aspects of the primary You're a Star series, including live show segments, further solidifying his persona as an approachable and enthusiastic presenter. While specific audience metrics from these early gigs are limited, the programs contributed to RTÉ's successful youth and talent show lineup during this period. No major awards or nominations for emerging talent were recorded in these formative years, but the roles laid the groundwork for his subsequent prominence on the network.
