Key Information

Club career

[edit]

Slavia Prague

[edit]

Kuchta made his Czech First League debut for Slavia Prague on 8 November 2015 in a game against Bohemians.[2]

In January 2019, he joined Teplice on loan until June 2020.[3]

In February 2020, Kuchta signed for Slovan Liberec on a permanent deal, following a loan move at the club. In July 2020, Kuchta re-signed for Slavia Prague.[4] Kuchta finished the 2020–21 Czech First League as joint top scorer, alongside Adam Hložek with 15 goals.[5] In the final match of the season on 29 May 2021, Kuchta scored his side's winning goal against Dynamo České Budějovice which confirmed an undefeated league season for Slavia, the first time a Czech club reached this milestone since rivals Sparta Prague did so in 2009–10.[6]

Lokomotiv Moscow

[edit]

On 12 January 2022, Kuchta signed a contract with Russian Premier League club Lokomotiv Moscow until 2026.[7]

He made his league debut for Lokomotiv on 6 March 2022 against FC Khimki and scored the winning goal in a 3–2 victory. However, he never served a disqualification that he received for getting sent off in his last game for Slavia, and, according to FIFA regulations, was not eligible to play, FC Khimki filed a protest.[8] The protest was denied on 10 March 2022, according to Russian Football Union, Kuchta should have been disqualified for the Russian Cup game Lokomotiv played against Yenisey Krasnoyarsk on 3 March and lost 4–0, as Czech regulations extend disqualifications to Cup games, even though Russian regulations do not, so he was technically disqualified for "one league or Cup game" as opposed to "one league game". Lokomotiv did not provide the document detailing the disqualification to the league, the club claimed they did not receive it during the transfer, and he was allowed by the RFU to play in the Cup game. His disqualification is considered served after that game, even though he actually played in it, as per FIFA regulations. Khimki considered lodging an appeal.[9]

Sparta Prague

[edit]

In June 2022, Kuchta joined Sparta Prague on a one-year long loan with an option for a permanent transfer.[10] In his first match for Sparta Prague in the Czech First League (2–1 home loss against Slovan Liberec) he stepped on Liberec goalkeeper Olivier Vliegen's head and received a yellow card, which the referee changed to a red card after he saw video footage. Kuchta was banned for five league matches by LFA Disciplinary Commission.[11] The club with Kuchta appealed his ban,[12] but the appeal was rejected by Appeals Committee on 11 August 2022.[13]

Kuchta helped the club to win its first championship title since 2014.[14]

In June 2023, Sparta exercised the option to buy in the loan contract, signing a multi-year contract with Kuchta.[15]

In May 2024, Kuchta helped the club to win its second championship title in two seasons[16] and domestic cup.[17] He was awarded as the forward of the 2023–24 season by the League Football Association.[18]

Midtjylland

[edit]

On 31 August 2024, Kuchta signed a contract with Danish Superliga club Midtjylland until 2028.[19]

Sparta Prague (loan)

[edit]

Sparta Prague

[edit]

Kuchta's tenure at Slavia ended in January 2022 when he transferred to Lokomotiv for a reported fee of €5 million, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Lokomotiv Moscow (2022)

On 12 January 2022, Jan Kuchta joined Lokomotiv from Slavia Prague on a transfer that reflected his strong scoring form in the previous season, where he had been the top scorer with 15 goals. He signed a four-and-a-half-year contract running until June 2026. Kuchta made his debut for Lokomotiv on 6 March 2022 in a Russian Premier League match against FC Khimki, where he scored the winning goal in a 3–2 victory. Over the remainder of the season, he appeared in 10 league matches, netting 3 goals and providing 1 assist. In total across all competitions, he played 11 games, scoring 3 goals and recording 2 assists. Kuchta's time at Lokomotiv was curtailed by the 2022 , which led to widespread disruptions in the as permitted foreign players to suspend or terminate their contracts without penalty until 30 June 2022. This geopolitical crisis contributed to limited playing opportunities for international talents like Kuchta amid club uncertainties and player departures. He left the club on loan to Sparta Prague on 25 June 2022, with his Lokomotiv contract later terminated in 2023 to facilitate a permanent move. Kuchta won no honours during his brief spell at Lokomotiv.

Sparta Prague (2022–2024)

In June 2022, shortly after his transfer to Lokomotiv Moscow, Jan Kuchta joined Sparta Prague on a season-long loan from the Russian club, marking his return to Czech football with the rival of his former team Slavia Prague. During the 2022–23 season, Kuchta quickly adapted as a key forward, making 35 appearances across all competitions and scoring 16 goals, which helped Sparta secure a strong league position. His contributions included vital strikes that bolstered the team's attack amid the intense rivalry. The loan deal included an option to buy, which Sparta exercised in June 2023, signing Kuchta permanently for a reported €2.5 million. In the 2023–24 season, Kuchta solidified his role as Sparta's primary striker, featuring in 42 matches across all competitions and scoring 20 goals. Over his initial two-year spell at Sparta Prague from 2022 to 2024, Kuchta amassed 77 appearances and 36 goals across all competitions, establishing himself as a central figure in the team's offensive line and derby successes.

Midtjylland (2024–2025)

On 31 August 2024, Jan Kuchta transferred from Sparta Prague to in the for a reported fee of €2.7 million, signing a four-year contract until June 2028. The move was influenced by his prior success at Sparta, where he had established himself as a key forward, prompting interest from the ambitious Danish club seeking to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2024–25 season. During the first half of the 2024–25 season, Kuchta made 16 appearances across all competitions for Midtjylland, scoring 2 goals. In the Superliga, he featured in 9 matches, netting 1 goal while accumulating 549 minutes, primarily as a substitute. He also appeared in 2 games, scoring once, and 5 Europa League qualifiers without finding the net. His limited output reflected a subdued integration into the squad, with no assists recorded. Kuchta faced notable challenges adapting to Midtjylland's high-pressing 3-4-3 system, which emphasized physical intensity and quick transitions, differing from the more possession-oriented Czech league. He struggled to receive sufficient service as a central striker, often isolated in build-up play, and cited the demanding physical style of Danish football as a hurdle, particularly during European fixtures where Midtjylland competed in the Europa League group stage. These issues contributed to his limited impact, with observers noting he failed to meet expectations despite the club's investment. On 15 January 2025, after just over four months, Kuchta departed Midtjylland to rejoin Sparta Prague on a loan deal until the end of the season, with an option for a permanent transfer. The early exit underscored the unsuccessful stint, as he sought a return to familiar surroundings to regain form.

Sparta Prague (2025–present)

During this period, spanning the second half of the 2024–25 season, he made 20 appearances across all competitions and scored 8 goals, contributing to the team's domestic campaign. The loan arrangement proved successful, leading Sparta Prague to exercise the purchase option on 29 May 2025, securing Kuchta on a multi-year permanent contract as a centre-forward wearing jersey number 10. His prior experience with the club from 2022–2024 provided immediate familiarity with the squad and tactics. The permanent transfer was completed on 1 2025 for €2 million. As of November 2025, in the ongoing 2025–26 season, Kuchta has featured in 23 matches across all competitions and netted 7 goals (4 in league, 3 in Conference League qualifiers), bolstering Sparta's attack in both domestic and European fixtures.
