PsycINFO is a comprehensive bibliographic database produced by the American Psychological Association (APA) that provides abstracts and citations for scholarly literature in psychology and related behavioral and social sciences, covering content from the late 1800s to the present.[1] Launched in 1967 as an electronic successor to the print-based Psychological Abstracts (which began in 1927), it has become the most trusted index for psychological research worldwide, with over 5.6 million peer-reviewed records and more than 165 million cited references (as of 2024).[2]
The database indexes materials from 2,319 journals, books, book chapters, and dissertations (as of October 2025), spanning 30 languages and originating from 50 countries, including interdisciplinary areas such as medicine, education, sociology, and artificial intelligence.[3][1] It is updated twice weekly to ensure timely access to the latest research, and includes advanced features like AI-powered research assistance, content analytics, and APA Style citation generation to support researchers, students, and professionals.[1] With a focus on vetted, authoritative content, PsycINFO facilitates targeted discovery and fosters the exchange of peer-reviewed findings across the behavioral sciences.[1]
